Its such a torture for a mika fan to read the comment section. Everybody giving credits to Ariana when the only one who deserves credits is Mika. He wrote and originally performed this song alone.
main group of people listening: wow ariana grande is the best other group: this is from wicked and if you didn't know that you're uncultured me: I really like mika. His own songs are the best, but his voice is just so good that I like this too
+Ailev Chavez Me too, I'm glad I'm not popular, I'm in 5th grade and this is to all the popular kids in my school and other schools... You Guys are so Crazy and stupid!!!!!!!
This song gives me life. I may have been the weird kid in high school, but someday I'll be the best-selling author, and the children of the people who ignored and mocked me will be reading my books.
I'm just like you! everybody thinks I'm weird in my school( middle school) I'm 13 in 8th grade and everybody all was bully me because I can do anything that no one can do in my school.
I find it very unfortunate how a majority of people don't know that this song is originally from Wicked. All they did was make it poppish to appeal towards social media and young people. But, I'll be honest, this version is pretty good. ;)
Camille VIEL Yes, part of the melody is exactly the same, but not the whole thing. It's called "sampling" and a lot of artists do it. The song isn't "originally from Wicked." This is not the song from Wicked, but yes, the chorus uses the same melody and the title is similar. It's not a remake of the same song, it just borrows from it.
I will always come back to this song. I remember coming home from elementary school in 4th and 5th grade bumping this on my Kindle Fire🤭😭 One of Ariana's most underrated songs/features💖
I don't know why people care so much about popularity. Seriously who cares who you are or how many people like you. That isn't gonna matter today or tomorrow. I mean ultimately I have like 6 people I can truly call friends. I am happy with that and that is what matters to me.
It's really odd isn't it?! I've been made fun of my whole life by the same people since I went to school with the same kids from my Elementary, to Junior High to High school! This made it difficult to make friends with them always putting me down and turning others away from me. Popularity was very important to them for some odd reason, I only had one friend but she was popular and apparently was the person who made fun of me the most! I forgave her for this a lot because she was different when she wasn't with the popular kids. But she was a social climber and eventually stopped spending time with me. It's an odd occurrence but it happens. I loved her so much I'd still take her back as a Best Friend!
Thats a good fuckin' song. I'm not saying I'm sad about it or anything. I guess I'm spreading the horrible lesson not to trust even your closest friends. Yeah, don't listen to me people my stories a terrible excuse to not trust people.
Well actually dont trust system is a good thing dont trust society and strangers they poison drinks cakes and our favorite foods they even have gangs spies the agents and bad cops feminism is still here and i hope we all fight like we were fighting in civil right but in a peacefull way
I heard this song one day at school and I was like "This sound vaguely familiar..." then it got the chorus and I was like "THIS IS WICKED!!! THEY STOLE WICKED!!" But it's so catchy. I love both versions so much
Popular! You're gonna be popular! I'll teach you the proper ploys when you talk to boys Little ways to flirt and flounce, ooh! I'll show you what shoes to wear How to fix your hair Everything that really counts To be popular! I'll help you be popular! You'll hang with the right cohorts You'll be good at sports Know the slang you've got to know So let's start 'Cause you've got an awfully long way to go:
Dont be offended by my frank analysis think of it as personality dialysis Now that ive chosen to become a pal a sister an adviser theres nobody wiser Not when it comes to popular I know about popular And with an assist from me to be who you'll be Instead of dreary who you were.. Well are Theres nothing that can stop you from becoming popular lar La la la la were gonna make you popular
When I see depressing creatures With unprepossessing features I remind them on their own behalf to think of Celebrated heads of state or Especially great communicators. Did they have brains or knowledge? Don't make me laugh! They were popular! Please- It's all about popular! It's not about aptitude It's the way you're viewed So it's very shrewd to be Very very popular Like me!
People have been doing that from the start for as long as there has been music videos on youtube people were doing that and if not that then they be lying bout dead loved ones to get pity likes
i love this song so much! I know it's an adaption of wicked's popular, but people needa stop hating on this song. it's catchy, upbeat, and the lyrics are good.
I actually first discovered this song when I was listening to MIKA's Lollipop and the fact that Arianna Grande was featured intrigued my nine-year-old self even more. I was obsessed with this song back then. I was brought back to this amazing tune when I got into Broadway musicals this year (I realized that a part was from Wicked.) Ahh... Nostalgia...
+Victorian Babe racism is discriminating against someone due to the color of their skin or their nationality. so yes, you can be racist towards white people, it's just not as common as racism towards other skin colors.
Victorian Babe Yea... I lived in an aboriginal town and I got bullied in school for being white and dealt with racism in that town. White people deal with racism as well kiddo.
Honestly this song is from a long time ago and I been listening. It never gets old I swear! Babies born in 2018 and above will never understand true music.
Gonna be honest, I put off listening to this song for a long time because I thought it could never measure up to the original. But MIKA and Ariana bring something different to the song, putting a new twist on it. It helps that this song isn't trying to match the theme of the Wicked version, and that these two both have wonderful voices. Now I can't stop listening to it :'D
I'm in my last few years of high school and thank god I'll be away and done with popular kids! Right! You popular kids are now the ones that clean the toilets and you clean my shit :)
+Kar Yeng Benjamin right! I am no where near popular (probably considered a geek or outcast) and I know that it all pay off one day, even if I have to face tears right now
angelwingsxoxo just believe we can do it and work hard and finally out from popular kids basking in their popular ness no moooore! I mean I'm not like top popular but I'm not loserish unpopular, I'm more between normal and top popular but still I wouldn't consider myself totally popular.. Can't wait to see popular people I once knew, cleaning toilets and stuff later in life 😂
Amia Reid Oh. That makes me kind of sad (just to be clear, I meant Wicked as in the Broadway show). Even though I've never seen it, I can tell that this song was inspired by the song Popular from the show (admittedly, the only reason I can tell is because I've been listening to the Wicked songs on RU-vid over and over). I like the Wicked Songs.
Thesims3rocks1 Yay :) *Me when singing this song:* You were singing all the songs I don't know But now you're in the front row Because my song is popular. Popular I know about popular. I'll teach you the proper poise When you talk to boys *Wait, wrong song.* (wrong verse too, actually)
Guys! Stop arguing about whether 'Popular' is better in wicked or as a pop song. The two are apples an oranges to each other. Broadway and pop music cant be compared because they're very different things. Broadway songs are dialogue that you sing. You have to know the story an you have to see the scene and all the ones before it to properly understand it. Pop songs you can go into not knowing a single thing about the artist or the song and you still understand them. The only thing that Broadway and pop songs have in common is that they're sung. They both have their purposes in _very_ different settings, so there's no sense in saying you like one better than the other. If you can't interchange them, don't compare them. You also can't compare the singing. The Wicked version is done after a dancing scene and while running around the stage if you want to compare the live version, and the soundtrack, while done in a studio, has no effects added so it stays true to the stage version. The pop version has autotune and voice effects. There's no way to compare the two, so *_stop trying_* and enjoy each song for *_different reasons_* instead of getting n a pissing match over whether the wicked version or the op version is better
Wicked version is better. End of story. You can't say anything about the singing being flaud because there's a soundtrack where you can hear the song perfectly. These people shouldn't have copied just because they're not creative enough to write more originals before their career is over....
The Mangle™ Stop!! I agree that I personally enjoy listening to the Wicked version more than this and it holds a special place in my heart since I was practically raised from age five on the Wicked set from the day it opened because my dad's on the lighting crew. I can't deny that I love it every time I hear it, and it still makes me laugh after thousands and thousands of performances, but it isn't "better", it's "more enjoyable to me (and obviously you)". Broadway and pop music aren't the same; one is a story and the other a song that's not in any sort of context. It's like trying to decide if you like eating your favorite food or drinking your favorite drink. You like them both for different reasons and you shouldn't want or have to choose between them. You have to respect both for what they are: different things. Copying (in this case, it's not even copying, it's sampling) is considered the biggest show of flattery. I agree that they should've been more creative and they shouldn't have taken a masterpiece off the Broadway stage and made it into a song that loses all meaning and they should've focused on an original piece, they obviously felt that a few passages from the song had a nice tune and wanted them in their song. Leave them be, artists do it all the time
Unicorn Films I know, it sucks that they do. I tried arguing with some of my friends about it and all they said is to think of it as a parody. I'm guessing that's a better way to go about it. By any means I was being prick, sorry....
this song isn't even close the the Broadway one. all this song did was take the rhythm of the chorus and change some of the words. in my personal opinion I would rather jam to the Broadway one. if they had chosen a different chorus line beat it would have been good. you have to remember that Wicked has been on of the best broadway shows for like ever. so if you touch a part of a song it has to be amazing and this just was like shmur
Ok...I really belive that this song describes perfectlly my school! In my school the 7th and 8th graders are so bad with the 5th and 6th graders! :( Unfortunatlly, we goatta live with 'em every single day,but this song is an helpfully way for us to survive! Thanks Mika and Ariana for this song! We 5th and 6th graders are happy when we hear this song!!! Love U!
Aw, stay strong. Ignore all the bullies and don't show them that you get sad because of them. Whenever they tell you something, just laugh at it... because then they will see that you don't care and they will stop. Show them that you're strong, because it gets better through time. Ignore them, smile, laugh it off, and enjoy your life! :) Good luck! ♥
Being bullied takes over your life, I know from experience, but in hindsight, I learnt how to deal with it the hard way and, horrid as it is, its the best way. All I can say is don't try witty comebacks if you're not good at them, but don't put up with crap either, the next time they put you down, keep eye contact and look down on them, make them feel stupid, because they are. Actions speak louder than words and in the end that's what worked for me, whenever I couldn't look at them they had power over me, but when I looked, I saw how pathetic they were, you don't need to do anything else. Hope this helps x
I found this song about 3 years ago when I was looking through RU-vid for the song from wicked 'popular' and fell in love with Mika's music and listen to it everyday. I love Ari too, but Mika still is my idol
