I think being a striker isn't Reo's ego, he doesnt feel excitement for scoring goals but excitement for helping Nagi, I think he doesn't have the ego to be a striker but has a dream to win the world cup with Nagi.

To be fair to Reo, he's way better as a midfielder. His versatility is better served as a midfielder. As we've seen so far, the best strikers have the best scoring weapons, which Reo doesn't have. More so, striker roles in Blue Lock seem more like specialist roles with very specific thinking patterns to score. Thus, Reo doesn't have an absolute ability capable of turning zero into one. I think his growth would actually be stunted if he were to focus on being a striker. For example, let's say he copies Bachira's freestyle dribbling. He'd be easier to stop since he can only produce a near-perfect imitation. Worse off, it'd be harder for him to build the instinctive chemical reactions to get him into scoring positions the way Bachira does because Chameleon requires a lot more thought to adapt to scenarios (we've seen him enter monologues each time he's about to use a skill). In essence, it'd be harder for Reo to enter FLOW since he'd need to constantly shift abilities to adapt to situations. If he were to somehow master Chameleon's constant flux of abilities to do it by reflex, then he might have a chance. But then again, since he won't be able to achieve perfect execution of these abilities, it'd still be a second rate FLOW prone to mistakes. I think saying Reo is a waste of potential is like saying Sae is a waste of potential. The man just realised that there are better strikers out there. For example, Nagi is already a better striker without even trying. And you can only imagine how many great strikers Sae had to see to come back and tell Rin, "It turns out there are a lot of very good strikers out there, so I'm going to become the best midfielder." It's already been established that without a special skill, Meta-Vision is more suited to midfield [because of a wider perspective of the field based on the position itself]. Just look at how much work Isagi puts just to get into a position to use his direct shot (which is a meh special skill, btw) and how many times he gets blocked. He ends up becoming the "most dangerous" player on the pitch by doing things that are, in essence, midfield things. Reo would struggle to score as much as he can only use 99% of those skill shots at best. But in midfield, combining Chameleon and Meta-Vision allows him a lot more options to control the field (just look at what Sae was doing in the U20 match BY HIMSELF) way better than if he were a striker. I think becoming the best all-rounder midfielder makes him way more dangerous than if he were to be a striker. At best, he'd be an offensive midfielder. In my opinion, Reo's best "hidden" weapon as a versatile player is the ability to level up other players directly or indirectly (something that Rin used to do, too). He's able to balance a team's offence and defence whilst letting teammates use their best plays. We see this with Nagi and Zantetsu since Team V days, Chigiri and Kunigami in the 2nd selection, heck even Shidou chose him over Kunigami who, in Shidou's words, "didn't even help him level up", and in the U20 game. His best trait is his dedication to his strikers. Unfortunately, that would work against him if he were a striker. You can't coach the selfish ego that players like Rin, Shidou, Isagi, Barou, Nagi, etc, into a player. Even Kunigami had to throw away his hero ego (a good egoism for a striker, too) just to survive in Blue Lock. Reo would a) have to cultivate a very strong goal-based ego [an ego beyond winning the World Cup, which is already the pinnacle of desire for a football player] and b) abandon Chameleon basically since it's based on his ego to "change into anything" to survive [again which is an ability suited to midfield, because, like we've seen, strikers are quite the specialist role in Blue Lock]. If he were to focus on being a striker with half-baked egos like that, he'd become a sort of higher form of Sendou Shuto, the former Japan U20 striker, being better at almost everything else than scoring

@ietrasst7515

@@Prometheus_293well, reo wouldn't be able to gain Shidou's penalty box awareness nor Barou's predator eyes, as they're skills specialized for Shidou/Barou only attainable under specific circumstances/talent. Reo only acquired Meta Vision, not because he copied Isagi doing it (he can only copy things he knows consciously, as far as we're aware), but because he already had amazing football IQ, predominantly displayed by how he guided teams. Predator Eye / Penalty Box Awareness are just not things he'd be able to acquire, unless he was specifically taught how to use it. cool idea tho lol

I really don’t get the waste of talent, yes Reo grew as a character and gained his confidence back, but there was one thing he lacked and it was the most important thing to have in blue lock, an EGO. EGO is not about being the best solo everyone plays for myself ideology, everyone in the community misses the point. Ego is what gets your blood pumping, what you enjoy, for ex Chigiri’s goal is to be the best striker but his EGO is all about outrunning people in the field with his speed. It’s nothing about scoring goals but following what you are passionate. In episode Nagi we see that Reo enjoys playing with Nagi, so it’s obvious that his EGO is to create the greatest striker with his plays, not so different from Ego Jinpachi EGO of creating the best striker. And if you still aren’t satisfied with my take in EGO, then let’s talk about his “wasted potential” he awoken Metavision the second he started playing with Nagi, or I would say feeding his EGO. How is that wasted? He is not the same as past REO, he now has the confidence and individual skill to be a monster of a player, but most importantly he gained his EGO. Also who is saying that he is caping himself after playing with Nagi? Striker mode is still there, His chameleon style is still there. You think Reo is stupid or the author to be like “yeah I developed Reo’s individual skill just to waste it, in fact he won’t grow as a character anymore” this is my gripe with the Blue lock content creators, either they just recap moments of the manga, or never see in between the lines of the story.

I don't like when people try to force roles onto other people. Just like with people saying Isagi should be a midfielder and with people saying Reo should be a self reliant striker. Just because you have the skills to fulfill a role, doesn't mean you can't use them to excel at a different role. Reo's gateway to flow is proving that Nagi has the potential to be the best striker. In years of first being a soccer player and even after switching to volleyball, people tried to make me switch positions because of what they felt was best for me. But in the end what's best for my improvement is the role that excites me the most and makes me want to keep improving.

Reo isn't a waste of potential He was introduced with limited potential from the beginning. People saw copy ability and immediately thought of the biggest hax machine, Kise Ryouta Reo himself states that he isn't all that talented which is why he's so hung up on Nagi with Nagi's immense talent. The best he could manage was to imitate those with talent and imitations just cannot compare to the originals. Copying is just not a good ability unless you are Ryouta and can perfectly copy people at a 1 to 1 likeness
@remaniant
@remaniant Год назад
Reo never said he’s not that talented lol, he’s the biggest prodigy in the story other than Loki and Nagi, I mean he literally started around the same time as Nagi lol. He just got wrapped up with only focusing on Nagi, so he didn’t really work on his own skills. And copying is a great skill, but like everything he just needs to work on it. He wasn’t introduced with limited potential, he was introduced as someone that never played for himself but for someone else, being Nagi.
@colonelcider8292
@colonelcider8292 Год назад
@remaniant the whole reason he's so obsessed with Nagi is because of how talented Nagi is compared to him. Chapter 23 Reo refers to Nagi as one chosen by football. Never referring to himself as one cause he's not. Constantly, we have character being named as geniuses, but Reo is not one. There are more than a few characters with more talents and potential greater than Reo's. His ability/talent is to copy, but that just means he's an imitation of better players as he doesn't posses the unique talents to make the most of their skills. Copy is the most overrated ability as everyone assumes it's a perfect copy when it clearly isn't. Unlike other manga/anime, Blue Lock doesn't even try to pretend this is the case. Reo could copy Kaiser Impact. It's not going to be half as effective as Kaiser's version as Kaiser has his natural deposition of the fastest swing speed. Reo could copy Chigiri's mach cut in, but it won't be as effective as the original as he's not nearly as fast as Chigiri. Reo could copy Bachira's dribbling technique, but Reo isn't nearly as creative or as flexible as Bachira, so his dribbling wouldn't be as good. Reo could copy Isagi's off the ball movements and direct shot, but without Isagi's brain and playmaking, then those skills won't flourish. Reo is the best player out of a bad bunch, but when his company is the best in the series, he can not match up to them. Reo's skill ceiling is one of the smallest in the whole series

I wholeheartedly agree that all of reo's potential and development as a striker got completely thrown out the window when he teamed back up with nagi. Reo even said that he was gonna lead japan to winning the u-20 world cup at the start of the series, but then he changed it to just winning the world cup with nagi. It's honestly no different to when someone goes back to an ex that was holding them back. Reo will most definitely take up an offensive midfielder position, but all he'll really be is a copy of other great midfielders like sae, and you can never beat the original. It honestly made me dislike reo and nagi's characters a little bit when they teamed back up since they're so reliant on each other. That being said i still do think they're both great players, but it's pretty frustrating to see their potential just go down the drain

Then again, that’d probably make him too op for a side character and the author (with utmost relatability) loves Nagi too much to deny him the insane offensive power boost that would be Reo amping up Nagi’s goals with metavision and chameleon mode. Still, I can’t imagine Reo and Nagi’s partnership/dependency to survive in a series that exemplifies the importance of egocentrism. Worries me. Just like in 2nd selection Reo is moving forward as a nice piece of a super balanced team while Isagi is heel bent on being the best. Same goes for the BM vs MC match. As much as I simp for Isagi Reo was on pace to obliterate him in their personal rivalry before his regression. He was developing a shot from Isagi’s ideal striker (Rin) with Sae’s elite dribbling moves (One of Isagi’s biggest challenging areas) but he throws that away while Isagi rips through their imagination. Since the egoist league began everyone has complained about BM winning but that’s just A byproduct of Isagi’s football style playing out in real time. He is the character that has best embodied Ego’s ideal so the storytelling follows.
