That shake of his head had me ON THE FLOOR when I saw this in the theater. I was disappointed that this movie didn't do better than it did as it was hilarious, entertaining to the max and also - rare for this type of movie - has a surprising amount of heart too. One of my favorite movies from the eighties, and that's saying a lot because there were a LOT of awesome movies in that decade!
@@eltravo2112 100% agree. I watch it several times a year. It was really DeNiro's first foray into comedy and I think he killed it. Script-writing is just brilliant. Grodin is amazing throughout as well.
I always laughed at the head shake from DeNiro to Grodin after he says he's going to shoot him and dump him in the swamp. Just to set his mind at ease.
Great scene. I also love when Eddie loses it later on in the movie on the phone ""He's telling me to go fuck myself! You're telling me to go fuck myself! Everyone is telling me to go fuck myself!" lol
Good catch! Or how bout when his assistant Jerry is about to light a cigarette then smacks down his lighter and cig when DeNiro calls, but then when he tells Joey whos on the line he's got a lit cig in his hand that looks like its been burning a while just a split second later.

Joey Pants is one of the nicest guys in Hollywood (or well, when he's in Hollywood which is hardly ever anymore ; good for him). I've met him, I wrote him a letter and he gave me a call, told me to call him any time. He started a non-profit to help people with mental illness. He's active on his Instagram talking to his followers like friends, such a great human being. And obviously an incredible actor to play the assholes that he does! lol
this has gotta he one of my favorite scenes in Midnight Run- it has so many good lines that I use personally today such as “did it ever occur to you that I am a professional and that I might have my reasons?” So long everybody!
"Listen to me, Jack! You got to be back here in less than two f*cking days! A half million dollars of my money! What the f*ck is goin' on there!!!?" Perhaps the best "curse" dialog line I've ever heard in an american movie. Joey Pants rocks :)
This is one of the flicks you need to see in a theater. And it's not because of special effects for flicks like Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's because funny scenes get amplified when the entire theater erupts with laughter. Threatening to dump him in a swamp was one them.
this is an under-appreciated flic that sports an excellent cast and is LOL funny... one of my all-time favorites and not because I live near Casper WY and that I'm standing in the lobby of a Howard Johnson's wearing a pink carnation...
At 1.40 Joey pants is ready to explode...the whole place stops and looks at him.... and at the end of the screaming match with deniro he just says a quiet yes.... brilliant
Whenever I make a phone call I want to say ‘Jerry, it’s Jack, put Eddie on the phone’ but my name’s not Jack and I’m never calling Jerry or Eddie so it doesn’t work.
This may happen to be the best part of the movie that I like. When he says that he's going to shoot him and dump him in the swamp and then he looks at him and shakes his head no. That is incredible acting.
Well, Sherlock Holmes..(no disrespect to SH) he was great. You aren't. With a collect call they first confirm if the receiver wants to take the call. Then they connect the caller to the receiver. It does take some time and that time is more than enough to light a god damn cigarette and start smoking.
The director of this movie (Martin Brest) made a number of absolutely wonderful movies, then quit the biz after "Gigli" got panned. Not even his fault.
