I've lived in West Texas for years (Monahans) You never forget these moments. In fact Monahans was hit by two tornadoes in one day. I was in Fifth, my brother was in fourth and my sister was in kindergarten, this was in the 70's. Mom and dad were in Lubbock at the time: they'd just sat down to eat lunch when a waitress asked if they had heard about the tornadoes that wiped out Monahans. All of us kids were in school at the time. Mom fainted, dad almost too and so began a long journey from Lubbock to Monahans. They fought tornadoes all the way home. National Guard had been called out and dad almost had to run them down to get into Monahans. He told them he had three kids there and nothing was going to stop him. LOL, it's quite humorous now, but you never forget the power and the awe of such moments. Your video is stunning.

could not imagine chasing in midland and surrounding area. worked out there for 7 years, hated every second. too many heavy equipment haulers, insane drivers, 2 lane highways with traffic stringing along for miles and miles and insta flood roads everywhere. seen too many presumably fatal accidents. thanks for getting this KILLER vid. wild stuff man, yall be careful out there. some of the most dangerous highways for a reason.

Wish you two could have gotten the Kosse TX tornado May 22, 2024. I was 4 miles away and the winds were so strong it almost blew my roof off my house. I ran to my shop and got video of the powerful wind as it passed. Intense

The double tornadoes were a few miles down the road…….I’ve been in this area for 20 years and never had a tornado that close. In the panhandle and east Texas, I almost expect them, being through over 50 up close and personal. This was definitely rare. Just glad the tornadoes hit where they did and didn’t do the damage they could have done. I’m glad I left work 20 minutes early when I started seeing the clouds build up to get home…..knew something bad was coming.

Always feel sorry for any farm animals that are outside in caught between fences and can't get away. Lots of sheep farms out there too, in texas. The wool capital.
@amel2784
@amel2784 3 месяца назад
In this case there was the greatest percentage against there being any livestock out in that area. There is very little livestock in the Odessa and Midland region, although there are some. Sheep are not big in this area. Sheep are seen in other areas where there's something to graze. Around here what we have is dirt and brush and cactus and not much else.
@TakeTheRide
@TakeTheRide 3 месяца назад
@@amel2784 I grew up in San Angelo. People still raise their own farm animals for food. Dogs and cats are often outside too. But yeah I know what you mean. Texas used to be grasslands before the mesquite bean was brought up from South America, with the transport of cattle. Wells are going dry.
@amel2784
@amel2784 3 месяца назад
@@TakeTheRide Right. I mentioned the odds of there being livestock right where the tornado stood was greater against than for. I've driven thru San Angelo a few times. It surprises me how much more vegetation there is in SA than Midland/ Odessa area. It's prettier there. I've seen several pictures of the Midland area in the 1800s just before and during their early days of the cattle ranches and drives. It was barren and sandy even before the cattle industry started. Midland/Odessa and westward, towards Pecos and beyond, is part of the Llano Estacado. It was really bad lands far before the cows were brought in. It was deadly terrain and life was only sustained by the flowing rivers of the Pecos River. Before irrigation and other changes stopped the Pecos River from its natural flow it was at one time a very wide but shallow river. It's interesting to read about the very first cattle drive by Charles Goodnight and his description of the land out here. He saw only one live wild animal, a wolf that he said must have lost its way, during the entire drive thru this area. The only reason the cattle made it was the existence of the river.

Qu: Do the truck drivers get notified via their CB radio's when there's a tornado warning, etc?? I'm constantly seeing trucks & cars driving into the storm. It's crazy!! Ps. I'm from Australia, so I'm not 100% sure what systems are in plc😊
@nozrep
@nozrep 3 месяца назад
for sure the truckers trade information on CBs. But also nowadays, everybody has an app on their phone for weather alerts. So, nowadays, it’s both things. Because certainly, there are still “dead spots” on the roads where there is no cell phone tower transmitting cell phone connectivity. So yes you are right and then also it’s both. My uncle’s a trucker. Also, some areas of rural Texas and far west Texas still do not have any cell phone service, aka the dead zones, or “pockets” as they are also called. So yah in those dead zone pockets, truckers especially, not so much a regular driver, but truckers definitely still have their back up cb radio which can operate off of traditional radiowave signals and doesn’t need cell phone tower or satellite signal for it to work.
@nozrep
@nozrep 3 месяца назад
just like I am pretty sure that there are probably large swathes of the Australian outback where a trucker down under (😄rhymes) wouldn’t have any cell phone signal so would definitely need a CB radio.

 please don’t argue about this, much of Texas and almost all of Oklahoma are both in tornado alley and some years one gets more than the other and some years vice versa. That’s the main fact. Ok ok I don’t mind talkin’ a bit of trash to my Oklahoma friends especially for college football. Aye, but I always like Oklahoma folks that I met. We are both in tornado ally and I wanna support my fellow tornado people! Even Houston just got tornadoes 2 weeks ago. Now that one IS more rare because Houston is not in tornado alley.

That storm over Gardendale did some serious damage to our houses and our vehicles. It was the largest hail I’ve ever seen, I usually am able to get my vehicle under an awning or into the shop. There wasn’t much warning cause it built up so fast. I learned that no matter how bad you want to look outside at the hail, don’t do it. I’ve never seen hail come through the windows in a house until that day.

Wanted to be a storm chasing meteorologist ~ and also be a certified paramedic in order to help when necessary. Please don’t take this the wrong way ~ I believe that all chasers should be at least an EMT preferably a Paramedic. That so you can access and take emergency measures. dirt devils or dust devils are different category than a proper tornado. this one here was an actual tornado. dust devils are wind vortexes that happen on really hot, completely blue bird clear sky days, while tornadoes are always caused by thunderstorm cells and activity. But yes, it is true that they are both types of rotating wind vortexes.

I have family in that area. Thankfully, they are OK. My grandparents had a farm, and I remember those cotton fields. This has been a terrible spring😮. Be safe out there.

5:52; k, that definitely DOES NOT make sense. China Grove is southeast of San Antonio but you guys cited driving down 385 from Seminole and then your other labels cited west of Midkiff south of Midland AFTER you cited China Grove. THAT’S NOT POSSIBLE because your time stamps within only a couple hours of each other AND China Grove is AT LEAST a 4 to 5 hour drive from your other time stamps and location labels. So, what gives?!?! It’s not possible at all UNLESS you guys combined filmings of storms from 2 separate days. I think you guys had the location 100 percent wrong when the China Grove label was flashed on screen unless there’s more than one China Grove in Texas which I do not believe that there is. So, where was that? Crane maybe? Crane’s not too far from Midkiff.

Must be an unofficially defunct "China Grove" southwest of Midland, because it appears on radar, which uses government legally recognized locations and entities. Could be some ghost town from the 1800s still on the books.

No, they didn't. Two VERY distinct voices: one, a tenor, the other a flat-out bass.

Can someone explain why there is no PUBLIC network of radiological stations in the USA when there is one in Canada? Is this for the convenience of ground testing of plutonium weather drones, or do they simply not want to worry the experimental population? It is necessary to measure gamma AT THE BEGINNING of the supercell formation process - while the drones are ACTIVE. This is the first half hour.

Radar can indicate tornados once the debris gets thrown up, but spotters can actually see them on the ground as they form, can give 10 minutes early warning.
