Not gonna lie but not having able to ride Torrent in the Abysmal Woods gives that spooky vibes. Especially when you read those creepy signs and the ambience

Abyssal Woods was the only level that made me kind of pause and say, “Oh, I’m not sure if I want to do this..” From the Winter Lanterns to Midra’s fight itself, the atmosphere is undoubtedly terrifying

What i dont get is there is no special dialogs for you being the lord of frenzy flame the current one or acknowledged you are

Actually, and narratively, Nanaya is a finger maiden of the three fingers. She wanted Midra to endure so that his suffering is prolonged and in so doing fill himself with infantile hate--the hate that the world should burn because of one's own unjust suffering which is a pre-requisite for one to be reduced to madness. Much like how the wronged merchant caravan locked beneath Leyndell were filled with hate because of Shabriri's lies and whose unjust suffering pushed them to accept the Flame of Frenzy. Nanaya wanted Midra to be filled with hate and for him to one day become a Lord of the Frenzied Flame not unlike the spine of the failed lord she guided before him. Interesting that the reason Torrent refuses to be summoned in the woods is because he feels vulnerable to permadeath in there. Poor horse must be terrified in the Frenzied Flame ending where Melina recovers him, and now there's nowhere to hide from the flame in the Lands Between.

The Lord of Frenzied Flame is a great allegory for The King In Yellow; a cosmic entity who induces madness through whispers in transcripts of what some believe to be a retelling of a malevolent history stars away from us.

I love how the frenzy flame boss's sword doesn't get frenzy damage. I really needed another +holy greatsword I'll never use

Tbh when i first saw the health bar and it said "....Lord of the frenzied flame" I thought he would be unstoppable, like final boss, thanks for playing but you're f'ed.

I assumed that Nanaya was Midra’s finger maiden. Like Hyetta was for us. This means that they became a voice or avatar of the frenzied flame (or maybe Shabriri?). That would make Nayata’s final words “Endure” so fucked since it was all so Midra could suffer for being too weak or possibly for no reason at all.

Other players who have the Lord of Frenzied Flame Ending before the DLC; "There can only one Lord of the Frenzied Flame Midra." " and it is certainly not you."

Funny that the Frenzy always comes down to Love, Vyke had the same fate believing that the frenzy would save his Maiden only to be consumed by it. Midra endured infinite frenzy pain believing in Nanaya’s words to keep going, only to succumb to it and being killed by us

I just came to the horrific realization that Nanaya's Torch is her baby.

Midra:please make it stop, please pleaseeeee Nanaya: bro just thug it out.

This was the boss I felt most bad for. Dude was suffering for hundreds of years, unable to die, his wife already dead and unable to comfort him. Then we invade his mansion and start beating him up, it was the straw that broke the camel's back and he unleashed the horrors kept at bay. The only silver lining is that we end his suffering right there and then

The music is truly my favorite in the whole game.

Im not sure why but his title “Lord of Frenzied flame” makes him seem like a genuine threat to the land. I imagine in another time, if we didn’t stop him, everyone and everything would burn and die

One of my favorite bosses for sure. Like in the whole game I mean not just the dlc. I love the Frenzied Flame. As a concept it’s very strange and almost H.P. Lovecraft like. It’s a primordial flame that is embodiment of chaos in this world. The outer god who commands this flame we don’t know. We don’t know who’s in control of it all we know is that it wants to destroy the world. Literally “May chaos take the world” is the phrase everyone who’s been afflicted says. It is fair, it is indiscriminate, it is without reason. It just IS. Like a law if the universe. Just as there is order in the 2 fingers…there’s chaos in the three fingers. Inherently uneven. It’s only law is to destroy, burn and wither away ALL THINGS. We cannot comprehend the Frenzied Flame and it is uncontrollable. This is why we are hit with madness when we are hit by it. Absolutely insane I love the Frenzied Flame. And I’m so so glad we finally got a boss fight dedicated to it! They so nice to even give a new move aswell and some new weapons too. 10/10 boss with 10/10 lore.

After playing through the Abyssal Woods bit, it seems like it would/should be appropriate to lose the ability/privilege of riding Torrent after you inherit the frenzied flame from the three fingers. It would place that added emphasis on the horrific choice you’ve made.

I personally think that there are more than just one frenzied lord. I believe there are many, like the lords of Nazgûl

Back befire the DLC there were speculations that Midra/Nanaya were related to Marika. What if slaughter of Mikos/Shamans (Marina's people) by Hornsents happened because of Midra's actions and the threat of them summoning the frenzied flame?

Has anyone noticed that the frenzy flame looks like an eye, the outer flame being the iris and the void in the middle as the pupil. I didn’t occur to me until I thought back on how the fell god’s eye on the fire giant looks.

This boss reminds of the Old Monk from Demon’s Souls with the yellow cloth on it

My buddy's favorite ending is the frenzied flame one and he went full conspiracy theorist throughout the DLC every time he saw anything even vaguely resembling a frenzied flame because he wanted it to be tied to the DLC somehow. Cue the Abyssal Woods and he starts flipping out over wanting to fight a lord of frenzied flame. Then this boss happened and we both popped the f off.

Chaos Goldmask is something I didn't know I wanted until I saw this boss.

Nanaya's corpse is a human character model, not a zombie or skeleton model, and she is distinctly missing her eyes.

All I heard when Midra made his plea and screams, was ''Ah, edge.'' ''Must be edge.'' ''Likely edge.''

With the way he was holding and fighting with his weapon i thought it be like the abyss watchers weapon.

I like how he's the failed lord of frenzied flame because he tried to control it and the frenzied flame is chaos but when he lets go and stops enduring, giving into the madness, is when he becomes the lord of frenzied flame in truth

The Abyssal Woods and the boss’s manor are my favorite environments that FromSoft has ever created. The amount of detail that’s gone into curating a terrifying and truly ominous game level is just remarkable to me. The un-killable eye enemies make stealth and hiding an actually necessary and super suspenseful gameplay mechanic. The root overgrowth and dilapidated structures make the areas feel like a place that was forgotten/hidden away to conceal something. The overall tone of the level struck the same chord as Bloodborne for me, but they were able to create that feeling in an open world, where the players freedom of movement and progression isn’t as linear/confined, which I feel like is more difficult to pull off.

Favorite boss of the dlc personally. Didn't feel overtuned and actually took damage. Felt like a good and fair fight.

The pain Midra went through..... to me he's just another cautionary tale of ambition condemning an individual in fire. Both metaphorically and in his case quite literally.

Remember no one can sleep here.. no one. So he was full conscious for the few 1000s years before the shattering. So he's been like that for along time

I killed every Watcher in abyssal woods so I was hoping I could ride Torrent, but no, the mfker still scared. I also love a lot the Abyssal Woods, makes me feel relaxed and I love how the moonlight shows in this area, its just beautiful.

I’m not understanding something. He seeked the power of the frenzied flame but was deemed to weak…yet he also has to keep said power in check?

The abyssal woods is clearly where torrent was marred by fire since frenzy flame can burn even the soul and, y’know, the entire landscape seems to have been scorched at least once before. Even in the lands between where frenzy has dwelled for a long time the environment remains mostly unchanged, so I doubt the winter lantern flies changed the ecosystem because the only thing similar we see is Leyndell in the FF ending. That would explain why Torrent is afraid to be summoned there, poor steed is traumatized from what happened to him in the abyss, but what I don’t understand is if Midra only just became the lord of frenzied flame when we fight him then how is everything already burnt? I know item descriptions say that others have tried and failed just like Midra, but in the end he kinda succeeded when he gave in to madness, did he not? I feel like his suffering, not his body, is what wasn’t strong enough for him to become lord. So who burnt the abyss? Why? How long ago was it? Because now, even the flowers glow with frenzy, species have evolved to coexist with frenzy inside themselves and the cracks in the land shine a sickening yellow and red where embers yet burn. Again I ask the question. Who did this?

I think it's more likely that the madness corrupting the woods is a result of Midra's meddling with the frenzied flame. The lanterns are likely some of the hornsent who were sent to kill him and were the most tainted by its influence. Also, Nanaya was likely the one who convinced him to start messing with it in the first place. Notice how she has a blindfold on just like the frenzied maiden we meet. She was likely sent by Shabriri or someone else to influence him.

I think, truly, when you fight him. Midra tries to fight you off only to distract you until you hear… It was a Howl. A Howl worse than Shabrari’s. It was a Howl of Love brought to the brink. A Midra’s Howl. Shabriri may have been the “father” of Madness. But he would not/can not anymore feel this.

I thought the Lands Between were bad, but the Lands of Shadow just has every bad thing from the main game and more.

Fighting Midra and then going with the Frenzied Flame ending is actually dope

I'm so mad midra isn't related to Marika 😮‍💨 I wanted to learn more about her lineage. The DLC is amazing and I want more but im still wishing we could get some new Melina dialog about frenzy after killing midra.

He probably got ties to Gideon, the thing on his rags is eyes and ears the symbol of the all Knowing. Makes sense if he also searched for answer's and power.

As someone who loves bloodborne to death, abyssal woods was my favorite place, my only complain is that there's no winter-lantern helmet for yourself, I'd wear that thang 24/7

Why didn't they just... kill him? If the Frenzied Flame inside him dies with him... why stick a sword in his head and cause him so much suffering? Seems a bit nonsensical...

Honestly , the fact Torrent would be to afraid to be summoned if we become Lord of Frenzy is enough reason for me to keep away from that ending. Despite everything telling me it’s the best option now.

Midra's story is terrifying because everything we believe the Frenzied Flame to be was a lie, Shabriri praises it as a symbol of chaos and change for those in despair but it is actually the embodiment of horror and oblivion. It pretty much explains Melina's warning and encouraging the tarnished not to lose hope in life no matter how dark it can be and why Shabriri himself didn't become a lord despite worshipping it and being a body snatcher. The flame ending is just that, we didn't burn the lands between into the ground, we simply condemned everything and everyone into oblivion, an action Melina can't forgive.

I think this is my favorite boss in Elden Ring. It's at least my favorite from the DLC. I just love everything about the design. The forest before reaching the masion is a bit of a drag though

You know im not sure if its too related by every time i watch his cutscene the pose he strikes after pulling the sword really reminds me of praise the sun which was a dark souls exclusive thing and ive always felt that the frenzied flame is very reminiscent of the first flame

I still don't get why is the Tarnished blamed for the frenized flame by Midar is it because we the player became lord of frienized flame

I loved the look of this area and the creepy enemies, but I have to agree with people that the place ultimately felt pretty empty. Should have been some madness dungeons and a few more enemy types.

My main take away. Those who become the Lord of chaos are inherently masters of edging. 😂

What is the relation between him and the 3 fingers? did he get FF from them or did he get it from the outer gods? And if he got it from the 3 fingers what stopped him from going all the way and ruling the land between?

i liked that i cant use torrent since i just ran over dozens of enemies and that was not really fun. But only if the map wasnt so vague, couldve been better
