Mike "Take The Wall Down" Holmes. Every time Mike and his crew fix a bad build 10 more sketchy contractors are born😂 God bless him and the work he does

I always enjoy his shows. He does do it right, but, his right is usually a good 30% more expensive. He does show us new products and ways of building which I really like

Mike greatest asset is knowing how to fix it when done wrong

It really isn't 30% more expensive when you have to do it twice. Wasted 100% of the first attempt that ended up in a dumpster.

I've been hoping this one would get posted, one of the few episodes where the owner talks about having to deal with the City of Toronto Also you can see the address at one point near the beginning, still the same owner and you can see pictures of this studio there pretty much the same

The only problem was part of the settlement was to bring back the same contractor to fix the screw-ups. Like the man said he's not going to do a good job for him.

That curbing to get in and out of the garage would kill me, I would be bottoming out going in and out. But the rest of the garage is spot on.

I'd like to have heard the city permit officer explain no drywall in the garage thing. I wonder how big a web he tried to spin.

Yeah genius, they're going to go back in time 20 years and redo the audio in the editing room.

That music track is way too loud. I recommend using auto ducking to automatically adjust the music volume when someone is talking. It’s very distracting.

You realize this is a 20-ish years old episode, right?
@FuzzeeDee
@FuzzeeDee 7 дней назад
@@theloredaughter I had thought they had re edited it to go from 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9. That early on the episodes were all done that old resolution. I’m a video editor by trade, so I can see the tell tale signs of a re edit.
@electronixTech

I was thinking the same thing. I have good hearing and it was annoying to hear a non-stop too loud background track that interferes with the voice track.
@electronixTech
@electronixTech 7 дней назад
@@FuzzeeDee You're right, it is a re-edit. The TV programs didn't have non-stop music tracks that are like 50 percent of the voice volume.

That's such a sham all of that plywood wasted by a contractor who had no clue on what he was doing other than taking this homeowner to the bank cha ching

This would have been a perfect fix for spray foam in the roof. Had he been using it at the time. On the audio issue, that was like that in the original. Blame the original sound mixer.

I get that the contractor/builder was incompetent and/or a scammer, but what about the building inspectors? How did these things pass inspection?
@kanakarideshare288

Whoever did the editing needs to really turn down the music audio because it overpowers the vocal

You can tell this is old, now they probably wouldn't have aired the lead-in bit about how no man cares about the house, they just want a giant garage. It's not terrible, but it definitely reads a little cringey now.
@Forced2DoThis1
@Forced2DoThis1 7 дней назад
So....The opinion of the "guy" being interviewed who wanted the big garage that every "guy" wants a big garage, somehow translates to "man" for you? I also don't see them not following the formula of doing and airing the interviews/grievances with the clients too often even in later episodes of the various shows. 🤔

First of all thats not a garage its a shed garages are typically attached to the house especially in places where its colder but this is Mike and he doesnt like attached garages
@QuadTAZ
@QuadTAZ 7 дней назад
Whats the threshold for garage vs shed? Its a very big shed or a small garage.
@delyn13
@delyn13 7 дней назад
@@QuadTAZ garages are for cars to be stored in cold climate and you should be able to walk into your house from the garage and a shed is for tools etc its small like the one Mike built you could never be able to park a car in what he built

@kimberlyokeeffe5360 7 дней назад
A garage verses a shed probably depends. It might be that you've only seen houses with attached garages where you live. My house was built in the horse & buggy days and the garage is a separate building. I also live in New England where is gets colder. I have turned the back half of the garage into a small studio for my hobby so what the building was called in this episode is true.

My Dad bought a property in SW Washington state: a triplex, every unit had its own attached garage. In a senior complex, his garage was drywalled, had space for 2 cars & upper cabinets in front of the cars + upper & lower cabinets to the far right with a workshop counter. There was a man door on the left that was a 6' walkway to the covered front porch. He loved his manly space to putter in.
@theloredaughter
@theloredaughter 7 дней назад
Mike has done plenty of attached garage repairs. Stand-alone garages are just cheaper to insure for the same reason Mike frequently cites in his repairs: off-gassing & fire hazard. If the structure is separate from the house, the insurance companies like that.
