I have a standalone MP3 player system (OmniFi DMP1) for my car that uses 20 gig hard drives. I've got four hard drives I frequently change out like cassette tapes all loaded with different music. when I first started my music collection I sat down at a fresh computer and ripped all my CDs one at a time carefully reviewing all the data and making adjustments - I actually made all my patton stuff it's own genre. lovage, bungle, maldoror, FNM, tomahawk, fantomas etc. etc. makes it easier to find faster.
blow me Yes, there could even be subgenres of Patton; Mellow shag Patton, nervous breakdown Patton, ass kicking Patton, classic Patton, urban Patton, goth noir Patton, native American themed Patton, sophisticated adult contemporary Patton, etc
It's a shame that Rollins isn't properly interviewing Patton on this. But then I guess if they were filmed in the same room together the entire world would implode over the sheer awesomeness of it.
Mike Patton reminds me a little bit of Frank Zappa - artists like this are moved by sounds more so than songs and genres. These kinds of artists tend to create incredibly original and interesting music.
I swear I once saw an interview with Frank in the late 80’s where he says something like: “well, mr. bungle is the only band that’s doing anything good these days..”🤔👍
funny enough mike patton said many times he wasn't influenced by frank zappa but by another person named captain beefheart. even though mike and zappa don't connect with influences they both are very creative and influential.
Mike Patton is constrained by songs and genres in the same day as anyone else. Most of his songs have the verse, chorus formula and are within the rock/experimental/alternative genres. He does, however offer a lot of creativity and I would argue innovation to music for his time.
Mike Patton will go down in history as an EXTREMELY influential and successful musician across multiple genres and bands. And at the same time - one of the most underappreciated musicians of his time.
Yeah he's still not comfortable explaining his music out in words..even today. You get way more talk out of him then you did after Angel Dust to the Album of the year years with FNM even..let alone talking on his other many bands
+Merle Langlois People don't become as talented as he is without being nerdy. You have to be obsessed. It does bother me when musicians or artists of whatever sorts try to hide it.
Merle Langlois He said one time that when he was in school he was an uber-geek and got bullied relentlessly for it, he wanted to be a jock but was too geeky for it, probably one of many things that drove him to succeed
What I like about is his whole scope of music. I hear bands from the 70's and 80's that always make me think "there are some brilliant lunatics out there" He's one. Has anyone ever heard the Einsturzende Neubauten song ZNS? I saw the video for it one night and it nearly broke my mind..
Patton doesn't get 'credit' for shit. the average majority has never even heard of him, tho his resume is longer than the fat deuce he drops every day. The Rev. Maynard once called him the hardest working man in the industry. He just tries to give those musicians that are making weird music a place and a chance.
To the people trying to figure out his "deal" - he's a music geek. Just like any geek, he's super knowledgeable about what he geeks about. He acts like a typical nerd.
People ,, cant figure out his deal " Ha , ha The deal is To Fool everyone All celebs are transgender DECIVERS including Mike who admitted that he is a Girl in ,, Brasilian Interview " ...... CHECK OUT. -- ,, Transgender celebrities they always tell you " You have this Video on my PLAYLIST
He's actually come across really well in this interview. As he can be a bit of a dick sometimes when he doesn't take himself seriously. He's got a lot of interesting shit to say when he's like this and taking it seriously. I love this Mike Patton!
To stay sincere Mike spent most his career shunning stardom for freedom and now has his own space he created for true creative artists not money/fame seekers. God bless him. Got Mr Bungle Demo tape in 88 and have followed all his work since.
6:12 Mike says what I always thought. Mike's music is for musicians, not the population. Ask anthrax who their fav band was, theyll tell ya, FNM. Pattons music has always been a treat for an artist. Never for the less inclined.
I'm a musician and I don't like hes music. Saying his music is for musicians is one of the most obnoxious thing I've ever heard. Music is for those who like it. No more no less
@@wetknuckles ”his music” is really not a proper way to say about Mike Patton tho. He has so many bands and songs in different genres and styles. I doubt you’ve heard all he’s capable of
@@wm1573 it's the music he makes so it's his music what the hell are you on about. I think his voice is terrible to me I don't like the sound. That's his instrument and I don't like the way he plays it. Because I haven't listened to all his music I can't have an opinion gtfo
Mike is so talented and hot. Always has been since he first appeared on film around '85. Would love to meet him with Tomahawk in New Orleans this October. Love how well spoken he is, and that amazing ever-adjustable voice range when he sings. He can put you to sleep like a lullaby or kick your ass with scream metal. Love you,Mike. I always knew there was more to you than "Epic".
the more i learn about him and his music the more i love this guy his fearless bold approach to music makes him a pioneer of his unclassified genre combined with one of the biggest vocals in the world and he keeps getting better with age what a talent
I want Patton and Rollins to sit me down and give me advice, like two dads. I'm fighting hard to take the path they paved for me while I was growing up.
Catch him on a good day, he's cool like this. On a bad day...I pity the fool. But, honestly, I'd catch him on any day! I'd still be happy, even if I got the contrary "him"! Fan for life!
Funny enough, every single project of his I disliked at first listen and then they grew on me, Faith No More, Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantomas, etc. The exception is Peeping Tom which I thought was great at first but feel like it’s gotten less interesting the more I listen. Which was his goal, to create a pop record.
Because Mike isn't afraid to take risks with his music. He makes weird shit because he likes weird shit, people just so happen to like the weird shit that Mike makes.
Gotta love this guy. His answer about labeling his music is the exact opposite of what every pop artist is! Mike's music comes from within, is totally him, and he really doesn't care what people think. Pop singers start off with the goal of being exactly what they think people want.
Mike Patton fans are really open minded and they love different types of music, as long as it's Mike Patton. Maybe Mayer is different from Patton but just as worthwhile a musician?
@FlyingFoetus I really get the impression that Mike is kinda shy and awkward when he's offstage. He doesn't look like he's on drugs to me, he just looks a little insecure. Golly I live this man.
Escuchen lo que dice acerca delo que están haciendo aquí: criticarlo por su vestimenta y por no seguir la línea de FNM. Patton puede hacer el estilo que quiera sin que jamás le quede grande porque es un artista de tomo y lomo. Grande Mike!
He's a stand up king who doesn't care about what other people think..he's also extremely creative and smart about what he wants his legacy to be. Every move is not just for his career..it's for his soul🌬💕love that.
Yes Mike, you fell through the cracks. Good grief, all amazing artists are the same, If they didn't feel they could do better they wouldn't bother at all. What a fucking legend!
His nervous energy! No wonder he eats sangas in his interviews - needs something to ground him. Or drink less caffeine. hehe. Nope that won't happen. :D
Mike is the man. watch this cool close to the the end he lets loose with some fine vulgarities. thank u Rolllins!! i clipped that part of this track and have him interrupt my my playlists every so often and set everyone straight.!! check out the band Grotus u like Mike u will love them.
@Mikeus2006 I expect he doesn't usually get questions like this in interviews, though he's always struck me as someone a little camera shy sometimes, poise on stage is different to poise in front of a camera, as for this interview Rollins is very passionate about his music and would be asking difficult questions about it, I'd like to get both of them stoned (I know they normally don't) and then listen to them talk about music they love. That would be an awesome conversation.
Pretty sure he's contending himself every day. Playing gigs is probably his escape to let everything go and you can clearly see that by his on stage behaviour.
