If you listen to this, great taste, i grew up with his music, im a 70s and 80s child now 51.i dont know any other music that can beat this, though i listen to most music types, i dont necessarily love all, or believe in it, except stuff to my taste.
It was 1990 and I was alone and lost. I was 16, damaged and lost. I found confort in this song and I also found hope, it helped me imagine how amazing things would be. And I come back to it once a while to remember that time.
I don't know why, but this song touches me so much that I always have to struggle with tears when I hear it...I would like to know myself why? It's not grief...it's something very special that grips me there...
Awesome song very very talented musician. I think as we get older we appreciate music. I had never listened to mike oldfield a year ago. Heard a song on radio 2 then hey how hooked on good old songs
This Song reminds me of my deceased father who died from Creutzfeld-Jakob-Disease. It has been his ringtone for my entire life and I am always tearing up listening to this beautiful song remembering the years that I had with him. After over 10 years I finally realized how great this song is and how masterfully it's been done
I helped care for my step father through Parkinsons. A few hours after he died i was walking round to my sisters to smoke a number, put his ipod on random and out of 1200 songs this came on. I'm not a spirtual person however it really felt like he was reaching beyond the grave to play this astounding piece of music. Gbnf!!
Dans To France, Familly man, Foreign affair....
Hi Mike, I thank God above for your incredible talent. Your tireless efforts to develop this God given gift is very inspiring. If I’m a typical fan, my experience is that your music has been executed in such a way as to comfort lonely people, console the grieving, and encouraging problem over comers, while fussing anger. It inspires hope that God’s Love is all around in the physical beauty of this world. With sincere and humble respect, I Pray that you’ve discovered Jesus Christ in your spiritual journey. Seeing your talent in heaven would be amazing ✝️💜✝️ Thank You
I knew this song firstly from the Shadows (when I was just 9 yrs old in early 60's) and the first time I knew Mike Oldfield is from his Tubular Bells album (when I was about 17). Till today I love the songs from both The Shadows and Mike Oldfield's...
Mike Oldfield is one of the three modern music geniuses beside Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish and Arjen Lucassen of Ayreon. Please understand me correctly, there has been a sh!tload of talented componists and musicians/performers in the past 60 years or so, but for me these three are the absolute top. A truly talented multi-instrumentalist, an unprecedentedly succesful career of 5 decades, gazillions of sold albums - but what grips the listener most - the pure raw emotions translated by Mike's music. Thank you Mike for letting us enjoy your music.
In the 80's when i was only 10 years of age i found an album call QE2 and this beautiful song was on it and listening to it through headphones i felt an emotion that i had never felt before and so pathed the way to my love of music.
I like very much the original version with The Shadows, but Mike Oldfield's version has so much sentiment in it that it's impossible not to like it and also very difficult sometimes to hold a tear. Beautiful !!!
Absolute Mike's venerator here. And yet I have always considered paradoxal that one of the themes you most clearly notice the Oldfield-touch within, is this Shadows composition. I owe a lot to QE2: first MO song I ever heard was Sheba. And I instantaneously thought like "OMFG! (kinda, but in Spanish) WHO HAS POSSIBLY PUT TOGETHER A MUSIC LIKE THIS?" Not a second listen needed. And the Reading kid got me hooked until today. My personal choice: if you get inspired by this touch in a 3min format, go enjoy 37min of the same in Ommadawn - part 1. My preferred Mike Oldfield music ever.
Mike wanted mine at his funeral and got it! I wanted Arrival to be played, then another great piece by Mr. Oldfield was played My parents even went to a concert with him, the 1st and only ... In Bremen, in 1982? Well then, I grew up with Mike Oldfield and I think the music is amazing, it's like My home and always reminds me of my dad. ♥ ️🎶💫👋✨🙃👍
This guy's guitar sound pierces my soul,he is a unique guitarist, and a multi talented on a host of other Instruments ,You Top Banana Mike,I take my Hat off to you.Bless you and yours.
This is magic and i remember when i am very young to hear this song. It was one favarite songs from my father. Thanks Mike for this wonderful and magical song
My favourite Jerry Lordan instrumental from the sixties and a big hit for the Shadows, Mike Oldfields Version Retains The enthusiasm of the original version . Optimism flows , combining with space for growth and a place to call home in this Wonderful Land.!
Quite simply put... The sheer GENIUS of Mr Oldfield BLOWS ME AWAY to a far better land, THE WONDERLAND !!( ok, I may sound a bit corny, but I MEAN it!)
+CellarDoorAU Thanks, what a beautiful comment. May I ask where you have seen the angelic presence (real question), is it in the form of an orb? Wherever it was, it definitely fits to the soul of his music. Best wishes and blessings!
I played this album over and over in 1980 after seeing him at the Glasgow Apollo on the Platinum Mike Oldfield In Concert Tour. Great memories. Love you Mike.
This song was the very first song (and video) that I have heard of Mike Oldfield when I was a young child. And it took me a lot of physical work and effort to collect the money to buy this vinyl as I was doing work for my parents to receive that money B-). But it was worth it, and still is ..And would be :-) I got hooked on Mike Oldfield with this song and still love it up to date even if I hear other music. But nothing ever gotten to that level B-). And 'yes' I got all his other CDs :-)
The sweet little child in this Music Video is his daughter, Molly - from his marriage of 7 years to a Sally Cooper which apparently lasted from 1979 to 1986. Molly was apparently the elder Sister of Dougal, who is the one who tragically died at only 33 years of age.
Thinking about the little forest next to my bïrthplace. I listened it 8 years ago on the mountainbike in October 2013. It was magic and every time I hear this song I got emotional and thinking about that experience...
during the 80's in Australia this song would be played as the ABC was shutting transmission for the night. Loved it then and it took me years to find it again. It's such a beautiful song and it still makes me smile.
Hello Mike, The Shadows where before my time so I became to know and love your version of Wonderful Land. As a 12 year old I saw you performing live at Zurich Hallenstadion - my very first big concert my parents brought me to =) it was a very magic moment in my life and is lasting as something outstanding untill today. Thank you for your great piece of music art !
+Daniela Koidl Very similar story here, only a few years ago I learned about the Shadows, but since my teenage years when Mike´s version was played in the German charts it has alway been HIS original song for me. My sister bought me his album QE2 (and also "Water Bearer", by his amazing sister Sally Oldfield, which I can wholeheartedly recommend!) and I also discovered his other, older albums like Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn, Tubular Bells and Incantations which I also just LOVED and which helped me a great deal during very difficult phases in my late teenage years. I was lucky enough to see him in concert in Passau, Bavaria, in the early 80s then during his "Five miles out" and "Crises" tour. Absolutely unforgettable, and although I at times have veered away a bit from him I always come back after years and his music (and this song, with which it all began!) still touch me to the core.. Yes, Mike, thank you so much for what you have shared with us! Und herzlichen Gruß und Segenswünsche an dich!
