the whole album is a masterpiece (considering 82/83 was a time of Kate Bush's The Dreaming; Head Over Heels, by Cocteau Twins; Power, Corruption and Lies, New Order, Murmur, REM ; and Rain Parade, Ramones, The Fall, Bowie..... the list goes far. I love Anderson's vocals, but the voices of Maggie Reilly and Roger Chapman are pure gold.

Not really the 80s, more like 1983, 1982 and 1981 in particular. 90% of my favourite albums are from those years, but there are also some great albums from 1979 and 1978 as well like Man Machine by Kraftwerk. My favourite album of all time is Tin Drum by Japan which was released in 1981. Crises is definitely in my top 10 albums. Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics is another favourite. A new one I've just discovered from 1983 is Gang Of Four's "Hard" album. Although it's a different style of music, it's in the same spirit as Crises.

Mike Oldfield - - Crises -From Wikipedia - -Crises is the eighth studio album by English musician and songwriter Mike Oldfield, released on 27 May 1983 on Virgin Records. Oldfield started recording the album towards the end of his 1982 tour supporting his previous record, Five Miles Out. It marked a continuation of Oldfield's experimentation with more accessible music which began in the late 1970s; side one contains the 20-minute "Crises" and side two contains a collection of shorter songs which feature vocalists Maggie Reilly, Jon Anderson, and Roger Chapman. Oldfield produced Crises with drummer Simon Phillips, who also plays on the album. Crises reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart and became Oldfield's most successful record of the 1980s following the release of the single "Moonlight Shadow", which went to number one in nine countries and sold in excess of a million units. Oldfield supported the album with the Crises Tour across Europe in 1983 that featured most of the musicians that played on the album.--By the 1980s, Oldfield had shifted musical direction from the longform compositions that he had become known for throughout the previous decade, towards more commercial and straightforward rock and pop songs. By the time he had finished the 1982 world tour in support of his previous album Five Miles Out in December of that same year, Oldfield had already started work on a follow-up.[ Crises sees Oldfield explore heavy metal elements which he had been a fan of for some time and enjoyed playing. Oldfield described side one as material that he had wanted to write and perform "for personal satisfaction", while side two is "very commercial, full of singles". He added: "It's a case of keeping everybody happy."[ The North American version of Crises featured a different running order to capitalize on the commercial songs by switching the order of the sides, adding the non-album single "Mistake" as the lead track, and moving "Moonlight Shadow" to the end of its side. This North American version has not been reissued since its initial pressing. The "Moonlight Shadow" single from this album includes the rare track "Rite of Man". The album was recorded from November 1982 to April 1983 at Tilehouse Studios in Denham, Buckinghamshire, using an Ampex ATR 124 tape recorder, a Neve 8108 with Necam console and Westlake Monitors. Oldfield used a Gibson SG Junior for overdriven guitar sounds and a Fender Stratocaster for clean sounds. Tama drums were Simon Phillips' brand of choice for drums on the album; Phillips also did some production work. Oldfield makes extensive use of Oberheim and Fairlight keyboards. Asked how he recruited Chapman and Anderson in an interview, Oldfield answered "we just hang out in the same bar". - -Side one The title track of the album is a twenty-minute-long piece, featuring a small amount of vocals, sung by Oldfield. The beginning and end of the track are driven by a synthesised lead passage, stylistically similar to the opening theme to Oldfield's Tubular Bells. Oldfield rated "Crises" as one of the best tracks he had done since "Tubular Bells". Side two "Moonlight Shadow" features Oldfield's touring vocalist Maggie Reilly, who had also sung on his previous albums. Oldfield had singer Hazel O'Connor sing on an early version of the track, which was then titled "Moment of Passion", but it failed to produce sufficient results. He then booked Reilly for a studio session, for which he prepared by drinking wine and writing a set of lyrics using a rhyming dictionary. Reilly sang the lyrics in a rock style at first, which prompted Oldfield to suggest a softer tone and "in the manner of a lullaby". The idea worked, despite recording the song in small sections and using multiple drop-ins which took some time to finalise and piece together.[ "In High Places" was written by Oldfield with lyrics by himself and Yes vocalist Jon Anderson, who sings on the track. The pair had worked on several occasions prior to recording Crises, and Oldfield had enjoyed Anderson's vocal style and how easy it was working with him. Anderson was living in Barbados at the time of writing, so Oldfield phoned him from England and sung the song's tune to him, after which Anderson went away and wrote lyrics to it. The two later met and finished the song in Oldfield's studio.[4] The track features Pierre Moerlen, who had toured with Oldfield and played on his albums, on vibraphone. "Foreign Affair" features Reilly on vocals, who co-wrote the lyrics with Oldfield. "Taurus 3", a short fast-paced guitar piece unlike the previous two long multi-themed "Taurus" tracks featured on QE2 and Five Miles Out respectively. "Shadow on the Wall" features vocals by Roger Chapman. Oldfield wrote the song with Chapman's voice in mind------Track listing All music by Mike Oldfield, except "Foreign Affair" by Oldfield and Maggie Reilly. I do have almost all albums of Mike Oldfield on vinyl and the most of it on CD! The full album is like a best of, but its only one album! Great, great, great! And the vocals sung by Maggie Reilly, Jon Anderson and Roger Chapman are brilliant! Sung like from another world! Sounds like heaven on earth! Long live Mike Oldfield! Mike Oldfield 4 ever! Thanks for sharing the video! Let me tell you something important: God loves you! God loves us ! He he is no respecter of persons! because God wants us all to be saved! and let's go to the knowledge of the "Truth" God wants to save us from eternal damnation, which we all deserve because of sin, who entered the world through Adam, But God's Love was so great for us, that he sent his only Son (Jesus Christ), gave him to this world, to die and rise again for All of us! so that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ, does not go to eternal punishment, but has “Eternal Life! " Jesus Christ came to call sinners to “Repentance! " and, whoever believes in Him, has "Eternal Life! “But whoever refuses to believe in Jesus Christ, the wrath of God remains upon him. All of us who believe in "The Only Savior of the world! " The Only Mediator between God and us! The Lord Jesus Christ! " All of us who trust in Him; we have "Eternal Life! " God loves you! God loves us! Only to Him be the Glory Forever! Amen! wow. First time listening. When hearing Moonlight Shadow, i'm trying to look for rough edges or impurities or irregularites in the singing voice, but there is practically none. It's of course not a very intense kind of singing, like Queensryche, but wow, it's practically like honey, a fluid kind, pouring into my ears.

Foreign Affair is as fantastic as Moonlight Shadow is overplayed. Then again, Crises starts as something you'd expect to hear in Islands, only to bring to the absolutely pants-soiling switch at 18:52 and into a completely genius section up to around 20:20. Even with no lack of other memorable moments throughout the album, that minute and a half alone makes the album for me. Utter genius.

Shadow on the wall great track I'd forgotten that was on this album haven't heard it for ages with the vocals by Roger Chapman, I don't think it's him on the video Version ? I wish I could play it loud but it would disturbe my neighbours I will have to dig out a pair of my hi-fi headphones.

Lots of good memories. Got Crises for birthday present from my lovely girlfriend I had then. She was something special as was Mike Oldfield in those youth days 😅 Cheers to all Mike Oldfield fans and merry Christmas everyone ❤

I saw Queen at Wembley in the 80s sometime, couldn't tell ya what year cos it was a bit of a blur back then. I'm older now and a little more sensible but going to a concert at Wembley was something special that I remember almost 30 years on😍😍

Saw MO live for this tour - the rising moon throughout the title track was memorable. Probably not stunning by today’s laser and video wizardry - but great for 83/84. Wembley Arena. Saw Hall and Oates perform Family Man too - and not mention it was Mr O’s song. Rude!

Saludos. Alfredo!

Hello everybody. If I have posted about this Album before (ahh.. remember the art of getting the needle to sit in the right place on the rcord?), then please excuse me. When I was a somewhat ignorant teenager, my brother put headphones on me and said "Just listen !"...and I did !.. Then I 'discovered' that this is the same guy with the 'Tubuler Bells" album... My Life has never been the same... (John Michael Jaree "Equinox' and Alun Parsons "Eye in the Sky" sort of came out at the sames time..forgive my memory!), anyway... Headphones, via" Quadraphonic" stereo sound, and ooh..ahhh... And now, a few years later (may be more than a few), I still put on headphones...listen...and bliss out. I bow, humbly, before you Mr Oldfield (What happened to the 'Sir") And, yes, (@MOON_BOYS) I have bought this album/CD, several times, becuase 'when I wax' lyrical about it, my guests take it with them when they leave.

Crises is normally the first track. On Crises. Moonlight Shadow second. Crises. Heck it lasts for ages, sages. Like Taurus II. Anyway - Don't Dat Beat all? Mr Bronk (sic) was up cos my battery was down. On The Town. I like to keep my fire engine clean - It a clean machine. Penny Lane Denny Crane and Denny Laine. Band on the run. TITLE TRACK. And thanks for asking. I was having fun. As I fell into the sun. Just look! Vinyl Records boot sale and graffiti to my right and MODERN fire engine opened up for our inspection to my left. The landscape has changed in intervening years. I bussed back. Nice walk and do not start me up on Keith Emerson. Paul's first wife was Linda Eastman. RIP. I dream of dystopian landscapes where huge rodents chew the sensory. Thanks for the artwork the damage report. Lol BAND ON THE RUN COVER. PERSONEL AND PERSNNEL. See how I skirted pass a supposedly Satantic venue, Nancy? Jamming Jerusalem and stop slouching The Donald! Stand Up that man. We got Hope Of Deliverance from the Darkness that already surrounds us. No offence all faith systems but the dystopian dreams - True Dat!
