Dreams do come true.
If you don't dare to dream, how will you achieve it?
Miesha Tate embodies this philosophy: pursue your dreams and do what you love.
Go all in.
In this interview filmed in 2009, 24-year-old Miesha Tate had just won the Freestyle Cage Fighting 135 lb title.
She was still 2 years away from winning the Strikeforce title, and 7 years away from being crowned the UFC bantamweight world champion.
While the glory of winning her first title was sweet, Miesha, and many of her teammates were scrimping to get by, sharing cramped living quarters in the makeshift “fighters’ bungalow” tucked in the attic of the gym.
Life was not easy, but it was simple. They woke up, they trained, and they were happy, fueled by passion and earnest, single-minded drive to pursue their dreams.
This interview is an excerpt and collaboration with award-winning documentary “Fight Life” by independent filmmaker James Z. Feng.
The film takes an intimate look into the dreams and struggles of professional MMA fighters across the USA.

All these very negitive comments. Why though? All you guys are missing the point of this video. Look how much they sacrificed. How they gave themselves to what they felt passionate about. Where they the best at it? Probably not. But again: that wasn't a video about the best fighters. It was about their dedication to the sport.

Great documentary. I'm a bit more surprised you featured her partially because she wasn't mainly a striker, but it's good footage and solid stuff to ponder.

She’s an animal on the mat. Miesha could make an average person cry and tap out. She knows all the locks and submissions. If she gets the takedown you are in serious trouble.

Some people don't realize that Miesha Tate was one of the best technical fighters on the ground in the history of women's mma. She had a much smaller build than most of her competition at Bantamweight, yet she could still get those elite fighters to the ground without needing to overpower them. Her takedowns in the clinch were awesome as well, and she had a lot of submission techniques in her back pocket. The patience Miesha showed against Holly Holm despite Holly picking her apart on the feet really impressed me. Her ability to keep her composure despite losing big on points to a much more seasoned fighter, and striker showed her patience, and championship quality as a fighter. Miesha knew that all she needed was one opportunity to get Holly on the ground, or take her back to level the playing field. Once she got ahold of Holly's back, and stuck to Holly like glue, the fight was over. Miesha was not going to let go of that choke even if she was struck by lighting. That was her last chance to win the fight, and she damn well knew it. I still believe Miesha could have beaten Ronda Rousey as well, but it just wasn't in the cards for her, plus I think her distain for Ronda made Miesha rush into things, and she wasn't as methodical in those two fights. I don't think Ronda was ever the better technical fighter, but she was stronger, more explosive, bigger, and the more physically gifted athlete. Miesha looked like a strawweight in comparison when fighting against Ronda, and Holly Holm.

Despite playing the villain in Rhonda Rousey's story line, she is STILL one of the greatest female mixed martial artists and her legacy will never be tarnished. She ALWAYS gave it her all in the octagon from start to finish like a true champion.
