Hi jeff! Spinning the tires on the race surface gets the rubber hot and when it cools it hardens on the surface Grinding the top layer of rubber off exposes newer softer rubber The right rear always carries the most load and creates the most wear so generally takes a harder compound of rubber than the other three as well as more air pressure Amount of races a tire last depends how abrasive the surface of the track is. @@dirttrackuntold Thanks that helps. I would love to spend time in a classroom with others asking questions about Modifieds. I would pay good $$$ to sit in a Modified and take it around the track a few times (OK slow). Due to liability I doubt that could happen. I think it would be some'thn to witness the power, the vibration, and the speed. I have been watching Modifieds since the early 70s starting at Reading...then Bridgeport. The 1st time I heard of your dad I thought he was Marvin Panch...that was ages ago. I attended the World of Outlaws race at Bridgeport. I parked up Floodgate road. Yes there was a crowd but still plenty of seating. I still like Modifieds the best but have been to many 410 and 358 winged Sprint Car races. I said hi to you twice as we walked past each other. I figure you have to be a bit careful...I am sure though most of the crowd behaves itself. I think dirt tracks attract the best fans. Talking of an abrasive track. Georgetown was abrasive in the late 70s. However they have laid down a new surface twice...the last load was great. The last race at Georgetown was not a STSS race. The surface was perfect the entire race. The people who manicure tracks like Georgetown and Delmar and Bridgeport are artists. Hats off to Brett Deyo, Doug Rose, and Charlie Cathell. Those SpeedStrs @ Kutztown are great...great when they run @ Bridgeport. Hats off to Tobias too. Jeff...
