Mike Daly from EMNZ shows how to expand EM1 in large volumes to make 200L and 1000L of ready to use EM inoculant. For more information on EM visit www.emnz.co.nz
Mike, late to the party here but if still answering questions: is the mixed product more powerful and more effective than just the EM-1 itself, or the same power but just stretches a LOT longer? EM-1 does great by itself for small areas but gets expensive if use for bigger areas. thank you. Also, if minerals added to mixture for extra potency, will this create too high of a ph for it to ferment? Good vid. Did not see you show a way for air to escape the containers?
Aloha. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. Im making more em1 and im interested in using a fish bubbler to speed up its duplication. Is it a wise decision?

Nice vids. Is it possible to use sugar syrup instead of molasses? Thanks
hi! great video! would like to ask after expanding the EM1 with molasses, can it count as concentrated EM1? or after the expansion, you need to use it for 30-60 days? thank you!
Hi There Mike, I am wondering how long will this brew last once it is "finished" expanding? I have been reading that it should be used within 60 days but also that it can last up to 12 months. Would be great if you can help to clarify. Thanks
Thanks - I did understand this due to the limitation of available "food" for the microbes. But what has me confused and reason for asking, is the activated/expanded product being referred to as EM RTU. When reading on your site i see "EM Soil and Crop is a ready to use product - EM RTU?" and looks to have a shelf life of up to 6 months. If activated/expanded product = EM RTU, and Soil and Crop is referred to as EM RTU, why does the EM soil and crop last much longer? "EM 1 products e.g. Soil & Crop, Environment and Garden it is 6 months and for our EM Ready to use product it is 1 month." I may be a little confused with the way you refer to your products.
hi is it possible to keep some of that expanded EM1 to keep making more lots in the future and not have to buy more EM1, just like when making natural bread? also, how do you apply it in the plants, is it better applied in leaves or soil? and how often should i use it during the year? thanks
Yes the Indian Government is also manufacturing a similar product known as Waste Decomposer. One can search this on internet. It doesn't require the mother culture again nd again.U can expand the culture using water nd jaggery or molaisis
Thanks for the message Jessica, 3.6 is correct and the ideal zone being 3.4-3.8.This is where the microbes in EM will happily sit in relative dormancy before they are applied.
Ahh okay thanks. I think possibly I was thinking of aerobic bacteria as I just read recently that the bacteria you are using is anaerobic hence why there is no air stone needed to make up a tea. I am running hydroponics so I think a beneficial aerobic bacteria would suit my plants due to the fact i aerate the hydro reservoirs. They are not grown in soil so I will be inoculating the system frequently. I guess this is more suitable for dirt grown plants.
Hi Jessica, The Microbes in EM are facultative which means they operate in both aerobic and anaerobic environments. I would definitely recommend EM for hydroponics we have had great success in this area.
for 200 liters of container, did you say 2 liters of Molasses and EM1 or 10 liters of Molasses and EM1? After 7 days of expanding EM1, how much milliliters do you mix in 1 liter of water? Please reply.
20-1 so for 200L you would be looking to add 10L of EM and 10L of Molasses. Once you have expanded you EM1 generally for foliar applications we recommended a 1/100 dilution (so 10 milliliters to answer your question).
Thank you for your great idea and sharing your knowledge. I am doing it right now... expanding my EM1. I will apply this to my poultry farm to minimize flies and foul odor. If this works, you have save me loads of money on vitamins and pesticides.
For expanding EM1 the conventional ratio is 20::1 meaning 20 liters of Water for 1 liter of EM1 and Molasses (EM1 =0.5 L and Molasses =0.5L). In some areas in South East Asia, the expanding ratio is 20 L of Water for 1 L of EM1 and 1L of Molasses. Once expanded within 7 days of incubation, the dilution ratio for foliar application is 100:1 meaning 100 L of Water for 1L of EM solution ready to use.
