I think he has gotten better at dealing with it due to all the times they stuck him up high (like the Mackinac Bridge). I was surprised when he was the one who said "Gotta do that" about the hang gliding, though.
It’s funny to me that I’ve spent months on end living at the depths of the sea, but the shear thought of a hot air balloon makes me so anxious to the point of diarrhea 😂😂😂😂
I have to admit, Mike, while you were flying that hang glider, expressing your joy, I tried to imagine I was there to and I wept. God that looks beautiful.
Ha!! So loved this one Mike! Aussies hey!! We invented hang gliding, Hills hoist, Victa mower, the Black Box...we're a bloody awesome bunch aren't we!! Thanks for a wonderful ep, where you obviously had a lot of fun!! Peace and Love from Australia
Dude...I've followed you since WAY back....and one of your MAJOR qualities is: You KNOW How to get down and dirty.....DOING the deed, skill, trade, craft, etc. THANK YOU for calling attention to the TRADES that make this nation hum. Remember kids, ONLY about 40% of Americans even get a college degree.
My uncle was a hot air balloon pilot, I got to fly many times as a child. Definitely experienced that "wherever the wind takes you" thing. Several times where it took us was into a tree :D
Ironically I just came back into my apartment from an early morning run on a route that I think of as a Flying Pig, which I named after a store that used to be at the halfway point. When I got to the place with the pig with the wings on the roof of the building, then I would turn around and come back in the other direction. That store has not been there for at least 5 years and I miss seeing the giant pig. Now I know what happened to it - it flew away and wound up in Florida.
Hey Mike, you guys are awesome, keep up the great stuff, come back to Louisiana sometime ,we'll load up on cracklings, boudin, sauce pec'an, gumbo .....,
You hit a daily double with me! My bucket list items are all up in the air. Helicopter ride √, Parasail √, hot air balloon ride √. Hang gliding and Parachuting and Bungee Jumping and Zip lining (two late additions because they didn't even exist when I first made my list.
That looks so awesome I would love to go up in a hot air balloon ride I would also love to hang gliding. To be able to fly up among the clouds like a bird just once I'll be exhilarated I've would never want to come back down.
I bought my husband a flight for his birthday. Put a blindfold on him, drove an hour south. When he got out of the car blindfolded, I escorted him over to the side of the balloon van and he removed the blindfold to see written on the side of the van "balloon rides". He was surprised. He went and enjoyed the ride. I followed in the chase vehicle. It wasn't something I ever wanted to do... 😂Now that I have watched the rest of the video.... I might try hang gliding with the plane and tandem. Next trip to Florida.
I'm acrophobic, so you will NEVER get me in (on?) a hang glider. I think I might possibly perhaps be able to ride a balloon, but even though we have the International Balloon Fiesta here every year I've never been, never mind tried a balloon ride.
Hello Mike, Do you personally reply to these?.. After flying on a hang-glider - is it something that you would consider full training on? How about a Jet-Pack??? I would love to fly and have a Jet-Pack.
I loved this video. Yet, I was told that the balloon pilot actually needs to be a certified pilot. An aircraft requires certification of mechanics, parachutes require certification for packing, what certification does the balloon crew need?
Wow wow wow .... two different flying disciplines , both hosted by awesome people ... and Mr Rowe ... I have to say , we could feel how stoked you were after the second flight .. or was that pure relief ... Love your programs .. thank you !!!
Welcome to my world Mike. I have been flying a Hang Glider and getting high (about 8,000ft) for over 50 years. Once your feet leave the ground, your view of the world will be forever changed!
Fun fact, the T2 hang glider (the pink front leading edge one) was made in Chelan, Washington. I worked for the manufacturing company for 7 years. The Malcolm and Laura are amazing people!
Kamron at Northwing builds good gliders. I use the freedom 220 for tandems. Laurie is smoking hot and pilots smiled pleasantly when she was around. Fond memories...
Welcome to my neck of the woods! I often see those balloons as I'm driving up around Orlando on the weekends. I didn't know there was also a hang gliding business, that looks like a lot of fun! Malcolm seems like my kind of people too, and I'd have to go shoeless as well.
Mike's pure childish joy while hang-gliding is so awesome. You could tell it was no longer about the show but rather experiencing something that, in the end, touched his heart!
Thanks to Mike Rowe I have added this ranch and adventure to my list. Mike and his crew always put out the most interesting topics and do the actual thing. Mike has been one of my favorite tv shows no matter what he and his crew are tackling. Thank You Mr Rowe for your hard work and intelligence in everything you do. Love the quick funny retorts. Keep it coming.
Ya know, I tend to judge entertainment (& life, for that matter) by how often I can chuckle... Be assured that just the sight of Mr. Rowe, brings a smile of anticipation, for all grins, chuckles, education & ethics in action, that will follow ! Thanx !
I’ve wanted to do both of these things for a long time. I did manage to go up in a balloon a few years ago, but it was just a quick tethered flight. By the time he finished the hang glider flight I was getting teary, seeing how moved and amazed Mike was. I want these experiences even more now!
I’ve been hang gliding thanks to an exgf and a birthday! Did it exactly the same, got towed up by a plane and released. Also had to get certified as a co-pilot before we could launch
As a person who is horribly afraid of heights one of the highlights of my life was taking a hot air balloon ride. I’d always thought it seemed like a beautiful experience but my fear overwhelmed me. My husband challenged that by gifting us a ride one Christmas. It took almost a year for me to book the flight but we went on a beautiful Fall evening and it was perfect, everything I’d wanted it to be. That started years of challenges to do the things that deep down caused me fear and I’m still doing so. I’m not an adrenaline junkie, it’s only to let myself know that I’m able to make reasonable choices to calm my mind.
