Circa 1992, Mike Rowe (host of Dirty Jobs) worked in (very) late-night TV selling crap to idiots on QVC. He used the opportunity to its full comedic potential.
I think it's more because he was bored out of his brains with the job and that he could let her talk and not have to talk and rest his voice. I worked in sales talking all day on the phone & I absolutely HATED talking, so this is a welcome respite. Nothing to do with "lovely soul", not that I'm saying he isn't but he was a QVC troll. You're projecting your own loveliness onto him. :)
I actually feel bad for this older lady. You can tell she doesn't talk to people often, and that's probably why she was rambling on about off topic subjects.
My aunt is from Nebraska and she calls me all the time just to talk about random things like the weather, music and halloween festivities. She is lonely and our conversations give meaning to her day she's told me. Love you aunt Treva♥️♥️
This is my aunt! Ever since her sister my other aunt passed, she lives alone now and is lonely. She calls me often just talk to about the past and everything else. She repeats the same stories over and over, but I know this makes her happy, so I’m glad that I can at least bring her some joy. I love you auntie Gloria. 💖
@@ead3nblvck938 My grandma is like this too She doesn't bore me. I genuinely listen to her. She is a great conversationist. Older people have better phone skills than young people. It's sort of an art.
My neighbor does this. I just let him talk and I smile and laugh as prompted. It doesn't cost a thing and I sense it makes him feel better. All people want to be heard and listened to.
I was a mail carrier for 30 years and I used to have people like this who just wanted to talk. I had a route to get delivered and it was hard to get away from them without appearing rude. The thing is some of them had family around so I don't know why they didn't talk to them. Some were truly alone and I would do my best to look out for them. I even invited one over for Thanksgiving one year. She wouldn't come over so I put a plate together and drove it to her house. She was all alone that day but she was so happy when I showed up with that dinner.
I worked in a nursing home in the kitchen for a few weeks many, many moons ago. It took about an hour for me to realize that the older folk are literally about to burst to tell someone, and in a nursing home setting, ANYONE, about something, and again in that nursing home setting, ANYTHING. I would even say that a large portion of nursing home patients would even thrive if they just had someone to talk to. And it doesn’t even have to be about anything in particular. You may get old and grey, but the need to connect never leaves you.
100% true!!! my grandpa is recovering in a nursing home currently, hasn’t been home for 3 months, was in icu for 24 days twice on a vent. Lives alone, his wife passed in 2016 so he wasn’t getting out of the house much, mostly talked to people on the phone which he’s notorious for keeping you on the phone for as long as possible, and asking questions he knows the answer to. Which makes sense when you consider he doesn’t have many people to talk to. He’s gotten to socialize a lot with care staff and although he really wants to go back home it’s been good for him to be around people again.
Having worked for a shopping channel for 5 years, I still can't believe that they EVER let clients call in and be on-air. That took some major balls or ignorance, not sure which.
As Mike Rowe explains on other interviews, he was getting no sales as his shift was in the middle of the night. Then they decided to put a caller on, and the sales started coming in. That’s how it all started.
I love her voice; it’s soothing. The caller isn’t weird. Y’all are so sensitive. This was 1992, so someone in poor health like her didn’t have a Smart phone to reach for it to automatically connect to someone. And it was the middle of the night when she made the call. She was literally looking for someone to talk to.
He was pretty quick. "We certainly don't want anyone to go over that fine line of responsible shopping". Also after the caller described how much she liked asking for the gram weight of gold items in jewelry stores and was given 19K reason she didn't need to know that, Mike said "I would hate to work in a retail jewelry store nowadays". His tone was so smooth, like he was agreeing with her, but actually was commiserating with any jewelry store employee this woman did this to.
I now understand why Mike was fired, dear lord super funny, but you can tell he finds the item he is selling ridiculous. The comment about his voice in a singing doll left me smiling.
Yes. She is not the only one that has called and said that all their cards are to the limit and are making extra payments so they can done more. And that their families tell them to stop getting in debt by buying from QVC and the hosts have told them don’t listen to your family. Keep spending money!
Mostly sad old people..I hope I don't end up like that. But I feel like I will. I'm 17 and even while supposedly in my prime I have only been able to make friends on the internet. At least I have my mom still
No disrespect but you can tell she's the type of person that when they pass away and the relatives go to clean out her house they find it's been hoarded with junk from QVC...
Mike Rowe is an amazing person I had chance to meet him while hebwas doing dirty jobs cause they filmed a episode with the company i worksd for. He walked up to every single 30 of us employees and took time ti talk to us for a few minutes getting to know us off camera after he got back from filming worn out tired and beat up from the work and thabked hs for the important thankless job. That we do that the community needs cahse not for us y'all woild have sewage in ypur front yards
Haha, this was one of the funniest things i've seen on youtube in a while. THis lady isn't even talking about the doll..she could care less..and damn that doll is scary looking..wth!!
Mike rose can talk and make sardonic jokes about anything including an animatronic doll with his voice singing made ups songs and puppet therapy for traumatized adults. Ridiculously fun.
I've gotten a lot of those as a congressional and senatorial intern. It's quite uncomfortable when they pause and wait for you to say something, and you realize you haven't been listening so you make up some comment like "oh, that's terrible" or "I'm so sorry to hear that." Ah. Terrible memories.
My mother and her best friend would watch QVC while doing ceramics, order things they liked...then after they arrived, decide they didn't look as good in person, and send them right back. (I wonder if they ever ordered anything Mike pitched)
Thank God he gets rid of the QVS why he made it big times when then other hosts wish they was him!!!! Gooooo Mike Rowe YOUR A GREAT GUY AND WON THE WORLD!
Oh, What A Merry Christmas Day - from Mickey's Christmas Carol Oh, what a merry christmas day Hear the joyous music play Bells are ringing choirs singing Oh, what a merry christmas day sharing the season of good cheer with the ones we hold so dear friendly faces, warm embraces Oh, what a merry christmas day snowflakes covered country lanes Jack Frost painted window panes twinkling stars on christmas trees oh, what happy memories gathered 'round a fireplace fam'lies filled with love and grace from peaceful ember's glow blessed Yuletide spirits grow grow and grow grow and grow Joy to the children far and near what a won'drous time of year isn't is just grand to say merry, merry christmas merry, merry christmas Oh, what a merry christmas day!
Mike comes across as bored and so just having fun with the doll. Genuine caller. But...people in the comments say "you can hear his hatred for QVC and the doll" and "he is outright trolling and underminding QVC, he is a troll and he knows he's saying a big fu to QVC" Nah,i don't get that vibe at all. He's just a chilled guy entertaining himself.
@Davideogamer I guess she was unhealthy. In her defense, she was saying she pays her credit cards early. Granted so she could buy more QVC. To each their own I guess. Who wouldn't want Mike to be their 3am friend?
