"Stockholm is a city that I love, but it is scaring me at the same time. And I don't feel really safe in the city since a couple of years. Why? I've been robbed a couple of times, knife and gun."
Mikael should have just said: "Plunging into the deepest void departed shell left drained BEHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDD!!!" Faces would have melted... Or he could just continue driving his Volvo. :)
Yeah very true, since we are so used to safety and peace we get really affected when something bad happends to us. Like for example I know a girl that had to move out of her house because someone had broken into her house. She couldn´t stand that house anymore because she knew a stranger had been there. It´s really weird and interesting how big of a contrast it can be depending which part of the world you are from.
I’ve never been robbed or mugged but I was once threatened by a drunk guy with a glass bottle on a bus in the middle of the day.. (I live in England) and now I take the 40 minute walk to and from work.
Well thats interesting. In brazil where violence and robbery is normal we grow comfortable with the possibility of being robbed, and though stressful, not really traumatizing. Interesting to see that europeans kinda take safety for granted and such events leave big emotional traumas.
I feel this way about Chicago. I live about an hour outside the city and have yet to go there for a concert etc since pandemic eased up; too many carjackings, shootings etc happening all over town w no regard for humanity. I've driven further to catch tours that pass through Chi merely bc I worry about getting shot/ robbed/both.
It's NOT safe, too many immigrants ruining it. They need to clean it up, deport these foreigners NOW. If I ever encounter one who's even slightly annoying me, he will be eliminated.
I can totally relate to what he's saying about "scanning for possible trouble makers." When I'm in public with my girlfriend, I'm constantly on the lookout, but when I ask her if she noticed the "potential creep," she shrugs. Same with my mom, lol. I sometimes wonder if it's because I'm male, and that it's in my genes...
Everyone who I know from Stockholm or have lived in Stockholm are telling the same. They are telling that example Prague (where I live) is so much more safer in every aspect and I am like "seriously?" but it seems that is the case.
I am not blaming or judging him. It just happens that this interview made me realize that people around the world have different reactions too things we may consider banal in other parts of the world.
How came, that being a superstar he can't afford to use an own chauffeaur-driven car? (Once a guy wanted to rob me on the public bus, but I beat him down. -- Unfortunately he lives here in the getto, so I bump into him sometimes during walking: since I work in the late shift, I also came across him face to face in the night on the street... Knowing, that I haven't got any other choice, I try to live comfortable with the story, but it's hard, even when I'm not that noble-minded person as Mikael.)
What little do *I* know? Stockholm is heaven compared to the city I live in. I mean, I love Sao Paulo, its my land, but the crime rate here must be twenty times larger than Stockholm. I'm not saying you don't have crimes in there, but "don't feel safe"? Come on, look at other places in this world, Sweden is a walk in the park.
Well you can't blame him can you? If you're not used to something how can you expect it to not leave emotional trauma? If you were to have to rock climb a 200 metre rock face you'd be shitting it cause you wouldn't be comfortable with it. Mikael obviously isn't comfortable with it cause... ya know; he doesn't get robbed all the time. Two times as he says :)
Beetteer safe than soooorry and here I am, losing everything again. I never had to wooory about the game, I never win I never lose, I'm not plaaying at all! Nightingale - Better safe than sorry (Dan swanös band for those who do not know, go check em out!!)
What little you know. Stockholm is like any larger city in Europe. And does it matter if you are robbed in Stockholm or Paris? Same shit, and i fully understand his fear.
My wife; like she could sit down next to a fuckin serial killer. and I'm like: are you crazy, what de fuck you doing?!. Love it when 'e says that part lol
Swedish Robber #1: Hey, look it's Mikael Akerfeldt. Swedish Robber #2: Man, I love his music. Swedish Robber #1: Yeah, me too... Let's rob that nigga, man! Swedish Robber #2: Right on.
I see indevocation, i see how death is fair, i see decapitation, in the wake of pain, Breeding Death! Would have been weird to sing Eaten infront of a robber. Seriously though, glad he wasn`t hurt. Perfect solution, a guy with long black wavey curled hair, 6"6 in height, scary looking guy with camo pants and giant Cannibal Corpse Butchered At Birth shirt, wonder if it had made a difference xD
This is why I always carry a gun and why I train with one. The person who tries to inflict violence on me or my family better be ready to deal with someone who trains methodically and rigorously to shoot fast and true. I do feel for Mikael. I know without a doubt how demoralizing these experiences would be.
I carry granades on trains in case someone robs me. If I could I would have a rocket launcher too. No one will fuck with my awesome firepower. There is no such thing as overkill. We all need deadly weapons to protect ourselves. Oscar Postorius.
***** wow, that's very specific. Did that happen to you and your family? I fortunately live in a country where gun laws are very strict and violent crime is low. It must be tough to only feel safe when armed. Maybe you should think about moving.
the artist formally known as craig lastname There is nothing fortunate about having the fundamental right of self defense taken from you by an over reaching government. Criminals don't need guns to victimize you. What would you do if you were attacked by someone with a knife or a hammer? Maybe you're a karate champion or maybe you think it only happens to other people.
torreyintahoe Normally I would agree with you about governments taking peoples rights away, but in this case, in the country I live in, the strong gun laws work, i have never seen a gun that wasn't in the possession of police. I have been fairly fortunate in regards to being physically attacted (excluding schoolyard bullying), and the few times it came close, I have managed to flee or talk my way out of it. It seems that you have been less fortunate going by your original post, apologies for my sarcastic reply to it.
Michaels robbing incident shaped him to how we we now know him. He wouldn't have been the same artist without it. I think that is worth a like, don't you?
@lethalcurrent Lol ok first of all, I see you listen to a lot of Black Metal. I don't know if you follow or support the ideology within it but, a lot of it is considered Anti-Christian well, Anti-Religion in general, and they always attack other religious groups in a racial and ideological way. Now my question is, do you approve the message of the music. You know like burning Churches and being Anti-Semitic?
@EITrollo Haha my bad, I see you are just trolling. You posted the same comment 2 weeks ago as well. You need to learn how to troll, you are doing it all wrong. 0/10 nice attempt.
@Hibria619 lol minding your own business. That's why you are posting on YT. And I'm offended because it is people like you that perpetuate negative stereotypes. It's the old innocent until proven guilty adage. I don't respect their or any religion, but I respect people and don't think we should judge them in such a fashion.
Careful, my friend. Debating over the nationality/race/origin of criminals is a meaningless AND dangerous exercise. A criminal is a criminal, period. If you want to go that way, of pointing out their race, that will only lead to hatred, discrimination and all those nice things that happened in Germany in the late 30s.
@EITrollo stop being pretentious. most opeth fans like the album. if you don't like it, fair enough, no need to generalise, or insult them in front of other opeth fans. keep it to yourself. "common sense"? what? it's not common sense when it comes to art. go away.
