They are a sweet and protective dog. I had one mixed with a black lab. Her hair was fuzzy and the same face as Mika. Beautiful and wonderful dogs!!

Just a tip for the pup. This misfortune happened to my best friend's pup. Rawhide bones can be bad for the dogs. It can expand and wrap around a dog's intestines during digestion. Rawhide is garbage.

American Akitas of the coolest dogs ever

Funny, we adopted a white German Shepherd after our other Akita died, then got a another female Akita. She looks the same. She is a Mariah Akita from Indianapolis. Yours is so cute. I said I'd never get another Akita after this one because I love her so much that she could never be replaced. The best dog training book is Brenda Alloff's book Dogs with Agression.

Your Akita, Mika, is absolutely beautiful! I had an Akita for 15 years and she was absolutely the best friend that I could ever have had! Koda, my Akita's name, brought joy to our family each and every day of her life! She was just a wonderful friend, caring and loving family member who I still miss to this day! Your Mika reminds me of Koda in her temperament and body language so I am sure you two are going to have a caring, loving and wonderful member of your family for many, many more years to come! I had an Akita for almost 15 years, she looked like your dog so much, I got a tear in my eye from missing her much.

A beautiful breed. We have an akita ourselves; a beautiful boy named Bounty. He's anxious towards other dogs and strangers, and he generally keeps to himself around the house, but he's part of the family. I'm a bit worried for him though...He's turning 9 in a few months, and while the breed can live for a decently long time by dog standards, he's also prone to seizures, so I worry that one day he'll have a seizure and his heart won't be able to take it... I know that loss is expected, especially among species with shorter lifespans than our own, but it still makes me sad to think that one day Bounty won't be around anymore...

She’s a sweetheart, there is no dog as awesome as an Akita, in my opinion, mine is almost 3 years old, and I absolutely adore him! They have a personality & a nature about them that just attracts you, and really bonds you to them😊

I remember when we brought our very own dark baked little loaf home, she hid under my chair and stared at everyone just working out everything.

Just a tip: when leaving, don't make a fuzz about it. Dog doesn't care if you kiss him or even say a word to him when leaving, more the other way around, he will miss you even more after close contact before leaving. I would give him a (safe) treat and go before he eats it. I use dried fish.

They both look exactly like mine... l have two American Akitas brown with white & two all-white Japanese Akitas love my 4 dogs’ my American Akitas names are” Miyagi” & Yuki” my Japanese Akitas are “Akahana” which means :red rose 🌹 in Japanese & “Sakura” means:Japanese Cherry blossom 🌸

Apologies if this has already been answered but can you give me an honest run down on the shedding situation in your experience? I’ve read they shed heavily two times per year when they “blow out” their undercut but how is it the rest of the year? Do they shed still all year round or none at all between these blowouts?

Please correct your dog when she barks at the neighbors outside. Barking is nuisance noise. Akitas need lots of training, don't usually bark much but their bark is loud and deep. It travels. My Akita only barks when she senses danger because I trained her well. Barking and whining is not desirable behavior in dogs, period.

Named Yoshi .Long story short He was My Fur Kid ./ Best Friend / Bed Buddy / my Singing buddy / I,ve talked to my fur kids like ppl / taughted him to say a few words / He was My World / He was Treated with Highly Respect / he slept with me in bed , & Just Nov,12,2022 sometime in middle of Nite he Laid his head on my belly witch he never done b4 then as it came to morning around 7:ish am I woke up to do our morning routine. & 🥺🥺🥺😢😢😢😢😭 Found that he was not acting Right .so we Rushed him to Hospial . DR.said his blood work was great / Heart beats sounded great / other things they did was great So we all look looked at each other & Dr said it has to be neurological / So she suggested we take him to a neurologist ,I said let me try him on these meds ur putting him on . ,but in the back of my mind I've already figured it out . & That was a Monday morning around 11:30 am i was at hospital by the time i got back home around 2:00 pm he had gotten worse . That My Loving Sweetheat 🐾🐾😭😭😭😭 Had a Stroke & was paralyzed on his left Side that Quick 💔💔💔💔😖😖😢😢😞😞😞😞😞😞 He Could not stand / Eat / drink / he was not in his right mind / Believe me he was trying his hardest to beat this evil .thing that did this to him so. I told him.YoYo u have to lay down ur hurting urself so I more less had to make a rounded area for him to be comfortable. Until Tuesday morning & I Hate to make The ( FREAKING ,WORSE DECISION) In my Life. I was. SO Broken .I was So Lost I was so Devasted, But 🙏God 🙏 told me Don't let him suffer .& I just wanted to come through the phone ,& Snatch up ur Little Mika wat a Precious. Akita you Have . Awesome,brilliant bread. Recently lost my two,down to age fourteen years old. Really miss them. We now have 🔔 bell she is now sixteen weeks old very much a hand full. Would recommend keeping her on long leash they can be head strong, can be difficult to get back if chasing another dog or wildlife. Enjoy many years ahead of you. Good luck. 🧡

Cute puppy she was. But somewhere in this dog's bloodlines she is not a purebred. She's got like Belgian Malinois in her. Her tail skinny, coat too thin, she's light, and bone mass much too small.

I don't know much about dogs but in 30 year of my life I had only one dog at the age of 15 and he lived with me 5 years ....and that was an akita or haskita I am not confirmed about it ... after his death in age of 6 just he left his tearful memories for me.... I don't think i would be able to have another dog in my life .... he was first and I think will be last ❤👈 .... Akitas are best ❤✌

American Akitas were not bred in US despite their name, here's the short story. During the WWII, the Japanese military government prohibited people from having dogs except the ones potentially be used for military duties, so the German Shepherd mix was allowed. Many Akita and GS mixed breed were produced. At the end of the war, the US GIs looked for Akita, in big part because of Helen Keller's effort to popularize the breed, she spoke out loud every opportunities she got how much she loved her Akita. She owned many dogs of different kinds because of her blindness, any dog would have helped. The problem was that the GIs didn't know what Akita looks like nor did they even care. They picked up the mixed breed happily because they were bigger and more available than Japanese pure bred Akitas. By looking at the photos, the dogs Helen Keller had(she had two in sequence, one had died prematurely) weren't even pure breed Akitas either(but they seemed to have the same personality of Akita). That resulted in far more of Mixed breed Akitas(black masked Akita) in US than pure bred Japanese Akitas. That's the reason why people start calling them American Akita, even though the breed wasn't created in US.
