i have an electric piano and a MacBook air, when i connect them with a midi to USB connector in order to play piano in to logic pro x, the sound still comes out the piano... what do i do??

I have a Roland GO:Piano digital piano connected to my Windows 10 PC. The keyboard is recognized by a variety of piano teaching software, so the connection is fine. I'd like a simple program that displays a Piano keyboard and highlights the keys I'm playing, in a window on the PC. I would then show that window on a ZOOM video conference for teaching purposes. I've found lots of advanced software for composing and authoring, but not for just displaying the keyboard.

Good Video and I’m glad that you had made this video because I’m a Beginner my small set up includes a MacBook Pro 💻, a 4Port Hub a M-Audio MK3 Key Station midi controller that has usb & 1 Midi output & yesterday I had got my Akai MPD218 midi controller that has a USB connection a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Generation audio interface a pair of Sony MDR-7506 headphones 🎧 a Rod pod mic & a pair of Silver Rokit KRK monitors. After looking at your video I’m going to end up ordering the Roland Um-one mk2 cords specifically to use with a external MIDI Sound Module like The Roland JV-1080 which has the MIDI in & Midi out connection which I will end up buying off of EBay or Guitar 🎸 Center. My question to you is how do I connect my USB midi controller that has a MIDI out with my Akai MPD218 USB Pad midi Controller ? My guess is to connect both to my 4port hub that is connected to my MacBook Pro 💻 Mid 2012 that’s my guess but I need to know how I can get the sounds loaded into my keyboard 🎹 controller & my Akai MPD218 USB midi Pad controller? Cause I’m thinking about starting out with Ableton live lite since it comes free with both of my midi controllers & not only that I don’t want to use Akai’s MPC Beats Software that comes with their controller simply because Ableton is the better & easier program to learn do you agree? Hi, latency will depend on a number of factors, but mostly on the kind of audio interface you are using and the way you set the buffer size etc. I have a number of ways of making MIDI connections, the one which seems to offer the best low latency is when I use MIDI cables connected to the MIDI i/o in my focusrite interface.

So here my question (sorry if it sounds stupid): If I connect my synths to a controler (Roland Fantom), it should be enough for me to connect the MIDI/USB from the controler into the interface and from the interface to the computer (using the DAW as a mixer) and then the audio from all keyboards into the interface to the speakers? I just bought my Fantom and next step is the DAW (most likely Logic). I have never used an interface and I'm afraid my old school ways of doing things (way back in the 80s and 90s) is not how things are done today. So I am a little bit confused.

I'm trying to connect my Roland FP-30 to my MacBook Pro via Bluetooth. I haven't had all that much success yet - is this because there is no MIDI out on this model of keyboard? Sibelius is recognising it as an input device but no information is being sent. Your videos are fab!

My question is, I will be connecting with the Voker from the usb port of a Yamaha Genos directly to the Ipad Mini 2, but you often make reference to the Ipad needing it's own power source, but how can I do this if the Voker plugs directly into the only port that I also use for recharging, or can I assume that power is being supplied from the MIDI keyboard to the Ipad if connected in this way? Can you also please tell me if this would also work with FL Studio? Many thanks in advance

Thanks for this. I have 15 ipads in school and need to connect them to midi keyboards. If I wanted to record vocals and guitar into garageband as well as keyboard, would the audio interface be the best option or only option? I tried recording on the keyboard, but as mentioned in the manual 1. connect Go Keys via mini usb port to my mac 2. copy the files in the Backup folder But when I open the midi file, mac opens the GarageBand app and the piano sound turns into organ sound ... I used Piano+Pad to play in the keyboard. If I replay it from the keyboard, it sounds fine. how do I get the file that produces the one I hear from the keyboard?

Would you consider making a video on how to set up Bluetooth keyboard for recording in logic? I have the Roland Go piano (with Alexa). I want to record the piano, but I keep hooking the piano up as a speaker instead of an input. I don't see that option so I'm not sure if it isn't capable, or if I'm making a mistake somehow :/ LOVE YOUR CHANNEL BTW! :)

Hi, Thanks. I also have a Go Piano, you cannot record the sound of it using the Bluetooth, only make a MIDI connection, or as you have discovered, you can playback computer audio via the piano speakers. The only way to record the sound is via a cable.

I appreciate your posting this, but: (1.) It contains so much device-specific info, it would've been helpful if you'd listed your video's specific topics and times in your description, so we wouldn't need to weed through all the details irrelevant to us. (2.) At 5:02, you explain how "easy" it is to connect your keyboard via its "Computer USB" port, and show yourself doing so and not needing to make any further settings. I've tried this with my (pretty new!) Roland FP-30 digital piano, and an up-to-date Windows 10 laptop, and nothing happens. Nothing. Why wouldn't this be as "easy" as you describe? What am I not doing?

Thanks so much for the explanation. I recently bought this iRig Pro Duo I/O. However, I have a keyboard that only have MIDI in and out port. And, The Duo I/O package came with several adapters. However, I could not find the right one to connect. I just want to confirm it’s the 5 pin male - 5 pin male cable that I need to connect the keyboard to Duo I/O. Or I need something else. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Thanks for your videos. I'm still struggling however. All I want to do is combine a backing track from an online piano teacher (MP3 online file) and the audio from my piano (with MIDI output) and play it through headphones so I don't disturb the house. Mixer? Audio Interface? It seems like it should be simple but I can't figure it out. Can you recommend one of your videos?

Mixing issue. YOu're talking about two different sound sources and want to hear them together so you need a way to blend them. You can do it with a small desktop hardware like she shows above with the Focusrite or you could do it in software.

Thank you for your very useful video. I wonder if you could explain something to me. I have an old Yamaha PF15 which I like to use with a separate sound module (Roland Sound Canvas) for better sound options. What I haven't been successful to do so far is to connect the two devices to my computer so while I use the keyboard as the controller, I use the module as the sound source. How shall I connect the devices to input music into a DAW from the keyboard and be able to use the sounds from the external module? Many thanks.

I have a Yamaha PSR-E443, Akai MPD26 DrumPad that has a Midi in and Out inputs & USB 2 0 & MacBook Pro Mid 2012, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Second Generation audio interface & a USB Turntable and I am thinking about getting a Round JV-1080 Sound module which has the 5 pin Midi in & Midi outputs & a pair of KRK Classic Rokit 5 G3 Monitors. My issue is that I'm thinking about buying the $200 M-Audio Keystation 61- Key Controller, because I heard that a lot of Yamaha PSR- Electronic keyboards don't recognize and support a lot of DAW'S like PreSonus studio One, MPC BEATS, Logic Pro. So for my set up do you think that it would be better to buy the M-Audio Keystation 61 Controller?

Hi, i managed to connect my Kawai digital piano to ipad using the usb port/midi (I have tried both) I am using it for piano app. My problem is in using headset. If I plug it to the keyboard, I only hear the keyboard and not the ipad. If I plug it to the ipad, I hear the ipad app but not the original sound of the keyboard. The app uses it’s own “midi sound” which is very awful. So basically, I cannot hear the keyboard sound. Can you help me please 😀

There are a lot of videos showing you how to connect iPad to midi keyboards but then how do you get audio out without a headphone jack or audio interface. There is no Apple dongle with usb and audio out.

You will need an interface. There are many designed specially for iPad, but also you can use a standard one with a camera connection kit.

Hi - I've bought a modern budget Chinese keyboard that is a breeze to setup with my TCL 10 5G because both are using bluetooth 5.0 to connect to android piano apps like pop piano that I've installed on my phone.. Given my age, I need a bigger screen than my phone to see properly using my one good eye and +5 reading glasses. I have an old laptop running elementary OS (linux) that I'd like to use with a bluetooth 5 dongle I've bought to connect to the piano but Adour is just too complicated for me to figure out. The laptop has an intel sound card and bluetooth works OK via attached dongles- a bluetooth computer keyboard & mouse as well as bluetooth audio speakers. The bluetooth 5.0 dongle (with tx and fx) seems to connect to the piano keyboard but I can't hear any sound. Any suggestions on how I might be able to get the soundcard to play notes I press on the piano?

Hello! I have an Akai Pro MPC key 61 and I’m trying to route the midi cord from my keyboard through my interface (Focusrite 4i4). I can’t get any sound to come from the keyboard however. Do I need 2 midi cables-one each for the IN and OUT port to run from my keyboard to the interface, or just the 1 going from the keyboard OUT to the interface IN? Hope I’m not confusing you. Hi, it depends what you want to do! And how easy or difficult you want it to be. For a beginner, then Mixcraft is very good. Or Band In a Box. More advanced, try Reaper (inexpensive).

Hi, I have a Yamaha P115 and a brand new Mac. I connected with USB and downloaded a steinberg yamaha driver, but my computer does not seem to recognize the keyboard. Any advice?

Hi, I have watched some of your videos and still can't get my set up to work. I have a Casio MK 270, the usb cable that fits it and a lenovo laptop. I have downloaded Audacity. Audacity doesn't show that there is anything connected. I am not savvy in music or anything else really, I just wanted to have fun. Can you help?

That's because Audacity is unable to record or write MIDI, connect to a MIDI keyboard, edit MIDI files, or use as a control surface. So get rid of it if your intent is to use a keyboard mainly to make music. Now Cakewalk by BandLab is also free and it will let you use your MIDI keyboard to your laptop. However Cakewalk isn't as user friendly for beginners like Audacity, but if you take a little time and effort watching a few tutorials on it. You'll be ahead of the game if this is something that really starts to interest you by learning on a real DAW. TIP: If you do decide to download Cakewalk and want to protect and not share the music you've made. Make sure to not check "forking" if you upload a song, otherwise it's a free for all to take, add on to, or change in any way. Good Luck! +++Peace & Rock n' Roll+++

Do you know how to connect to an ipad through a macbook? USB keyboard to macbook, mac type c to lightning. The mac recognizes the midi keyboard, but the ipad doesn't. Trying to figure out MIDI studio software on the mac, but I obviously don't know how it works very well. Help appreciated!

wanna know what kind of app or music scoring app that are suggested?(the Free ones) and wanna use Roland a-49, but not really know how to use it properly ........

Musescore is a great music scoring app - there is a free version, and also you can pay a few £ a year for pro version. If you have a Mac, Garageband is amazing for free

I’m having trouble with my m-audio keyboard connecting to MainStage . I’m using an audio box interface. The only difference I see between your setup and mine is I only have one midi out port on my keyboard. not sure if that’s the issue or not, but my korg nano control is communicating fine, neither the keyboard or pedal are communicating. Any thoughts?

Hi, thanks for the video! I have my Go:piano paired to windows 10, but now I'm sort of stuck. I don't know how to record the audio or midi. So my question is; do I need a specific software that can detect the go:piano or am I able to use the keyboard as an audio source or midi controller from a software like Audacity? Thanks!!

I had a question about latency between MIDI and your computer. I have a M-audio Ozonic, and bought an M-Audio Midisport Uno form my 2017 Imac. On Garageband it will read the keys, but not in quick secession. I have to wait a half a second before playing the next key. Any ideas?

Thank you very much for your videos ! Question: I want to use iPad (5th gen.) with my Yamaha P-140 digital piano keyboard to give high quality sound for Zoom ballet classes, and also for Jamkazam small group rehearsals. Jamkazam and Jacktrip and others recommend using Ethernet rather than wifi to avoid jitter I believe. I have a Steinberg UR22mkii audio interface which can do audio or MIDI, and the Apple lightning to USB3 camera adapter, and an Anker 4-port USB 3 data hub. On my first attempt, I tried to record in Zoom using audio out from the keyboard to the audio interface, and using the hub to plug the ethernet cable and also USB to USB from the audio interface into the hub, then plugging the hub into the camera adapter. But I was not able to record sound from the keyboard in the Zoom meeting this way. Any suggestions on what I can try next would be so much appreciated !
