Peter Hitchens has been right from day 1... i'v followed everything he has written …… he knows its all going to come home to roost!

The wife is a ward sister in a major hospital and she says her life has never been better. She has more staff and doctors and in many cases fewer patients. It's tough working on dedicated COVID wards but no worse than the normal day to day stuff that they have to cope with. Add to this empty GP surgeries, wards that are closed, vastly reduced numbers in A&E and 2 brand new Nightingale hospitals build specifically for this that are EMPTY. There has been a massive overreaction to this thanks to the media hysteria that the government has been all to happy to buy into

To lockdown the country because the NHS might be overwhelmed is ridiculous. Surely it would have been better to protect those who are at risk from the virus and let everyone else carry on as normal.

I came here to listen to Hitchens, not Graham.

Im thrilled Mike has not had his lifestyle, income etc changed and he will be the first to ask questions conveniently after the event -ive lost 40 k since this started , and there are numerous people who have suffered worse and will never recover -if someone loses their job, savings and house and announces they thought the lockdown was a great idea fine , not smug middle class radio personalities -as for the reference to Japan he is talking crap , 13000 cases out of 127 million , 3500 in Tokyo in a city 3 times the population of London and much more densely populated and 360 deaths with the only restriction being the closure of schools against an estimate of , wait for it, 400000 by the "experts " , sounds familiar ? -never discussed by the mainstream media despite being the third largest economy in the world , and 2500 dead in Sweden total not in a day -why start quoting figures and then start making them up ? There should also be the question as to why we are furloughing the staff of serial tax avoiders like Phillip Green who are happy to, as the famous phrase goes, "privatise gains (like the 300 million tax saved on the dividend to his wife in Monaco ) and socialise the losses " while plebs like me cannot claim benefits if ive over 16k in savings, and presumably still work towards doling out 14 billion in foreign aid , including in the past £10 million to China during the Olympics , a country that repaid the favour by stiffing this government by supplying £16 million pounds of faulty testing equivalent-still as is very clear now its only taxpayers money not the politicians so who cares ?

If Mikes small family business was going under, or his children were starving or his mother was dying alone his opinion would be very different.

It has been interesting to watch and listen to Mike and Peter over the weeks and see how the tone and attitude towards each other has changed, especially Mike.

Peters is correct and has been from the beginning.

Mike Graham's gob hangs open 95% of the time he's not speaking.

So called essential worker so i've been on the road nearly every day regardless, the roads have been getting busier over the last 2 weeks, noticeably busier on each Monday morn than the week before. Note the busy periods are early morning and general shift change times, those working office type hours arn't going back, yet. People who can are going back to work before they go broke, who can blame them.

Peter is right. Stop this madness.

No lockdown for me since i work in a supermarket and have been doing my 36 hours a week. I guess the risk to me was worth it for all those who say we've to stay locked down. It's cool for them bleating on and clapping like fools but they still come to the shops in their millions. I can't bare these cowards. The amount of abuse and hysteria has shown me that a lot of people are just awful awful people. if i can work 36 hours a week in a supermarket i can go to the pub and the football. If you think otherwise you're off your trolley . pasted.

It’s absolute madness to think we will “be alright”. Our businesses had their best ever performances in March 2020. Thanks to the government our businesses fell off a cliff in April. We are now forced to consider having to borrow money to function which will reduce our future profits and hence the tax we can pay to the government. That assumes we even get back to where we were, which is highly unlikely. It also means we’ll probably pay our people less money which mean they will be poorer and so will the nation. All of that is set against the theory that an increase in deaths by circa 0.0001% of normal. Just INSANE. And I wonder when the class action will come against the government for all our losses. I didn’t vote for this.

That's not much of a moral dilemma unless the train is completely empty apart from the driver. Why would anyone cause the deaths of potentially hundreds of passengers in order to save two people that shouldn't have been on the track in the first place!?

Peter Hitchens spoke his mind from the start and over the period of 6 weeks more and more people have opened their eyes and minds and seen the truth. I suspect the government also realised this very early on but dug their heels in so deep that it wasn’t able to back track so quickly. There is definitely something larger at play, the WHO and there conflicting advices (which everyone should take with a grain of salt), Bill gates and his prominence, but most importantly the lack of studying the data and one sided discourse

Graham really struggling to hold his ground with an argument of “we just can’t be sure either way.” At this point, I think it is relatively safe to say the reaction was more so an overreaction considering the day to day numbers of dead and infected coming in versus the projected numbers of infected and dead given before and immediately after the shutdown began. Graham like others are going to stay absolutely convinced that whatever was done prevented massive loss of life when in reality there wasn’t much proof that there was any real chance of loss of life happening to begin with.

First casualty to the long-term health of the economy is another nail in the coffin of savings. Without a sizeable percentage of the population willing to defer gratification and be prepared to support themselves using their own resources, society suffers. When they lowered interest rates, my building society lowered its savings rate from a pathetic 1.2% to 0.25%. Why save? If inflation is running at an official rate of approximately 2%, you are affectively losing money. What a society where you punish those that try to save!
