In this episode of MIJ SUPPLEMENTAL, we'll be taking a look at the differences between early MIJ model tiers including finishes, electronics and hardware complement, and identification. We'll be using the info we've gleaned from seeking out these guitars as well as the 1983 Fender Japan catalog.

I bought a MIJ strat in 1984 that came with a Kahler tremolo system! I have never seen another like it. I still have this guitar and it has been a fantastic guitar.

I played an 84 MIJ 62 reissue the other day. The back felt more like an actual 62 than even the custom shop fenders today. The way they rolled the edges is perfect. Great guitars.

man... i have a very weird bastard mij superstrat... hm series body, and a reverse fender talon neck... but its a floyd rose series!... ive only seen two of this ever it plays amazing... ive upgraded it witha gotoh floyd and some dimarzio dactivator x and im makong some sweet djent with it

Would love to hear more about the ones with hardware made in Germany. If I remember correctly, my MIJ Black Strat serial # starts with the letter E…. I’ll have to check in the morning…. My dog crashed on me and I can’t get up….lol😂

I have a MIJ strat with only a serial number on the headstock (C 00), nothing on the neck plate. All I know is that C means it was made in 85/6. Does anyone have any info on these models ?

This is true! Plenty of inconsistencies with neck pocket/neck heel stamps on Fender Japan guitars. Best we can do is provide details on what's there in the majority of cases, and weigh each situation w/o stamps on an individual basis.
