I miss my GTR very much! I used to own R32 GTR around 1990 to 1996 in Japan. I raced with Mr Yoshida once at 第三京浜. His Porsche was so fast! When I moved to the U.S.A, I wanted to bring mine but dmv required proof of crash tests for 3 GTRs. So I gave up. I am glad now many people talks about GTR in the world! I put some pictures in my channel.
Very cool that you got to race Yoshida's 930! That story is a piece of racing history. Unfortunately, the R32s-R34s were illegal to purchase and import to America until the vehicles became at least 25 years old (2014 for this generation at the earliest) for the exact reasons you mentioned. A couple of companies tried before that, and it just resulted in several being crushed by the Feds. The first GTR legal to buy new here was the standalone model.
The Skyline series of cars are just masterpieces. For some reason I don’t feel the same for the R35 even though its an amazing machine. But the R32, R33 and iconic R34 are just JDM legends that will never die.
