Very sad, Bones Hillman, bassist par excellence, with the great voice and personality has died at only 62, from cancer. He looks so well in this show, only a year ago. RIP big Bonsey.
Midnight oil? Paris? 2019? Wha?? I did not know Peter Garrett and co were still touring! Still as good as they were 30 years ago. These guys come from a golden era of Australian rock music. So many in the "pub rock" genre that many get forgotten. Good music and bands will forever live on.
41 years ago I saw Midnight Oil at The Royal Antler Narrabeen. I have to thank the boys from The Strand house at Dee Why for taking me to the gig. It was late 1979, a warm night, people pouring jugs of iced water on each other and Peter Garrett's head, steam coming from the Lead Singer's bald cranium. Their music and especially their lyrics have made THE OILS one of the most important Rock bands in history. This new song ' Gadigal Land' is an instant Oils Classic. Words cannot describe how much I love this track. Sydney Radio station MMM played it every hour yesterday, so credit to them for that. Before they played it the first time I was thinking " oh, I hope it's good " I loved it from the opening chords, the thumping Drums, the throbbing Bass and Garrett's vocals delivering every word that is punching the Colonial invaders in the face. Well done boys, this is excellent!
I am 65 and love this song. It is pure energy and awsome singing. I did three kicks in the air at my age. Out of the chair and rocking. Luv and best wishes.RIP. A great person and performer. Involved his fans in shows and everything to bring it to life. Thank You So Much.
Peter Garrett soprattutto! Bravissimi!!!
I got way turned onto The Oils in the mid-1980s and a reason I moved to New Zealand and travelled all over outback Australia shortly after. The downunder music scene was very vibrant then. Sorry to hear of Bonsey's passing too soon.
Saw them in the late 80's on their "Blue Sky Mining" tour and they were fantastic! Me and my best bud Jimbo had a fantastic time. Sadly he passed from a heart attack 10 years ago. Thank goodness I still have the memories of that night!!!
I saw them in the very early '80s before the stadiums. the sweat sprayed across the audience. Peter was a live wire then. Still doing well today. Bones - RIP
the song was a worldwide hit. It has been praised and covered endlessly. What could be remotely underrated about it? Do you know it's possible to enjoy a video without having to make a comment for the sake of it?
R.I.P. Wayne Stevens (Born In May 1958), Known By The Stage Name Bones Hillman Has Died Today (7 November 2020) At The Age Of 62 After His Battle With Cancer Came To A Tragic End. :(
Had no idea Peter Garrett left politics and worked with everyone in Midnight Oil again, thanks for sharing this and making me aware. Just learned that they did one new song called "Gadigal Land"
Parliaments the world over need this sort of elected representative. Driven by passion, historically aware, and no damn fool. I'd vote for him anytime!.
@@philipkraemer5767 Yes... it is not there any longer, but we both must have been there at the same time. Tracy Chapman fronted that night. 10,000 Maniacs were also playing there around that time...
@@philipkraemer5767 I saw them at the same time, perhaps a day before or after. I went to a record shop that was big at the time and got both Midnight Oil and 10,000 maniacs albums signed... also remember catching Neil Finn when he went solo that year. All fantastic shows. I am from Appleton and live now in Halden, Norway most of the year. 😎
