Hoder is the real thing; bmx at it’s true core is Outsider Art. The most interesting riders ever to appear after the initial racing craze are true madmen. In other eras they would have robbed trains or juggled knives.
YES THERE WAS A HOOKER IN THE WOODS. Later fenwick jams. I’ll link a video and at the end there was a flip phone photo of rider (we remain unnamed) railing her. We got her off of Craigslist.
Such a big influence. Recently I'm back to BMX after almost 10 years of doing drugs without any control at all. The fact that he can make it throughout and still ride as he rides gives me strength to stay clean and keep training. Cheers from 🇦🇷
Loved hearing Mike talk about his troubles and his sobering up. He's right that drugs are just insane up here in Seattle right now and it's hard to see. I watched my own dad go down that road and he unfortunately didn't ever get a chance to get healthy. Hearing Mike's experience is so helpful for people feeling lost and struggling.
I was in Seattle hanging with Hoder. He was like when you going back to Montana I was now “wanna come” lol he said “yeah” I was like well let’s get some cloths for ya. He said naw let’s just go haha so I took him to my house we hung out he had no cloths, 5 dollars and his Sunday.. couple days into being there he traded a little kid his prototype Sunday for a creamsicle orange complete Sunday frame haha I dropped him off in Missoula Mt he stayed there and changed the bmx scene for ever not for his riding but for knocking out one of the band mates in Pearl Jam cause that dude paid for all the parks in MT and bikes weren’t allowed til him.. I feel like he skipped so many stories but good listen miss ya Fat Mike..
I'm literally half hour in & this is so awesome! The Mike Aitken episode really messed with me, Mike & I talk pretty regularly because I went/am going through the same shit & he's helped me out with reading material etc to help with brain stuff. This episode is just awesome! We don't hear from Hoder enough, I remember the Sunday days, the NYC videos, watching him wreck himself for crazy ass clips not knowing how bad things were for him. It's incredible how much he's battled & overcome! BMX has changed a lot, riders look after themselves a lot more these days. It's awesome to see Hoder doing so well
Mike is doing stuff for the community all the time in Seattle even though he doesn't claim the fame any skatepark in Seattle he is known and loved by all
Awesomeness!! Glad to be able to share Hoder’s story with kids out in town. We all need people to relate to and Hoder’s helping out more people than he knows. Even MORE stoked to run your parts on my whip after hearing this, much love bro!
I love hoder man he's such a good genuine dude man . I ride the S&M BTM XL and I love it and I'm glad to support him . Glad he's winning man and he's absolutely a good influence
Wolfman is my brother! I'll share this video with him and mention that Hoder mentioned him. Tim's now living in Bandon, Oregon (southern coast), has a 1 year old, and another son on the way. @pharv85
Circa: 2014 I have a memory of Hoder. One of the first days after moving to the NW I was at Lakewood skatepark (south of Tacoma). Which is a small park with a bit of T.V. (Trail vision. Thanks aitken!) Hoder made a brief appearance and did a gnarly quarter to quarter gap like it was a bunny hop. Dont know where he went after that but all I know is I was stoked after seeing it.
I got my first "real" bike for my 30th birthday a couple months ago, and I gotta hand it to the guys like Hoder that keep me motivated to ride. I never fully committed as a kid pedaling around on my Walgoose, but I'm learning to rip here and now because you guys have proven to me that I'm not too old to send it. Keep mobbin' 🤙
A lot to learn from this, Hoder is the man and this is one of my fav podcast episodes… I got another fun story in Mexico with Hoder and Hope to talk about it with him in person again jajaj maybe he never remember
Hahaha!! I'd heard a few whispers about this, rider will remain unnamed but what he said sounded fucking nutty! Can absolutely imagine Hoder battering fools but also some of it sounded so crazy!
Seen hoder at the Glen haven jam in portland or.. that day he made my top 5 favorite riders.. even as much light as this podcast shines on him.. until you watch him ride.. you just don't know how good he is.. I wanted to grab a pic with him and my son but didn't wanna bug the guy.. great dude and I'm also very proud of him straightening himself out.. respect Hoder..🤘🏼
51 on a bike since 5 never super good and I still enjoy it so much. Last question part is where the comment is from. BMX rules and thank you for doing these interviews ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mike your pedals are the best I've ridden in over a decade and I just bought a bunch of them when they were on sale. I'm the same age and it's sick to see that I'm not too old to keep riding. You slay, bruh, keep it up.
very entertaining and hilarious, loved this one. 😂 damn such a throwback, the BTM frame and El Toro. I remember being a kid and he came right after ET20 to the local bike shop and was talking about it. everyone was stokin out when his part came out. #MRB
We need Davey back in the scene, I hope u guys or Bruce get to meet up with him, I still see him every now and then around Tacoma....dude was too cold of a rider, his Shola part still one of my favs. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 For D-Watt$
@@HAUNTEDRECS yeah I seen him manualing down the middle of south Tacoma way at like 3am about a year ago, straight tweak bike, no grips no seat, spray painted....he was locked in that manual tho lol....🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Wish he would get his shit together and make a comeback
I was lucky enough to grow up riding in Brisbane around guys like Mykel Perkins, Corey Bohan, Colin Mackay, Dilleward, and Ryan Guettlar. Australian Bmx in the late 90s early 2000s was so good.
Unfortunate about the MacBook Pro. I felt bad for Ryan on that one but thanks for pressing on with the podcast. Mike's story was worth it such an inspiration. Buy the grips people.
that was so sick to listen to you talk about hidden valley and Dwyer!!!!, I grew up across the street from hidden and also went to Dwyer! I was a super grom when I discovered those jumps I didnt even know what I was looking at. i got a blue gt bmx and hit my first jump ever there
Dude so psyched to see Hoder still ripping. Super glad he sorted his shit out. I remember riding Philly with Slow Joe (RIP) and Sanchez and we ran into Hoder at Muni (probably around 2007). For those unaquainted with Philly just think of the rail that Homan manualled as his banger in Criminal Mischief. Hoder was trying the wall ride next to the Homan rail which was a thread-the-needle between the down rail and a sign I think. He almost laced it once but his foot blew off, so he tried it again. I just remember him hauling ass at this thing which is like a 20 set with a KMC 410 or Kool chain and just before he had to hop his chain snapped sending him tumbling down all twenty marble stairs. He blew his knee out and ripped a chunk out of the back of his head and I remember him saying he didn't have health insurance and wanting to bum a cigarette. The whole crew there was shocked trying to figure out how to get him to a hospital. Can't remember what ended up happening, I think he made it to the hospital, I'm pretty sure I told him he should call Jim C. and hopefully he'd help with the bill since he was a team rider. True beast and great human being!
Davey W. Is living homeless in Seattle, heard from locals just roaming around town and sometimes riding an Walmart bike , sometimes does bunny hops up and down stuff. Unfortunately an addiction what got him down living on the streets
I remember hearing tosh Townsend got into a really bad car accident, ( fatal ) and he kinda just went dark after that. I saw an edit with him surfing not long ago though.
HODER just sent me a pic back from Cali 20 ft High on a fence ride in a drainage ditch but even crazier it's not A fense it's a bunch of bars you know like the fence made out of bars biggest BAR wall ride I've ever seen in my life
