I don't understand why so many people buy into the reputation of Miles being difficult. There's a ton of his interviews on YT,and in most of them he shows considerable patience, wisdom and humor.It is only with annoying or stupid questions or interviewers that he gets pissed off.Wouldn't you?
@WolfgangvonBoyen
@WolfgangvonBoyen 2 месяца назад
It's just people's thoughts and actions that make it difficult. Miles shows us the inner spiritual path of liberation from compulsive form and the thinking attached to it and then people find their own nodes in the brain and project them into the other person.

There he is- Darryl Jones on funky bass. From the Miles Davis Group, to the Rolling Stones- for decades now (!) I saw him with the Bridges to Babylon tour at the outdoor stadium in Oakland. He was great. I saw John Scofield with Gov' Mule at the Fox Theater also in Oakland. John was amazing- brought the house down, or raised the roof off the mother. 🎉 🕉

The odd thing for me is that I always thought Darryl Jones played with the Connecticunt group NRBQ. Also, I heard his dad got him to sit in with Miles and he quickly added it to his resume. Either way he deservers to play with the Stones and have chauffer driven Bentleys.

Miles playing is phenomenal as usual, but why they edited out almost all the other musicians solos or part of them? Man, you got John Scofield on guitar, (the late) Bob Berg on saxophones, Darryl Jones on bass, etc, etc. What a band!!!! I believe this was cut out for TV broadcasting purposes. It’s a shame. I love this line up. Had to stop watching it with at least a half video to go. Very annoying. You can find complete concerts of this same tour on RU-vid. Much better.

Lovely is the soundmix. The drums are a bit laid back what pushed up the sound of the trumpet. Als I can see, that Miles loved to play in Molde there far up North.

It is so bitterly disappointing in all of these mid 1980s concerts that the cameramen consistently fail to focus in on Robert Irving III. This really is such a great shame and a total discredit to his unique and astounding abilities.

You how it is: Focus on the leader and the established names. Is it fair? Hell no. But that's the way it is.

In an obtuse manner which created a great orchestration palette. Miles constantly taught him that in this setting:”if you can he heard you are to loud”. Miles wanted him to be felt. Critics never understood this. Check how Miles heard BillEvans.

don't recall where i read it, think it was in one of the Davis books, Al got bored with playing time, didn't exicte him, he had rejoined Davis when he came out of retirement, to again play in this style, as a favour, more or less. Miles loved Foster's time keeping, considered him the best, of all the drummers he'd worked with, up until Ricky came along - he loved his time feel too, wanted that Go-Go pluse for the band
@markbahouth2713
@markbahouth2713 4 месяца назад
what i'm going to say is complete hearsay but what someone said was AL Foster walked out or quit because Miles wanted Foster to play simpler with a stronger back beat and Foster was not interested in playing simple grooves . if this is really what occurred then i will say it was Miles band and his prerogative to mold the bands sound. Miles asked Vincent Wilburn Jr who was in the sound booth when Foster split to play the drums. Vince played a nice strong groove with a solid back beat on the snare drum 🥁.

That drone pitch Miles throws out on keyboard the entire song, and tried to harmonize with his trumpt + keyboard right in the middle of other musicians solos must of really pissed them off.

you don' t really have to get used to.But when you have listened several times, you will find beautiful things in it, colors, space, sounds, everything you can find in nature too. You can be sure Miles loves Bach or Mozart too, but without Miles, we would miss half of the cosmos.

One thing is technique the other thing is spirit. Some are more impressed by acrobatics and some like the colors between the played tones and there is the point of higher understanding what music really is. And everybody is trying to give his very best on its way.
