Heres the Northumbrian singer guitarist Mike Wildes performing "Sally wheatley" a song of unequited love originating from the Newcastle North East of England area (Northumbria) .Mike a graphic artist sang a whole range of songs for me many of which you would never usualy hear performed solo accompanied by his own jazzy guitar.
Sally Wheatley is probably by Joe Wilson the Tyneside Bard of great fame song and published in "Bits of S at least in the form known today Sangs and Homely stories by Joe Wilson" Published in Newcastle in the late 1880's the song is sometimes attributed to Alex Glasgow over such claim a debate stkill continues, but the song is definitely of much older vintage.
Joe Wilson is recorded as being a real 'Character' and in his time was a publican, a music hall performer and a famous Temperance speaker. Joe Wilson of Newcastle (c.1840-1874), Was a stage-comedian and printer of cheap songbooks, who also wrote such songs as No Work and Keep Yor Feet Still, Geordie Hinny

Am I the only nutter’ that thinks this is one of the most sublimely beautiful songs from The North, ever! 4 or more years and I still love it. The balance between the voice and guitar is so pivotal, it’s inherently level’, (ish). The guitar itself is so sweet, it sticks treacly to me, from so many different angles.... He doesn’t sing so much, as tell a story, in perfect musical melody, heartfelt and in a manner that makes me absolutely ‘get it’. No two phrases are the same. It lives. This is as much as ‘US’ as it gets. (Northeners). What are you up to now Marra? Respect!

I've been learning another traditional song called "Banks O' The Dee (Traditional North East Coal Mining Song) performed by Geordie Wilson. It was your aunt's address that caught my eye. I didn't even know there was a Dee St in Jarrow; I do now. Cheers!

And here I am again in 21, singing along to your song. The guitaring is exquisite; beyond my capabilities, but if any body knows a busker's version, I'd have a go. Just to keep it alive.

17 Aug 2018 and this is the first time I've heard Mike Wilde. After making the distinction between Mike and Michael WIlde (Donald Trump's lawyer I think) I feel like I have found a gold mine of classic folk songs. I'll be back.
