Liam Hemsworth dedicated the song "when I was her man" to miley. "Flowers" is about liam. "Flowers" was put out on liams birthday It's appropriate that the tune for "flowers" is similar to "when I was your man." Take a chill, Bruno. It's okay to have a female response to your songs 😂. Why not just ask for some financial compensation? Does this really need to go to the courts 😒.
@@ke11yke11z I know that part. But I thought I remembered Miley and Bruno talking about Flowers as the response and Bruno being ok with it. Guess it's about getting a $$$$$$
Miley has said so many times that Liam used to dedicate that song to her… “I should’ve bought you flowers when I was your man….” so in a way, Bruno Mars as a singer had a lot of influence in Miley’s personal life and her song “I can buy myself flowers” is a reaction to a period of her life that was highly emotional. They’re both artists and are allowed to be inspired by other artists’ creative material!
As they should! If somebody is going to plagiarize your work then you may as well get some money for it. After all it never belonged to them in the first place. That's how these things work... You call it greed, others call it fairness/karma/justice. Ijs😂
@@kendracocom6111 That debt rumors were false, as MGM themselves stated. She's also not being sued by Bruno Mars nor his team, it's a separate company - Tempo Music. It was Bruno Mars' co-writer, Phil Lawrence who sold his portion of the song's shares to Tempo.
Exactly they ago have just given them some writing credits and this wouldn't have happened. I don't even listen to this music, but my coworker listens to pop and we share the radio, and I said that song sounds like that Bruno Mars song.
Flowers seems to references Mars' "When I Was Your Man," but does not sample or interpolate any melodic elements from the song. The only obvious similarities, then, are in the songs’ lyrics - which are not identical, but do share elements and ideas - and merely using some of the same words as an older song is not considered grounds for infringement. “This is great fodder for fan theories, but lawyers should have nothing to do with it,” says Joseph Fishman, a professor at Vanderbilt Law School in Nashville and an expert in music law. “There are no songwriter credits for the ‘When I Was Your Man’ writers because no license should be necessary.” -Billboard
Bruno Mars team are so nice that letting Miley Cyrus win Grammy awards, so many awards and when it's done and over... They used her... This is so suspicious 😂😂😂.

@@zarievioThis exact same cut, copy and paste reply that you keep posting? Is so not it! Not to mention the entire lawsuit goes against EVERYTHING that you just said. My personal opinion is I don't think she copied Bruno's song because they don't sound similar to me and why would they wait until the song is a huge hit to sue Miley?
Those are two different songs that sound nothing alike! How on earth does "Flowers" sound anything like "When I Was Your Man"???? I heard both songs and they're not the same! What is with these artists suing months/years after the release of a hit song???
@@athozosachu5646 The lyrics aren't the same buddy! And it IS about the sound! Neither of those songs sound anything alike! This is crap. It's a response to a song and that concept is incredibly creative and artistic! It's not a copy. It's imitation turned on its head. Sad when people want to road block artists.
I agree 90% with what you just said. IT IS A RESPONSE... But how can you have a response if there wasn't a question or statement made in the first place? 🙄 She used aspects and the idea of Bruno Mars's song to "create" her own. And she didn't credit him or even give him an honorable mention.😂😢 The lawsuit has grounds and you don't have to like it to understand the law. Please note that I used the word "create" loosely. As create to me means you invented something and this song by Miley Cyrus is more of an innovation than an invention.

This isn't rocket science! It's actually really sad that Bruno Mars and the people who helped create that song didn't get credit. Because the first thing I thought when I heard Miley's version, was oh this is like the female/ opposite pov version of Bruno Mars' "when I was your man". And I thought it was neat and it sounded great. But to know that he didn't get any credit? Kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There's literally no fighting this. I literally thought she had permission. And that they were both happy. 😅😢 2:09 yikesss! How shameful😅🤭 2:44 more like steal it til u get caught

In an interview by Billboard of one of the co-writers of this song, he said that the idea came from the word "flowers" itself, and that the lyrics came relatively quicky. Now we know why.
Literally only similarities is the word “Flowers” and bruno nor miley own that word. This isn’t a copy right, they sound nothing a like listening to both I get completely different vibes.
Yeah we all know it was a copy of Bruno Mars, just different lyrics. But now it’s been a few years, who cares ? Yeah she’s had success, what do they want, money ? Sometimes just let a song be a song. Let a Women have success, she won her first Grammy which she should’ve won for ‘the climb’ the music industry is unfair. Let it go fellas, just let it go.
I hope she countersues these jerks and gets millions of dollars because this is freaking ridiculous. I can't even imagine two songs that sounds so different and by the way you can't own chord progressions Ed Sheeran prove that last year
Yes Katy’s Perry Dark Horse lawsuit also said you can’t own chords. Either way nothing is similar except maybe the flip on the lyrics about buying flowers and going dancing. Really that’s it.
I thought that the only persons who can sue for copying are the persons who wrote the song. The Company did not write When I was Your man. The persons who wrote the Bruno Mars song have not sued Miley and her team. How does it work with these things in USA ? Is there anyone who knows
I'm a little surprised at the Mars team because other than a few turn of words the song didn't sound similar to me at all.. in the end he's singing about his regret to not having paid more attention to his woman so she didn't feel the need to leave and be with someone else who clearly prioritized her and their life together.. Miley is singing about the end of both her marriage and the years spent prior to that event and the fact that she didn't feel heard or valued .. it happens sometimes.. the guy marries you and then he's like well she's in my pocket so now she's just background noise.. regardless both songs are good but for me the upbeat tempo of Miley's song is the winner..
@@logikasoul6880 Agreed. 💯 I like both songs and there's been folks comparing both songs for a while. Bruno's song talks about his regret for the way he treated whomever the woman was in the relationship. Miley's song gives me more self-love, independent, freedom, embracing and celebrating yourself and embracing and celebrating singleness vibes. I love that song. Plus, I thought she talking about the end of her toxic marriage when she was singing that song. If anything, it sounds like two different songs speaking about two different experiences. Her song sounds more like a *response* to his song but definitely *not* a "copy."

Oh boy… they should have just done a remix combining both of their songs, would have been dope!!! She didn’t “copy” the song, she may have taken inspiration but it’s her own song bro
This is trash. There have been multiple reports over the years about Bruno being a gambler and in major debt. This is his way of grasping at straws, trying to get some money. Shame.
I thought it was common knowledge that Flowers was based on Bruno Mars’ ‘when I was your man’. Oh well, I guess she needed to ask permission, even though the sound is different.

pretty weak lawsuit if you ask me. Does Bruno company thinks he's the only one who ever made a song about a broken relationship?? The songs are quite dissimilar other than the mention of flowers.
Omg artists do this sort of thing all the time! Artist will sample other popular songs, make references, use the same harmonies but change the lyrics…let it go.

When I first heard it I was thinking “huh! This must be the answer to Bruno’s song when I was your man” Like dolly partons hit Jolene. Them girls from agt made their answer to that song. I believe that’s where that idea might have come from. It was brilliant and well. I guess she got caught

They don't sound alike at all. She may have gotten an idea from that song, but where does our inspirations come from anyway. Things we've seen, heard, done, or in some way experienced. We could trace any art to something similar and say it was copied. What I can tell you is when you go a wrong direction, you suffer correction. Some call it karma, but it's just lessons. A guy gave me flowers, first date, he turned out to be a bozo. Happened to millions, maybe billions. This thing is pure BS.
There might be some similarities between the two songs however there are also differences between the songs meaning it’s not an exact copy and it seems that Miley’s differences to Bruno’s are better to so many people that she got an award so bad luck Bruno.

I don't think they sound anything alike. And why get money from the song now and not as soon as it came on the radio. Because if that was my song I would fill a lawsuit right away.
Duh! How did they think they would get away with this? Lol. Obviously Bruno should have rights on the song! Come on they had to have known! She never even had a conversation with Bruno about this song?
The song sounds nothing a like. People who are saying they hear similarities are lying, and just want to jump on a bandwagon But songs mention buying flowers… Big deal.. that isn’t owned my anyone Other then that personally to me I do not hear similarities, completely different vibes in my opinion. One is screaming about buying herself flowers, and writing her name in the sand One is repeating I shoudda bought you flowers. That is the only similarities the word flower lol
She's not being sued by Bruno Mars nor his team, it's a separate company - Tempo Music. It was Bruno Mars' co-writer, Phil Lawrence who sold his portion of the song's shares to Tempo.
Dig out Ace of Base’s “It’s a Beautiful Life” and prepare to have your mind blown. That song precedes both of those songs by decades. Singers borrow chords, melodies, and stuff from each other all the time. This lawsuit goes nowhere. Let’s call it the “Sheeran Rule.” Marvin Gaye Estate v Ed Sheeran (2023). Same argument. Sheeran won hands down and rightfully so.
So does that mean Beyonce goes after Kelly Clarkson? Listen to Beyonce's Halo 2008 and Kelly Clarkson's Already Gone 2009. Are you really that hard up for money Bruno Mars? There's only so many chords in the world and a lot of songs sound like other songs.
