The Tampa Pro 2012 means quite a bit for Mike V. as he's won it before, 18 years ago! After a few runs, and three broken boards, Mike landed what would later be dubbed the "Best Trick". Watch as the crowd goes absolutely insane.
I am, and this was even better than advertised. Proves everything he was talking about on there about being in the moment, adapting to his environment, and doing his own thing. Freaking inspiring as hell.
Idk how many watching were actually there but...that was the greatest thing ever to actually be there and see it go down, just the energy in that place. I'll remember it forever, things like this are what makes Tampa Pro the greatest skate contest ever. His run and pretty much the whole contest was already over but they let him try it again and again till he got it, and when he did... 👍👍👍. Enough said
He is one of the best ever. Pure style. He's everything a skater should be. Just have fun and skate. Its so rad seeing the younger still respecting him.
Mike V has made a huge impact on skateboarding. Love him or hate him you cannot deny his completely individual style and ability to still push the limits of what's possible on a skateboard. Look no further than 2:32 - massive frontside nose pick!
he used to skate for world industries and had the first double-kick "popsicle shape" deck that is standard now (transition from old to new school). that is significant.
After watching recent footage of the dude who inspired me to start skating in the first place, all I want to do now is order an Elephant deck and shred.
not to mention he was one of the first ten pro skateboarders to be considered street. he had one of the first video parts of somebody just skateboarding down the street. not only was his merits back in the day real good, even in todays standards he is helping the skateboarding community, admits he was wrong. and goes on TV and specials teaching kids not only about skateboarding but how to get along, share. and that life is hard for everybody and skateboarding is an outlet for expression.
Skateboarding isnt about fashion or how things should be done its bout representing your own style and being who YOU are. every skateboarder is different and has different style and that is what makes skateboarding what it is today without that every single trick would look exactly the same and it would be pointless
I personally dont like lil wayne but he is not a poser skater, hes trying to learn just like you when you started. people who say hes fake are jumpin' on a bandwagon of hating him to be cool (or get likes on a youtube comments hint hint) am i wrong?
most people here probably don't even understand who this man is and what's he's done for skateboarding. get your shit right, skateboarding isn't about who has the cooler clothes or the better sponsors. mike represents everything this lifestyle stands for.
Didn't mean no disrespect, Mike V is one of my role models. When I said not the best, I didn't say anything that's not true. You don't have to be the best to be a legend and an all-time great. Mike V still draws the crowd and people like him for who he is and how he skates. That's why I like him too. PS I still own a 1993 Vallely naked board and still ride it just for fun.
i'm not sure i follow yours either... who are you to judge what this man does with his life? he has done skateboarding a great service with the many innovations he has brought to the lifestyle and he deserves great respect for it.
Are there any skate historians who know if Mike has ever been SOTY? I think on his Free Lunch he said he considered himself over-the-hill in '92, and he's still killing it to this day with no end in sight
Anyone who doubts this guy's life long total dedication to skateboarding, and completely timless destroying power, needs to carefully watch his battle commander! Keep in keep in mind that he was over 40 fuckin' years old when he filmed that masterpiece!!!! What the fuck? Seriously.
Those no complies are awesome, he climbed to the coping with a no comply and kept rolling. If you put a wall he wallies it, no matter how high. MV is otherwordly.
mike v is really a sensitive guy and a great man. I listened to his nine club interview and he was soooo good and honest and just stoked to recall his life story in skating and throughout the podcast i learned alot from the guy. i relate to him alot. Seeing mike get crowd surfed put a smile on my face cuz i know how he felt there. i dont need to say it, i just know exactly what that meant to him. And he fucking kills it! ! that nose pick was utterly terrifyingly freaky!!!! One time i saw him at the westminster mall with my ex girlfriend, but i was too pussy tosay whats up. But back then, i would’ve not had the same respect i have for him that i have now after seeing the nine club interview. Not that i disrespected him before, ive always been a fan, i just really feel more like 8 can relate to him
I'm not much of a fan of his style of skating, mostly because i'm jealous I can't emulate it but he just looks like he rips without giving a shit which is always better than the calculated type of skating we see today.
mb "the Rats" or "Revolution mother" was inspired by lil's music (jk,im sure lil was taking a picture with Mike, and Mike patiently agreed, cus he is a good guy)
