Midnights Retrospective: The Groundwork for TTPD LORE?? | Taylor Swift Discussion 

I do think Maroon and Question both make more sense now with more of the Matty lore being filled in by TTPD. Prior to it many people speculated that they were about Jake (due to the red reference) and Harry, respectively. Question still isn't a perfect fit, but I feel that Maroon is 100% a precursor to that relationship. The line in the TTPD summary poem "low hanging fruit on his wined stained lips" coupled with the "scarlet maroon" lyric really seals it for me.

That a fun chatty video. My personal interpretation of Midnights is that it is what she told us: sleepless nights throughout her life. But what she didn’t tell us is why she was thinking about those times of her life: she was trying to make sense of her current situation, life and relationship because she was unhappy and uncertain about everything. It’s almost like a therapy exercise of sorts. She left us clues: Dear Reader, Hits Different and You’re Losing Me are the main ones. For example I think Midnight Rain is probably about her high school boyfriend, but she was thinking about that situation because she felt there were similarities between it and her current relationship. Or Bejeweled and High Infidelity, probably about 2016 when she cheated on Calvin Harris (Getaway Car situation), but she was reflecting on that time because she was having similar feelings in her current relationship. And so on and so forth. What do you think?

This was fun. At times I think you were reaching a bit, but I still enjoyed it.
