This livery is the best there ever was for the 222. I remember my jaw dropping when these started rolling into Bedford. You had free tea and coffee when boarding too. Miss the old MML.
@@gapa1982 I remember when I was a 16/17 and worked at NEXT at mradoehall I'd finish at just after 8 and run like crazy to get to the platform in time for the turbostar midland Mainline or meridian to Barnsley. Alwsys got my free brew and paper lol. Memories.
The Class 222 is part of the Bombardier Voyager family. Meridian is just a branding name by the TOC, it is still a Voyager! The only difference is that unlike the other voyagers, the 222 has a revised cab shape, apparently because Virgin patented the design iirc but who knows. Personally I like both of them but I prefer the voyagers cab. The 222 has had superior liveries in its time though.
Under the skin they are the same. One main difference is that, unlike Virgin Trains, the MML TOC didn't specify any of their fleet to tilt. This freed up underfloor space for the bog tanks, which on Voyagers had to go at floor level because of their tilting equipment and explains why Meridians don't suffer that rancid sewage farm smell whenever the tanks are more than about half full and outside temperature is over about 10C.... Yuk!
Drivers get by far the quietest ride on all class 22X trains. Such a shame that their excellent acceleration had to come with such poor sound insulation and engine mountings. All sets have had some form of mid-life refurb, but it seems the budget never stretched to sorting out these issues. The 800 series bi-modes are awful trains for other reasons, but at least when on diesel the saloons are fairly quiet and free of rattles/squeaks.
@@thebigtrainguy Each to his own, but I'm in the majority who dislike the 800/802's hard seats, harsh lighting and rough ride at 110-125mph. They might be okay as outer-suburban units, but for long-distance InterCity journeys they certainly are not.
Does anyone know what the music is that is used in this video? Or atleast a longer source audio without overlapping audio (talking). Ideally a high-quality source if possible.
