He has such a beautiful way with words.. Another favourite from him is this one www.goodreads.com/quotes/8877388-to-know-the-dark-to-go-in-the-dark-with
Came across this video and showed it to my granddaughter, who's 4 1/2 years old. She saw a few flying insects and got back with me saying, that lady is so lucky to have fairies in her garden. They're so fast your eyes have to be quick. She tells everyone by way of her great grandma that if you see butterflies and dragonflies, fairies will be near, flying alongside or riding the dragonflies backs. She calls the garden spiders the guardians of the gardens.
Well you can tell her from me that there are definitely fairies here. My fabric raven came down with a message for one of the garden inhabitants. I don't know who yet as I haven't made them yet... but a story is there to be told! Also... I love to see the patterns on the big spiders...
A beautiful poem & a beautiful day spent in the garden. Thank you for sharing as the summer solstice is almost upon us again and I think I'll smash flowers this year. Blessings!
Your videos are fantastic Marion. I’ve learned so much from you. You have so many brilliant skills. I love your bird book & flower book. Hadn’t heard of flower pounding before. What lovely results
You had a busy day, thank you for sharing it with us. The blackbird was making himself heard in your idyllic enclosed garden, no doubt wondering what that other black bird was doing there. The flower pounding was such a revelation, you are a lady of many talents. Hope you enjoyed your Solstice day.
Just came across this video - it indeed looks like a Secret Garden - lovely! I don't have a yard at the moment, so I'm enjoying yours with you and the rock bun as well. What a great tip on cutting in butter, thank you! :-) Asheville, North Carolina USA
I live in Australia, so our weather is just becoming nice, I will be taking my stitching outside while its nice, couldnt sit outside in summer its too hot. @@marionsworld24
Wow! The flower prints are gorgeous, your garden is magical, and bird magnificent! Thank you for sharing so many wonderful things. You are amazingly talented and a great teacher. I'm loving your channel. Thank you so much for sharing your world! 💕
I LOVE this (too!! totally addicted to you, your work and your videos) This is the ONLY "eco-dying" that has ever worked for me. The minute I started watching this, I ran out to my flower beds and brought in some blossoms to play with. The phlox worked brilliantly, as did the mint and wild geranium leaves. I did some day lilies too, but their prints ended up looking more like iris on the fabric. Not only did I get some wonderful fabrics to play with, it was genuinely gratifying to know that I may have been irritating my neighbors for a change, lol. THEIR noise never stops 🤪😈🦀 edit: my hot pink phlox went purple just like your pink flowers.
Some of the colours really are surprising. If you want them to stay better you'll have to treat your cloth with a mordant like alum... It's lovely just to experiment though and see what happens 🌿🌸
Oh my word, your garden is lovely. If that were here where I live ( southern United States) I would never wander through there without a really good set of snake boots on lol. I’m jealous seeing everyone’s gardens that are full and thick like this without a worry of being snake bitten. So I live vicariously though you all. You had a nice day, busy, but nice.
I can't even imagine having to watch out for snakes in the garden! Of course you will have lovely warm weather there. We've got rain, rain and more rain with a bit of coldness thrown in at the moment. Plus it's getting dark at around 4.30pm too...
Absolutely beautiful Marion. Thank you for sharing your day with us. I love your black bird. He is a handsome fellow. Looking forward to seeing more of you and your little corner of the world. Your garden is the perfect picture of an English country garden, to me. 🥰
Summer solstice is such a beautiful time of year. I love your garden. It looks like a magical fairy garden. Your raven is so beautiful. Your imagination is so amazing. So lovely spending this time with you. I believe if you lived close to me we would be grand friends. Thank you so much for being you and starting up your youtube channel
What a delightful video, Marion. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of i! Definitely going to have a go at your smashing 🤭 eco printing technique in the summer. Hardy geraniums, the blue ones, are one of my favourite flowers, as are yellow roses, so I’m very inspired by that. My mum is in her 80’s and was making Rock Cakes regularly until fairly recently, because they’re my dads favourite. He likes to have chopped dates in them, and they were also delicious. I absolutely love coconut and would have it in everything if I could, so I think I’m going to have a go at doing them with coconut, maybe with a cherry on top too. The raven is spectacular! You are a very talented lady. I’ve only just found your channel, so I’m currently binge-watching to catch up and letting the adverts run so I hope that’ll help you with the RU-vid algorithms. Please keep up the good work, and showing us what you get up to in your world. I haven’t read the comments, but I’m sure I’m not alone in looking forward to watching your channel develop. Your confidence appears to be growing with each video, and it’s so lovely to see. Wishing you all the best with it. Oh..and, I’ve also got a pet gander called Boo, after the enigmatic character in “To kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, which is one of my favourite novels. Your Boo reminds me very much of a cat that I had once that was a cross with a Maine Coon. He had the most delicious strawberry blonde curly belly and was a real character, just like your Boo! Take care
What a lovely message to read. Thank you for taking the time to send it. I'm so happy you enjoy seeing whatever I'm doing. I've definitely got more used to filming.. I hadn't got a clue originally 😅
I really do enjoy following what you're getting up to. I seem to share a lot of your interests, from what I've seen so far, so I'll be following along for the forseeable future I should think. ❤
We live in central California, it's almost impossible to have a beautiful garden with water rationing. The Orange trees and walnut trees get the most of the water. Thank you for sharing your garden, I relish it so much. The picture you see on the side is my great grandson.
Your garden is so wild and wooly...you must have wonderfully rich soil. I really enjoyed you showing us how to make your spoon dropped scones. Ive just learned how to make them. I will try the grated butter idea, so much faster.
We drove for 2 hrs on 20th in heavy rain to celebrate a Golden Wedding and deliver the Sampler I'd stitched. Returned in sunshine all evening and had more sunshine today. Felt as if I was enjoying Summer Solstice with you in your peaceful garden. Pity we couldn't smell the Rock Buns and try one😂! Fascinated by how the flower pounding turned out and how you're creating the bird. Thanks Marion
Stunning garden and I am very envious of your honeysuckle. We have only been here a short so I have left everything to grow to see what comes up. Lovely snowdrops and daffodils, now colorful poppies and otherwise flowersxandcwwide variety of grasses. Enjoy your garden its beautiful x
Omg, never heard of this method of printing, ingenious, is there no limit to your talents??!! Will try this when my garden is in full bloom. Xx jen in Reading. X
Hello Marion....Happy Solstice....🌞...your garden looks completely magical and so full of beautiful flowers..🥀🌼🥀..I am now feeling very homesick listening to the blackbird song. I really like the flower pounding the results look like a water colour painting. I have made lost of rock buns lately and it seems that they are very popular with my grandchildren as they disappear just like that. 😊
That was a very nice video with lots of different things going on. Thank you. You said you didn't make scones, but I couldn't hear what you called those lovely things - and yes, I wanted a bite. It is so fun to see the variety of things you like to do.
Definitely good luck. It should work well. I've never done it with paper because I'm more of a fabric person... I'm so pleased you read the poem. He's an amazing poet. He writes a lot about nature.
Hi from OZ Marion😎😊 Wow that was such an enjoyable 45 mins, wish it was longer 😍 I wish I had an imagination like yours !! That bird is amazing 😍 Love your garden 🤗 TFS XXX I'm off to make rock cakes now, haven't made them for years xxx
Thank you Pauline. I hope your rock cakes came out well ☺️ Mine were a bit brown because I forgot to adjust the temperature downwards because of having a fan oven 😏 Probably because I was filming at the same time and wasn't thinking straight... The raven is nearly finished now. He'll be getting his moment of glory soon... Thank you for watching and sending me a message too.
Do you like Wendell Berry too Virginia? He's one of my favourite poets. Although I've just found someone new called Mary Walker. She's in New Zealand and writes such beautiful, thoughtful poetry about nature.
@@marionsworld24 I do, and Anne Lamott, who you might also enjoy. Of course the poems of Mary Oliver are amazing, too. I will look for Mary Walker, I'm not sure if I have read her or not.
@@marionsworld24 I almost forgot, I was so inspired by your botanical print making that I ordered some Alum to give it a try! Do you just wash the fabrics in the machine when done?
I haven't as yet. I think because I've only used the fabric so far for making craft things with. You should be able to wash it though once you've used the alum to treat the fabric first.
Thank you for sharing a day in your life. You have some amazing ideas. Your garden is so nice and peaceful with all the flowers and birds singing. I used to have honeysuckle just like that at a house I lived at. And Confederate jasmine too. They smelled wonderful. I wish we had the climate for all the flowers and greenery you have. Today in San Antonio, Texas it was 40° Celsius. It will be cooler tomorrow. Only 36 to 37 Celsius. Most plants fry with out some shade. And yes I think a rock bun and tea would be wonderful. What fun to pound flowers for all that color. And it also would get out a lot of frustrations if you had any.😊 How did you think to start making the raven? Very interesting. Is it the same one I saw in your fabric bunting video?
You got me there Karen! Yes he was standing in the background. I'd just got his wings on and managed to get him balanced. I finished his tail today too 😊 I made a crow first from a pattern, and when I was making it I just knew I had to make a raven 😅 I don't think I could cope with the heat you've had there. It's been around 24deg here this afternoon and that's plenty hot for me!
@@marionsworld24 Marion I would love to have 24° here. That's cooler than our low tonight. 😎 We are having a very hot June. Usually that doesn't happen till middle of July thru August. But this is Texas. Don't like the weather hang around a few hours... it will change.😊 It's my birthday Sunday the 25th. I will be 66. Sometimes I wonder where the time has gone. Thank you for your reply. You seem like a lovely lady. Karen
I'll definitely try the flower pounding next summer, I thought they looked lovely. I want to try the scones/rock buns (I don't know if they are the same thing) but I didn't get the amount of butter in the recipe. Could you give that to me please? You have beautiful rambling gardens. Thank you for your video.
Thanks for sharing your solstice with us! The garden is a dream! And I’ve never seen anyone pound plants to make prints. As soon as my flowers bloom I will try it as well! What is the bird singing in the video?
He's a blackbird. Really common but with the most beautiful song. He sings nearly all day. I've been trying to get him to come up to me and he's getting quite brave 😊
Just started watch this today, I’m watching all your videos. I’m wondering where you got your alum from. I looked for it the last time I was in England but couldn’t find any. I bought a marbling kit and it only has a small bag of alum in it. Loving all your videos.
I use Aluminium acetate which I just found online. Alum acetate is particularly good for vegetable fibres and silk. I didn't buy a huge quantity as I don't need much to do the sorts if things that I do. You should have some lovely vibrant flowers etc in Crete... Don't discount the leaves either, they can make exceptionally beautiful prints.
20:00 after flower pounding to the fabric, do you do anything to the fabric to set the colors from the flowers? To keep the colors from fading from the fabric?
I used 1 teaspoon of alum to 4 pints of very hot water. Not boiling though. Then soak your fabric for half an hour or so before hanging it out to dry. Don't rinse the alum out if it though. Once the fabric is dry and ironed it's ready for flower fun!🌸🌸
How lovely! I’d like to try the flower pounding-but I didn’t understand what I need to do to the fabric prior to make the flower color colorfast-something about alum? How do I go about doing that process? Thank you so much for a lovely day!
I used 1 teaspoon of alum to 4 pints of hot water. Soak the fabric for half an hour or so and then hang out to dry without rinsing. Iron it flat and you're ready to go!
@@ValerieJGarrison Hello Valerie. I got mine from an online natural wool and dye shop. They sell all things to do with natural dyeing. You can find it on the general internet though. If you're in the UK the place I got mine from was Wingham Wool Work.
you live a blessed life, in a world full of color, texture, birds and flowers. Its like you are exactly where you were meant to be a living a full life because you are tapping into all the gifts and talents your soul brought into this world to explore and discover how to be creative and we are all benefiting from it. Thank you so much!
I really appreciate your message. Thank you so much. I just don't need much other than to keep creating the things I want to do in the best way I can ... 💐🧵🪡🌿
I loved watching this as I was sewing at my machine. We have been so dreary here, seeing the sun and hearing the birds gave me the hope of warmer days to come. Thank you, Marion.
You can actually freeze the butter to shred it fast and the room temp will warm it up and works great too. But I will also try your method of rolling it in the flour, that is a great trick!
It works best with cotton. I used 1 teaspoon of alum to approximately 4 pints of hot water. It doesn't have to be boiled. Hot water from the tap will be fine. Add the fabric to the water and soak for about half an hour. Then hang to dry. Don't rinse though. Iron the fabric and then it's ready for the flowers 😊🌸🌻
Thank you for sharing your world, Marion. This was a beautiful video with all the things in it that make me happy and I learned a new method of making rock buns 😊
I'm happy you enjoyed it Gail. I was still trying to learn how to make the videos, so the earlier ones are sometimes a bit long as I didn't know how to edit them properly... The flower pounding is a great thing to try. I've used some of the prints in my flower book 😊
Such a beautiful relaxing video. Loved how you used flowers and leaves to print fabric! I bet it is fabulous with embroidery! So excited to give this a flower pounding try! 😂
Marion! I am so excited! We have a ton of Mulberries on the tree we planted 5 years ago. It is loaded! Already made mulberry syrup and jam. 😋 NOW, I want to see if some of that beautiful fruit can be used for flower pounding. The leaves are large and green and the fruit is deep purple. 😊
Oh I'm so jealous! If I had a huge garden the first thing I'd plant would be a mulberry tree...💕 I have a story of eating them in Buckingham palace gardens.... scrumptious!!...☺️
Thanks for sharing your day and your beautiful garden it all looks so tranquil ❤ It was interesting seeing your flower prints I might give it a try in the summer time…it’s winter solstice her in New Zealand so the flowers are a bit few and far between at the moment 😊 I’ve never tried rock buns they certainly look delicious and your Raven 🐦⬛ is stunning. What a talented lady you are.
Thanks a lot Tracey. Rock buns are delicious. A proper old-fashioned little cake! The raven is coming along nicely too. His tail is finished now. I hope you do give the flower pounding a try. It's amazing to see the beautiful print emerging. And even the failures provide pretty little snippets of colour to be used somewhere.
That raven you're making here is magnificent. What you can do with a few bits of fabric and some stray threads is nothing short of amazing. Such beautiful beautiful work .
Hello Marion, with greetings from Ottawa, Canada. I have only recently come across you and your world. Loved this wander through your garden along with everything else in the video. I have started your 2024 stitch along and am looking forward to that as well as catching up on your past videos:)
Marion, your flower pounding was amazing. Those rock buns looks yummy! How much of butter? One stick of butter? The birds were really talking up a song. Have a blessed day 🌈💛🙏💛🌈.
Love your channel! Thanks for explaining how to hammer flowers! Can you wash the hammered flowers? Thank you for the rock bun recipe… like the way you grated the butter..great idea! Wow your raven looks awesome!! Love your garden too!! Thanks for sharing your day!
