It's not exactly fair saying that MZK was cleaner, since they didn't do anything even remotely close in difficulty to what Gamblerz did. There were a couple of crashes, but even if that cost them the respective rounds, they were much better in execution, technicality, and even musicality. MZK was good, for a 1995 battle. Everything was basic, with very short sets. I saw the battle back then, and I'm watching it right now once more only to be reassured that Gamblerz were robbed.
I was at this battle, and the crowd's choice was clearly Gamblerz. Talking to some of the bboys there, thoughts were that Zulu was cleaner, but Gamblerz had more difficult and more innovative moves. This is most obvious in the routines that were thrown down.
round for round, Gamblerz won with a landslide but if you were there and saw the judges, you already know who's gonna take it. Gamblerz came with harder technicality in moves, routines and musicality vs old school bboy flavor. there were maybe 2 crashes from Gamblerz but they were doing some incredible shit and mzk came with cool top rock routines. if you look closely Fantom, Smurf and Kmel repeated every round. just look and see.
I was there at that event and the crowd knew who the true winner was. Talked to couple Gambler guys and they knew they couldn't win with the judges and the whole politics that Alien Ness love to use. People were cheering Gambler when the battle was over.
Still think to this day that Gambler deserved to win that. Doing footwork doesn't automatically mean you're listening to the music any closer or that you have better style or whatever fallacy the judges at this event were swayed by.
Gamblerz strike again! It's amazing after all these years they can still get down like this. Much closer battle than before though. zulu actually looked good... fresh battle.
Counting 6 years later in the year 2019.. Yeah he could have at least put the year on the title. I was like, wtf? this doesn’t look recent with all the OGs from both sides.
@@TheBishop12 Cros1 was too pussy to release the DVD. He knew Gamblerz were robbed as everyone was saying that after the battle was over. I remember it even continued at Bboyworld which was the biggest bboy online forum at that time.
Are you serious? Both crews were dope, but there were more than 2 crashes coming from gamblerz.Yes, MZK repeated, but Gamblerz did airchairs in almost all of their rounds. Repeats or not, if you crash during a solo or routine, it still counts as a crash for the WHOLE ROUND. And you lose that round if your opponent comes with a cleaner round, regardless if they repeated or not.
What does this, or any of your other comments, have anything to do with what I wrote regarding this battle? What they did in their time is irrelevant. A crew does not get extra credit because of their past achievements or whatnot. When you go to battle, you get judged based on what you do there and then, not on what you may have done before. MZK are frozen in time indeed and are falling behind badly, whether you like it or not, despite revolutionizing the scene back then.
I remember being there and thinking Gamblers got robbed. But seeing it this close, they just weren't as on point with the moves. Ability is way high, but MZK was cleaner with more energy. Still close, but I see why the judges chose how they did
Born was not Gambler. He was asked by one of old Gambler dude (name Music) to battle with them but it was a one time thing. Born was part of Nanjangpan before he joined Rivers.
These are supposed to be two of the best crews in the world at what was the biggest jam in the world at the time. Doesn't matter how difficult the moves are, you have to execute. I'm not a huge MKZ fan and I thought they shoulda lost before this battle. But in this particular battle they played it smarter and got the win. would I have judged the same? dunno, but Gamblers weren't robbed, they just lost.
What the hell.. Gamblerz definitely smoked them. They were much cleaner, had better group routines, musicality and dynamics. MZK was boring and still they won!? Hell, if all thats judged on is flavor I might as well stop being a bboy.
Man, I did not understand your answer / question! But b.boy Born was the one who founded the Gamblers, and only in 2003 that he decided to leave and then found the Rivers! o/ Pz
That all rockers have to stop dancing? You can not talk that MZK is frozen in time! They are one of the few crews in the world to raise the banner of true culture, how it should really be done! The Glamber appeared in 2003, and has always been known to just run "moves"!
Do not miss a second one with you! It will be easier for me to find you in a Cypher, and struggle to show you the true essence of dance and culture! You are completely wrong! The Rock Dance for example, has never been "modified", are you saying then that dance like that no longer serves the present?
I initially watched this battle as gamblerz winning 10 years ago but now that I watched it again and learning bboy culture more I think Zulu won. The foundation and top rock and musicality Zulu had was much better than Gamblerz. However, to gamblerz defense they were more dynamic and technical. If you watch the gamblerz now you notice that they also embrace bboying as whole not just doing power moves. I love gamblerz mad respect to them as still bringing it til this day. Legends.
Wow, to y'all that say Gamblerz won. need to learn what real bboyin is. Repeating moves, biting and crashing and dancing to the music doesn't win battles. Zulu was clean, and mad original.
Haha get your head out of your ass. Dance evolves, your like one of those old school bboys 7 years ago hating on newschool style crews like jinjo mo0 predators etc saying you need basic and oldschool footwork or your not a bboy. Won't name drop but they got called out online and at jams for not evolving and accepting new styles and that the dance evolves and gets more technically difficult with moves. Now people who have the same viewpoint as you are basically shit on at jams and in the bboy community
B.boy Born now part of MZK, was once the Gambler, but left because he realized that there was not your place, even if their words! Mzk there since 1978! So there is nothing to discuss about their content! Learn what is the true essence of the culture, then do not go talking nonsense!
