Beautiful plane. Video shows inside and outside of it and very good quality.
Amendment: Video was shot in Czech Republic (with a c!) Please enjoy this video, keep the country-bashing, and political bashing to a minimum. :) this is a wonderful video about a plane that is very old and loved by many. If you stumbled across this when looking for Raptor's or Hornet's or whatever American plane you prefer PLEASE check your spelling in the search engine and don't take out your aggression's here. Thank you! :)

This airplane might be old, but it is a legend! It has served Eastern Europe and Russia for over 50 years and is still in service in some countries. True, there are much better aircraft today, but the MiG-21 remains my favorite!

Probably one of the most cost effective jet fighters of the 20th century. Brilliant piece of engineering. The first Soviet frontline fighter, designed from the outset, to be equipped with long range air-to-air missiles and targeting radar.

I really love this plane. Pity that none of aircraft displayed in this video does not exist anymore. :-( Only the number 4003 is used for static display as a monument. I think this video shows their last flight in 2005. (after which they were offered for sale and scrapped in 2006)

Awsome video!! I am an American and an airplane buff. The video is great and shows the MIG -21 in and out. I wish we had more videos like this. The MIG-21 was the answer to our F-4. Both very capeable aircraft. From the video, I wouldn't want to mess with the MIG-21 today. Still bad to the bone. Better then an F-4? Let the experts figure that one out.

The Squadron had stopped its flying operations from June 30, 2022. The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Friday retired the No. 51 'swordarms' MiG-21 fighter Squadron based in Srinagar. With this the IAF is left with three MiG-21 Bison squadrons, which will be phased out in the next three years.

ionuttamasan Hiya. No mistake. The mig21 is a good dog fighter (remember, we were talking pilots of equal skill), and still out turns and out accelerates many aircraft in current service. As for it only being an interceptor: there are many folks who have been bombed by Mig21's in recent years, or photo'd by recce 21's. Not to mention the cold war threat of whole squadrons of 21's equipped for spraying NATO troops with chemical agent if the balloon had ever gone up.

NOTHING like a rubber-facecup Phazotron radar! But W/O those drop tanks, you BETTER BE ON FINAL 40 minutes after takeoff! A FRIEND BOUGHT ONE FOR just $80G - from Poland! 700 hrs on the airframe, just 70 on the engine! We pulled that HUGE old radar and balanced it back with batteries- no start-cart necessary! GREAT design! Only a few sizes of screws & bolts, phat tires for grass fields, AND EVERYTHING IMPORTANT RAN DOWN THAT 'SPINE". State Dept. stole our 23-mm cannon & left the seat ARMED!

What is the big dial-thingy under the HUG for? Is that part of the the ground-controlled intercept system, to show the pilot which way to fly? How about the little trefoil-looking lights on either side of it? What are those for? I also wonder about the big "F" on the safety padding.

They need to make a MiG-21 with updated avionics and thrust vectoring, and a stronger airframe if needed
@dogsbd
@dogsbd 15 лет назад
The reason for that is that the US continued to develop and use better fighters (F-14,F-15, F-16, F-18, F-22) while some third rate countries continued to use outdated and dangerous to operate MiG-21's. India is getting rid of it's 21's as fast as it can so as to not loose more pilots to it. But just to be complete, the F4 is still in service with Egypt, Germany, Greece, Iran, Japan, S Korea and Turkey. And in the US as a target drone.

You're sure? because i remember watching dogfights on the history channel and it was a situation where a flight of Vought F-8 Crusaders were engaging MiG-17's over Hanoi. Later in the engagement they dogfighted MiG-21's and it said that MiG-21 encounters were rare as the vietcong had very few in their inventory and only used them in hit and run engagements, and yeah my favorite air war was the skies over Iraq in desert storm, and how American F-15's engaged MiG-29's. Amazing (:
@AShadowbox
@AShadowbox 11 лет назад
Yeah I love the show Dogfights. I'll PM you a link where I got my information though. Also, vietcong =/= NVA. The VC were basically insurgent fighters who were separate from the official army. They didn't have ROE, didn't answer to the government, and knew the jungle like the back of their hands. The NVA were more organized but had a larger chain of command because they answered to the government. Can't explain well in a comment but basically vietcong = guerrilla fighters. NVA = main army.

@GoMiGman
@GoMiGman 10 лет назад
***** lol. First of all, before I school you on your lack of knowledge as a result of your self imposed arrogance, learn how not to use a double negative because it usually turns into a positive - "no longer in use by no one" has 2 no's in it which means it's a yes and grammatically incorrect. So when you're trying to correct someone, even if your attempted correction is a complete fail in the first place like it was here, at least try to be grammatically correct and salvage some dignity. It will help you a little. Now, go back to wherever it was you got your information about the AK-47 and ask the same question again and see if you get the right answer this time. Here, I'll help you - the original AK-47 (Automatic Kalashnikov 1947) is not only still in use, but it is still the MOST WIDELY used MG in the world by eons and that's not even counting the licensed copies by at least 12 different countries! The countries still using some type of the ORIGINAL AK-47 are - THE ENTIRE MIDDLE EAST (Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, etc.) to central Asia (Pakistan, India) to South East Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos), to even Europe (Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina) DOWN TO AFRICA (Sudan, Somalia, Burundi, Rwanda, Zaire, Namibia etc.......etc.........), get the point? Christ, Mozambique has put the AK-47 on their flag post revolution! Make it easy on yourself and go to Wikipedia and you'll see and learn, I hope! So be careful when you come off like that because your knowledge is obviously lacking severely and you end up making a complete fool out of yourself. Trying to say "no one uses the AK-47 any more" is not only super, idiotically ignorant by you, but you also completely failed to see the fun humor in my original comment in that the MiG-21 and the AK-47 were both the greatest things that came out of Russia! Why even go where you went!?!?! Dumb! One more thing, the more you use name-calling doesn't make you any more of a man or tough on the internet or funny or anything great that you might think it does. It actually makes you look even more foolish and especially childish. Consider this a free lesson so you don't make a fool out of yourself again.

Ah yes, good ol' Cold War fighter. Forget stealth and advanced radar and fly-by-wire. Back in those days all you needed was a good engine, a good gun, and some rocket packs. That goes for east and west; the F-86, F-100, F-5, F-8, Mystere IV, Hawker Hunter, English Electric Lightning, Super Mystere, Mirage III, MiG-15 up to MiG-21. That's when jet fighters were actually fighters and not just just flying computers which shoot missiles from miles and miles away.

Its impossible to upgrade it to 5th gen , but it can be refitted with new radar, engine and avionics .. newer MIG-21 like the Lanzer have glass-cockpits with color MFDs , can launch modern missiles and use the MIG-29 turbofan engine, they can be quite dangerous because if guided by good GCI they can go without radar low and pop up some AA-12/AA-13 from behind and ran away.. that probably is not much danger for F-22 but can ruin some 4th gen fighters like F-16 and F-18s in attack runs

You must have mixed up the 19 and the 21. The 19 was really just an improved 17 and wasn't on the field long. Oh, and if you're interested, a good Vietnam air battle story, research Operation Bolo. Okay, for one thing, that is 100% wrong. Soviet Air Force pilots never did major work on that war. 1.) Most Foreign pilots who fly for Egypt on that war was either Mercenaries from France, Iraq, Syria, or Libya. 2.) Most Mig-21 was flown by Egyptian pilots. Only operations where large number of Mig-21 is destroyed is Op. Focus. In this case, Israel destroys many Egyptians and Syrians aircraft ON the ground. Only 70~ in air combat. And Israels lost 40+ fighters in that to air combat as well.

@sedmoagalnikful: The MIG-21 was outclassed by F4 Phantom's. In Operation Bolo [ 1967 ] the F4's killed nine (9) vietnamese MIG-21's without casualties. In Operation Rimon-20 [ 1970 ] israeli Mirages & Phantom's killed five soviet MIG-21 without a lost aircraft.

I actually agree with Bigweave that US pilots and the F-4 are superior to the mig-21. I mean, 2 of them were shot down by a B-52 super fortress tailgunner (Mig 21 units of the Vietnam War, Istvan Toperczer, p. 66). Not to mention the thrust capabilities of the F-4 alone were enough to evade the mig-21 despite its weight and lack of maneuverability and agility (Phantom Over East Asia, chapter 2.3, Greg Goeble). What I don't like is people who contribute nothing to the argument.
