For civpro, just stick to the basics. Codal will save you. Then annotation for concepts that you find difficult to grasp. Then jurisprudence for application! But really, codal is life
For Civil procedure, you can first get down the general process in order (eg. issue the writ and statement of claim, then service, then enter appearance etc to execution of judgement). Then you put down the various timelines involved like you have 5 days after X to do Y and then learn the various exceptions to the general rule. I suggest you note the cases down as you do this and then read the cases as a sort of revision when you are done with the general rules. That helped me get the principles stick better. Then you study the other topics like Probate and Administration and those other stand alone topics. (Learn the general rule and then the exceptions after) And finally, remember you are brilliant and a fantastic student! (Sorry if some of the terms I used are foreign to you. I'm not in the Philippines) Hope it helps!
For CivPro, its helpful to make your own flowchart for the procedure from filing of the complaint to execution to modes of appeal. Once you have the flowchart, insert the exceptions and the exceptions to the exception.. Once you master the flowchart, you will be able to see the whole picture and it will be easier to point out what remedies and what defenses are available at that particular stage of the proceeding. I find the flowchart method helpful because remedial law questions are usually "what remedies/defenses are available, if any?". If you master the flowchart, you will be able to understand CivPro (even CrimPro) better.. I hope this helps and God bless on your law school journey..
people already said this but flowcharts and tables are key for civ pro! small claims, summary procedure, regular procedure, make tables comparing them. modes of appeal, table to compare and flowchart again. make the info bitesized kay overwhelming jud if you don't. good luck!
back in our 1st year 1st sem, it was crim pro, instead of civ pro. i had my civ pro 1 in my 2nd sem together with oblicon and other subjects. yes it kinda hard to comprehend civ pro. it is about the steps wherein civil cases are filed up to its decision. just stick to codal, textbook and cases. our prof back then isnt fan of giving cases in civ pro 1, she just based her lectures from the textbook. but when i had my civ pro 2, our diff prof there did not prescribe any book, he just gave cases. there i had better understanding. so its codal, textbook, cases, then other supplemental books and/or materials like youtube videos in law subjects. i hope you stand firm with what you started. i will be tuning in with your law school updates 🙂
Tip: Use Riano's books on Remedial Law to get the overview of the subject. Civil Procedure and other rules are not arranged properly so you need a concrete structure of the rules. Of course, codal first then books after. If you have still time, before sleeping, read previous bar questions and answers. This will help you during exams. Good luck!
