Since posting this I have learned that Night Race is an alternate title for Midnight Racing Extended Edition. I've also learned of one other variant of this game called Thornton's All Night Racing, and that Hot Wired was also sold as Midnight Road Warriors.
Very nice video. I didn't know MR had a version that was the handicapped Hot Pursuit mode of NFS3. But I noticed that you made a mistake as Long Night (10 levels) is just a standalone expansion pack for Midnight Racing (30 levels).
This game came with Nestle Nescau Cereal some years ago. It was 3 games who came: Midnight Racing, Monster Trux Extreme Offroad and GP vs Superbike. I had those games, it was part of my childhood in 2011. (By the way: Monster Trux is very good)
the wangan midnight maximum tune series in general is definitely not budget, they're really well made, if only i could play them again at the arcades...
This game is also known as Midnight Road Warriors and as Thornton's All Night Racing. Midnight Road Warriors is the same as Hot Wired I think and in Thornton's All Night Racing the only new thing they've added into the game is a cutscene showing off a Thornton's gas station and cafe.
Great video! I ironically enjoy this game for its atmosphere and sense of speed. Despite spending many hours with Midnight Racing (and its clones) in order to make my review, I still learned a few things from this video! I had no idea Night Race and its 30 tracks existed. I honestly want to give it a try, haha. The history of this game is oddly fascinating and you did a great job covering it. Cheers!
In Australia you could buy this in a 3 game collection called "Racing Trilogy Volume 1". The names of the games were slightly different as well. They were called Midnight Street Racing, Speed Thief and there was another game called Highway Racing
When i was a kid i played a game which i dont remember the name so it started with a cutscene a 2 door car with smoke coming out of hood like its wreaked and u had to do races and stuff its a free roam also and some cops which chase u if u go fast i think u could also buy cars if anyone knows it i would be happy to know
I still have the disc and the box for this game and I played it again after many years after watching this video. Yes I know why I was pissed off at my uncle for getting me this game but that menu background music is almost orgasm inducing I wish I could rip it so I could just listen to it but I don't know how to. BTW It just boots up on windows 10.
Im looking for old racing game with blue/grey men, most maps were some normal cities and mountines looking like switzerland but there was one map with big junkyard with plane that you could drive through, i dont remember the name but as a kid ive played the demo a lot
Omg, FINALLY someone knows this game, I searched the entire internet about the game theme or anything about it, and I couldn't find, I'm so happy that in this day and age you made this video about this game, I played it back in the early 2005, that main theme was stuck with me forever as one of the most nostalgic things I've ever heard.
I got this game from a cereal box, ripped it straight from the CD and I have them on a google drive for whenever I want to laugh at the stupid car wrecks. Other games that used to come in the exact brand of cereal you showed are: Woody Woodpecker, Buggy, Actua Soccer 3, Pink Panther and many more.

"Угнать за 40 секунд" means "to steal (a car) in 40 seconds", not just "40 seconds". It's the Russian title of Gone in 60 Seconds but the number is changed. Like, you guys need whole minute? Amateurs. It was a common practice here to slap a budget title with a name suggesting it's related to some big movie, even among official releases like in this case. Seen this jevel box you showed in a store as a kid but since I only had PS1 I could only dream about how cool this game was.
There was also a polish version (the publisher is mentioned in the video) of this game - Polskie Derby (literally "polish derby"), as with all other titles, the only difference were the cars which have been replaced by polish clunkers from the 50's.
Obscure racing games are the best! I've been playing Burning Road for PS1 which is basically a clone of Daytona USA. The devs seemed to really strive towards getting the look & feel of the original down and I'd say their efforts ended up in it actually being a superior product to what Saturn owners got from Sega. Have also been looking for a copy of a Japan-only Wii version of the "Art Truck Series" big-rig racing games. It apparently features some technically impressive graphical effects not seen on any other Wii title along with an equally unique soundtrack. Got this as a budget Title bundlet with "Rollcage" by Psygnosis and "Autobahn Total Racing". Wondering why their bundled this with Rollcage what was kind of a Triple A Title back in the day.
Does anyone remember this seemingly obscure 3D racing game, in which if memory serves me well, had you driving against your opponent on a straight highway road at night? I played it way back during my childhood, and unfortunately I forgot the title! What I remember from it is that there was some rock guitar riff when the game started as it showed some developer logos rendered as 3D models. I think it was like a trial or something, since after I reach the finish line, the game closes. If anyone knows what game I’m actually referring to, I’d love to know!
This game was my childhood. My uncle had it on his PC and I used to spend hours on it whenever I visited them. They best part of was when the opponent/s reset their cars at the same place as yours and both cars merged together like conjoined, the cars and the camera used to go crazy and I used the laugh my a** out at it showing it to my uncle. It was so funny whenever that happened XD

The UK version sounded a lot more pleasant on the ears. "Now, listen: I've some clients overseas who are interested in this specific vehicle. If you can get the car down to the docks, I'll pay you cash in-hand for your troubles." (Funny how, after all these years, you remember the weirdest things...) Glad you talked about the music for Midnight Racing - to this day, I'd love to find (and download) the ripped-audio from the menu as well as the in-game music. Shame you didn't also mention the music in Hot Wired - nostalgia city.
I have Midnight Road Warriors, I love to crash into cars and box trucks. It comes with like Beach King, US racer (police chase), Kar Racing and Midnight Road Warriors. And also I got Midnight Racing (the 80s looking thing) this is from the cereal box back in 2009.
Ah yeah the good old racing games published by Davilex. Had a lot of fun with A2 Racer 2 on PC back in the day. Also still remember playing Beach King and Knight Rider at my cousins house. Car Racing Challenge which was published by 505 Games in Europe was also enjoyable to play.
I remember my version of Midnight Racing CD I got was a picture of a subaru jumping off and it says Midnight Racing with the font similarly to the one on the bottom right at 13:56
Lol in the budget racing games there's wangan midnight maximum tune 3dx (or Just maxi tune for Short), that game is based directly off the wangan midnight anime/manga (mostly manga) wich in itself is based off the real mid night club

I mighta just say it, cuz i dunno if there are peeps that know that one x3 Where i am from we had a very same game like this, but it was about our classics - it was called "Polskie Derby". In it you could choose 5 cars, and by 5 i mean Warsaw, Trabant and one of 3 variants of Syrena. there's uhh- probably 30 or 50 tracks and you're racing against only one oponent which is driving with Warsaw. I had fun with that game thx to damage model, but ehhh, i don't think it made such popularity in my country xD
Ah midnight racing whenever my mother goes out for shopping and said to my sisters to let me play so i don't waddle around . Crashing the car, and beating time was my favorite and since in India gaming was obscure and we didn't had any gaming console this felt magical. Mortal kombat,virtua cop and this was our trifecta, we were great in our individual games my eldest sister was great in mortal kombat (specially mk3) and my middle sister was great in virtua cop, and there i was beating every challenge in midnight racing. Also i played this on a keyboard

It was like 11 years ago, I remember that my mom has buying some cereals with 3 different cd game in, and I founded Midnight Racing hahhahah, I also didn't know very well English but I played it enyway. I remember the strange atmosphere of a cheap an old game, made with the ass because it was very hard to finish a race, and you couldn't see to much in front of the car, so some vehicles was spowning randomaticaly and than instantly lose. Than after a year I lost that cd, now I'm kinda sad because it was interesting and fun to have that old and hidden game in my collection.
I can confirm i've got this game in a cereal box (Nescau Cereal) here in Brazil. It was given in a tiny CD with no labels. I played this a lot as a kid, and i'm glad i've found this video!
