I forgot to mention this but i really have to commend natsuki hanae for his brilliant VA-singing. The stark difference in tone when Mikoto is singing vs when John is singing is stellar.

第一審ボイスドラマの時にエスを襲ったのはただジョンの性格が凶暴だからだと思ってたけど本当はストレスからミコトを守るためだったんだな…

第一審のときに、ミコトの裏人格がミコトに協力的なのか、主人格を乗っ取ろうとしてるのかどっちなんだろうって疑問だったんだけど、ダブルとボイスドラマを聴いて、本当に心からミコトを想っているのがミコトの裏人格(ジョン)なんだなとわかってから、ミコトのこともジョンのことも大好きになっちゃったな。MeMeの「ボクが僕を救ってあげましょう」も、ダブルの「俺が救ったハズだろう」も一片の嘘もないジョンの気持ちなんだよね ミコトが辛くても無理して笑って、ずっとずっと頑張っていたことをぜんぶ知ってて、ミコトが壊れる前に守ろうと救おうとして生まれた存在だからこそ、ミコトが赦されるなら俺が全て背負って消えるって選択をするのはあまりにも愛じゃん……。いま自分のせいで追い込まれているミコトを見て、「生まれてきてごめんなさい」って思うほどに苦しんでいるのもジョンなんだよね……… いまミルグラムという監獄に入れられて本当になにも知らないのに悪者になって追い詰めれているのは実際ジョンのせいだし、衝動的に赤の他人を殺したのはどうやっても赦されないことで、それを知ったミコトはジョンを憎むかも知れないけど、エスがジョンの気持ちに触れたようにミコトにも、どんなに辛くても絶対に自分の味方だった友がいたんだってことを知ってほしいな、と個人的には思ってしまう

I see John as a child who doesn't understand much. His desire to help the main personality. He observes the suffering and, because of his lack of knowledge, comes to the wrong conclusion. And so working hard and not getting the approval he needed (he wanted to be praised, from this line "count me to the savior), John is even more stressed. In the end, he realizes that he was moving on the wrong path. Because he wanted to protect his main personality and not be an enemy to him.

At 2:17, Mikoto and “John” are having a conversation and it’s very sad. Mikoto is breaking down, and “John” is comforting him-But Mikoto is not aware of “John”’s existence, so he can’t hear him. That “I’m so sorry” is most likely an apology from “John” to Mikoto, not for us.

wanted to point out, at 1:49 mikoto is running from who knows what, and right after that it’s john with a bat. the angle and just way they run/walk reminds me of horror movies where the victims being chased by the killer

Firstly, the song is INCREDIBLE. Secondly, we get some new insight on Mikoto’s internal thoughts. Interestingly, we don’t see the alter(s) and host merge at the end like we saw with MeMe. Thirdly, animation is BEAUTIFUL. Although another thing I find interesting is that there isn’t any tarot card symbolism but we get a phone call in exchange

Just want to bring up a theory I’ve been interested in lately. Basically it goes that Mikoto and John aren’t the only alters, but there are underdeveloped fragment alters as well. As John is referred to being newly born but DID can’t form in adulthood. But this is rather than the whole theory that there’s a secret 3rd one behind the scenes. Basically from what I’ve heard a fragment is a lesser developed alter that are dedicated to perform specific tasks. And that’s essentially what the mannequins represent, and especially with the shot at the beginning of John standing limp along the mannequins representing how he’s much more fully formed compared to the others. And it’s especially hinted it with his voice line in the trial 2 teaser trailer. Where we hear John screaming at people who are being annoying and threatening to kill them. At first this would seem like it’s referring to what he said in Neoplasm, about killing a bunch of random people who annoyed him. But what he said there was clearly a lie especially how he would’ve immediately been arrested if he did that, and how Mikoto was waiting for a single person to come by at the train station. So then the only explanation I can think of is in that line John isn’t referring to other physical people, but when he was first born referring to the voices of the other fragments. And how he was fearful of them and threatened them and perhaps believing they would hurt Mikoto. It’s also implied that because of this John might’ve repressed them, trying to leave only him and Mikoto (although I’m not sure about the logistics of this). As if the mannequins represent fragments then John killing them in the train could be representative of that, and how he regrets what he did and views his actions as violence. And with him saying “just the two of us, relieved aren’t you?” definitely implies how perhaps he did that to “protect” Mikoto in his own eyes. And when it comes to the physical murder, it’s represented in Double with the mannequin pieces flying outside the train (eg outside of his mind) where interestingly enough John didn’t hit anything himself with the bat. I do think this is interesting though about even if John isn’t the killer physically, what he could’ve done could be considered murder as per milgram tackling topics of wether something can be considered murder or not. And perhaps he wasn’t entirely lying in Neoplasm, but rather twisting the truth or believing that’s what happened.

I've been thinking about why we are judging Mikoto and not 'John'. I currently have three theories about it. 1. We are judging Mikoto's passiveness. I don't think Mikoto remembers much (or at all) of what 'John' did, however I do believe that he may be aware that there might be something wrong but is ignoring it. This is also in line with the differences the 10 prisoners has (faithful and unfaithful, bully and the bullied, etc.). Kotoko actively tries to save others while Mikoto dismisses and denies the feeling that there's something wrong since he's been under immense pressure already and what 'John' did may break him down more. 2. Mikoto is the one who killed. I still don't think he remembers. It's either 'John' was born/woke up from dormancy when Mikoto snapped and therefore he doesn't remember that he did it since the immense pressure and stress it gave him makes him break down and 'John' is his protector alter or Im not sure if it's possible to pass memories when 'John' split if it's the time he was born. 'John' wants to save him and protect him thus admitting to Mikoto's crimes since Mikoto doesn't know what he did and he doesn't want Mikoto to break down. This is his difference with Kotoko saving others, and him saving himself. 'John' doesn't want Mikoto to find out about his murder in order to protect his mental state. 3. Mikoto may really not be aware of 'John's' actions. He is the one being judged for he is the 'main personality (? Im not sure of the correct term)' and he has to be held accountable for the actions of the other identities too (I think it's called system accountability?). I'm really not well-versed about DID but I hope I didn't say anything offending;; I'm voting forgive either ways but I really hope the best for 'John' and Mikoto. Both of them looks really tired. I wish I could just hug them.

God I just cannot wait for the voice drama to drop aswell, hes one of the characters that im deeply invested in their story!

I absolutely love how this song showed that the alter isn’t actually evil and was only trying to protect Mikoto. DID is so misrepresented in media so it’s good to see something like this take a step in the right direction. Edit: I’m not saying it’s strictly good representation, yes there is problems with it but it is going in a more realistic and sympathetic direction than what it usually is in media

The frustration displayed by the both of them is so lit. Mikoto feels confused and in distraught while Orekoto is feeling kinda guilty for hurting the people around him and Mikoto as well despite having good intentions. The song and va is so nice too holy shit

考察とか出来ないけど純粋に1審と2審でこちらの心を揺らごうとさせてくるキャラクター性とか世界観とかが本当に大好きだミルグラム

二審絡み始めた新参者だけど、一審で「赦さない」判決してくれた人たちありがとう。おかげでミルグラムに沼れたよ。めっちゃいい曲で何度も再生してる

So about Mikoto’s motive. I’ve seen a lot of people here say that he probably killed someone because he was stressed and lashes out. Or that John killed a bunch of people who annoyed him (which I highly doubt, but I explained that in another comment). So I wanna talk about a theory for why he killed someone which hasn’t been bought up here that often. It’s kinda hard to explain it here but here’s what I think happened. Mikoto was being stalked by someone, as MeMe has alot of motifs of cameras and being watched, and double has alot of eye motifs. I believe this was likely for sxual reasons as there’s lots of fanservice imagery in MeMe, especially when compared to other characters which have none of that imagery (especially Yuno) so why would Mikoto have both that sort of imagery if it’s not important in some way? I think something happened for Mikoto to realise this and possibly due to prexisting trauma he was particularly affected by this. Possibly to the point he felt like something like this could never happen again and attempted to hunt down the stalker and kill them. That’d explain why he had a baseball bat in a scene that looks premeditated. I’m not entirely sure on this but it could also be that he accidentally killed innocent people (or maybe not so innocent, as he killed a gang member) in a quest to find the true stalker. I believe this is what happened to lead Mikoto to kill, but he was so shocked and traumatised by the whole sequence of events that John took over, inheriting all of Mikoto’s memories of what he did and attempting to shift the blame onto himself. Because he’d never want Mikoto to get hurt for his actions, so he started portraying himself as an evil monster that poor innocent Mikoto has to deal with. Again this is just a theory but I feel like it’s interesting to bring up here as I definitely think he has a much more complex motive than “I just did it because I was stressed”. I feel like I might’ve not given the full context of this theory so I’d recommend checking out the original theory that was made for this which is a comment on the trailer video for double. And I also made a big theory on this on tumblr which you may find interesting.

2:27 「ごめんなさい」で最後に映ってるのジョンの方だと思ってたんだけど、電車の外が明るいからミコトだって気づいた。なんとなくその後もう一回それを意識して見たんだけど、2番の「全部背負うから」 1:24 の後のシーンで、電車の外が明るいときと暗いときがある。向かい合って座ってたし、その後ミコトが乗っている車両だけ血まみれになってたから、多分目の前でやったんだと思うけど、曲の最後のシーンも含めて、ミコトにジョンは見えてないのかな？同じ車両にいるのは二人の境目が曖昧になってきたとか？他にも、一番最初の「おはよう」 0:17 が、文字は逆だけど色的にはミコトのセリフっぽいし…ジョンに話しかけてる？ 2:11 でジョンが人を殴ってないのに、向こうから血と人が飛んでくるのもおかしいし、これ多分 1:58 と同じシーンだと思うんだけど、ミコト映ってないし、ミコトがやったと考えたら辻褄が合うといえば合う気がする…。 2:16 でついてなかった血が、最後急に二人の右手についてるのも謎だし…。MeMeの方でも「飲み込んだマイナスのイメージが僕を抱き締めてくれたの」とか、ミコト気づいてる？って歌詞が色々あるし、考えれば考えるほど、本当にミコトは何もしていないのかとか、ジョンがミコトを庇っているのかもしれないとかを考えて、マジで悶えてる。ただの的外れな勘違いであってほしい…

The animation quality has improved so incredibly much over time. DEFINITELY one of the best songs and MVs of this project so far.

I doubt mikoto's alter will continue killing if he's voted innocent. The song shows the guilt and regret the alter has for making mikoto's life accidentally worse

一審のmv改めて見てきたけど、人格の切り替えとも言えるタイミングで、ルーティン的にミコトが頭を叩いてるんだよな。これが演出でなく、人格の切り替えを意図的に起こして、ストレスを発散しようとしてるともとれるわな。

One thing interesting to note is that at first glance it appears the broken mannequins are supposed to represent Mikoto’s victims. But if you think about there’s no blood on Mikoto or his bat, so he probably didn’t kill them.

I’m thinking maybe Mikoto was an office slave who was so overworked that he barely had any time for himself and his dreams which is why in MV1 he comes home and immediately goes to sleep and in this MV he’s more stressed. It’s most likely that Orekoto unleashed the stress that Mikoto faces in his work environment and is the one that is helping Mikoto survive by unleashing that stress and Orekoto thinks that they’re saving Mikoto because that’s his purpose.

I just love how we can now clearly see the differences between Mikoto and John in this mv than the MeMe mv, aswell as new physical attributes; Mikoto now has dark under eyes and a few of white hair strands that were not in his first Trial ( probably from the intense stress :'( ) In 0:46 while mikoto sits, the seats beside him are empty and the shine in his eyes are at the top. But at 0:52 where John sits, bodies of mannequins and blood surround him and the shine of his eyes are at the bottom And in 1:12 , we see that mikoto is in a panicked state, gripping his hair anxiously. When John sits apart from Mikoto and sees him, he immediately grabs the bat and is ready to strike anyone as a way to protect Mikoto

update: HIGHLY recommend watching the voice drama for mikoto, where es states that we're only judging mikoto, not "john," his criminal alter. after this, i'm actually leaning innocent on this vote! wow, what an amazing song. i think this points more strongly towards mikoto having dissociative amnesia and pleading a sort of insanity defense...i still find him quite guilty after this, though

Explaining my own interpretation here as someone with a psychology special interest: It's basically accepted as canon that Mikoto is a system (Dissociative Identity Disorder). They seem to have memory barriers between the two of them, but Mikoto doesn't seem to be aware of the other's existence. Meanwhile, the alter (who I will be lovingly referring to as Nikoto) does seem to know about the host's existence. They also have different ways of referring to themselves. In systems, usually different terms can be used to best describe an alter. Earlier, I described Mikoto as the host. The host is the alter who fronts most often, and takes care of most of the body's tasks. After some thought, I think Nikoto would fit best as a protector. The role is exactly what it sounds like- it's an alter who was created for the soul purpose to protect the other(s). Nikoto is seen to be willing to do anything to protect the both of them, including killing. It seems he wholeheartedly believes that he's helping and protecting them by killing. Him apologizing can be taken as a lot of things- but I think it's likely along the lines of, "I'm sorry, but I have to." Or, less likely, "I'm sorry, I didn't know it was wrong" At the very least, Nikoto seems aware after the first trial that his actions have had a negative effect on Mikoto, but he still believes he has to do what he's been doing. I personally think they're innocent, they just need loads of therapy 🙏

When Mikoto says “All I did was dream, and that’s what you found guilty?” perhaps he’s expressing that he merely had thoughts of retaliating or taking out his anger/stress on others, but didn’t realise he actually acted on them since Orekoto was the one who did it. That’s why he seems confused as to why he was found guilty as he ‘didn’t do anything’.

Listened to the Audio Drama and...!!! Even if Jonh (Orekoto) admits to be the murderer, how much he wants to protect and save Mikoto makes me think he could be lying to save him Milgram can recognize them as two different people, so why is it Jonh who is immune to milgram rules? I mean we don't know if Mikoto is immune to it too as he never tried to harm Es but I think this could potentially be a hint At 0:12 it's Mikoto's boss sending him messages notifying him late at night about work due to the morning, Mikoto worked for an abusive company and it kept penting up his stress, on undercover we can see him sleeping on his desk with energy drinks (probably working until late) and on MeMe he falls asleep as soon as he gets home, he was sleep deprived, getting told he wasn't doing enough by his shitty boss and just laughing it all off I think Mikoto could have exploded one day, and killed someone by accident, he blocked this memory due to trauma/was already dissociating (he is not lying about not knowing what is happening) and Jonh is trying to take the blame so Mikoto can be saved (forgiven), otherwise Jonh is saying the truth, and he really ended up releasing pent up stress at someone random when he couldn't really simulate what was even happening, and now feels guilty for getting Mikoto on this situation (But idk I'm not feeling this "someone random" talk) But his way of dismissing his victims make me think he's trying to seem bad on purpose so we put all blame on him and not on Mikoto I think neither of them are bad people (the villain was capitalism all along) so I'm voting to forgive, I can see how much Jonh loves Mikoto Edit: I was rereading his 1st Trial interrogation and it's interesting to think at that point Mikoto still thought this was all a reality show, so him saying he liked the company he worked at, or that he went with a bike to work is more what he wishes was true and as a employee what he should say to make the company look good than his current reality, we see him at a train here and him in front of a train station(?) in MeMe, there's no way this overworked guy could have time to ride a bike to work

Ngl, the first destroyed mannequin in this mv kind of seem like it jumped on Mikoto. What if he got entangled to a gang activity (first mv, the next to train killing and the aesthetic) and his double is literally protecting him from all the harsh realities that come with it?

Also, considering the phone at the start of the video says "chief", Mikoto could be connected to the department where Kazui works. So, the theory of everybody being connected is starting to piece together.

Mikoto's CD drama is possibly the biggest lore dump CDs in this trial. In order to stop Mikoto from reaching his breaking point-- aka suicide due to his stress, John (Mikoto's Alter) temporarily take control of Mikoto's body in order to stop the poor man's thoughts from popping up. Although John's murder motive were still a bit foggy (simply being 'annoyed' of the bypassers), Mikoto's alter is definitely a form of the body's self defense mechanism; even John himself claimed he purposely took control of Mikoto to protect and prevent Mikoto's mentality from breaking due to the negativities overflowing in his head. Even John, his alter/disease, couldn't bare to see Mikoto suffer. I think Mikoto's 'murder' (and his verdict based off it) should be discussed in the future Trial 3. For now, by just simply keeping Mikoto from stressing out, his alter confirms to NO LONGER take control of Mikoto. If we can't get rid of the Alter, we can't point out Mikoto for his crimes yet.

Okay so so far this is the things ive found from this mv 1. At first the lyrics said "i've got you, leave it to me" i believe this is orekoto (the agressive alter who shows up in mikoto's first voice drama), and from here i conclude that orekoto is the one who "take the blame?" Or did the dirty thing for mikoto. But orekoto himself doesnt like this and still did it for mikoto since he realize he's the double (not the real/main personality) 2. the one entering the train from the start of the mv is his alter (orekoto, since the previous lyrics said "leave it to me". Idk bout who's calling him tho, but that cant be his mother since he threw his phone. So i assume? That was 'dirty' work call that he got 3. the lyrics at first before he enters the train said "me the other newly born you" this support my theory above about how orekoto realize thats he's a double who's job is to do the 'dirty' things for mikoto. "You cant get rid of me now" meanings that mikoto cant undo him (orekoto) since mikoto shifting all the blame to orekoto and forgeting all his crime is the reason why orekoto is born. Or maybe orekoto is part of his real self that he separate from himself since he doesnt want to remember his doing 4. Now, going to the inside of the train, look at the windows, when its mikoto, the window color is white. But when its orekoto its black. But here, i notice the scene where he killed someone, the bg has a flash (kinda like a police sirine?) And the expression on his face is not expressive. And i assume that the one did the killing is is third alter (the one that cover for mikoto) So now we have 3 persona Mikoto: the one who said he did nothing wrong (host( Orekoto: agressive alter who prob is made to take all the blame for mikoto's crime? And the third one, which is here for the purpose of saving mikoto 5. Now back to the train, when he first enter the train the scene and lyrics implied that mikoto is 'dreaming' meaning that he's not in control of his body and currently sleeping inside his mind while orekoto took control. And then it switch to orekoto with the lyrics implying how orekoto 'save' him with the manequen (dead body) surrounding him. Now after that scene, we were shown the kill scene (before the orekoto scene) but here the one in control is the third alter (expressionless). 6. At minute one-ish, when the third alter is killing someone, notice how the light on the train he's on(black bg), with the one infront of him is different(white bg). And theres a train door seperating the two place, here, the third alter is looking at the other place and said how itll be good if 'mikoto' praise him(third alter) as his savior. The one with the white bg is where mikoto is (dreaming/sleeping) while the alter is in action. This connect to the mirror scene in MeMe where mikoto notice that he's actually trapped in his mind and its his alter who's taking control at that moment. 7. On 1:36 mikoto(white bg) wake up and said 'i dont even know why im here'. Same as in MeMe, when the other alter is taking over, mikoto seems to be sleeping/dreaming and just thought of it (denial) as a bad dream 8. At the last part of the convo, the one with the supporting vocal is mikoto while the other one is his alter, so ig his alter doesnt want to be born in the first place, but he cant choose bcs its mikoto himself who made him born to protect himself. The alter even said "im sorry". Or maybe it was mikoto himself saying sorry to himself(his alter) or feeling guilty for what he did(his crime) 9. Small details i found outside his mv, so in his first voice drama, when orekoto shows up, he easily got beaten by kotoko and kotoko even said that he just attack harshly just like an amature. But after the first trial result, when kotoko attacked him, jackalope said that mikoto manage to hold against kotoko attacks. But here, he is "deffending" himself. He didnt even attack her first, and after that figjt eith kotoko, he didnt rage out or did some harsh things like beating up other prisoner or ruined things up which is wierd bcs when we first saw 'orekoto', he was very agressive and not strong. But here he manage to fight back/deffend himself against kotoko and act calm about it ever since. This making me sure of the three personality even more, plus his 2nd trial art shows 3 diff emotion. The first ilustration(with the door in the art) has 2 emotion. Scared(mikoto) and angry(orekoto). And now in his other ilustration, he looks rather expressionless, and mush more like unbothered?, I cant pictured mikoto doing that face tbh hence i theorize that its his third alter Sorry for the long ass theory and analysis, well this is me and my friend theory after finding some details on the mv. the actual details of this song is so crazy cause as a music producer i really REALLY like this song. im bad at identifying specific genres so can anyone tell what genre this is? anyways with the song details, the verses sound like boss battle music. and boss battles r usually stressful to play through, cause theyre so hard, right? thats like mikoto’s situation. his job is hard to get through, causing him stress. i also love how they managed to keep the “calm” instrumental in the chorus from the trailer and make it blend with a intense instrumental. i like the use of the drums, bass, and guitar. the hihats in that one part is super good. the synth choice is great as well. i also really and i mean REALLY like the lil sound before the chorus. the piano use is EXTREMELY good too. its like double is the kind of song that can make you cry and vibe at the same time. i love these kind of songs. DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE LYRICS. the lyrics are actually so meaningful and they can be so painful too. “hey, i just wanted to save you- so why did it come to this?” AAAAYGHHHHHGG 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭” and also “if only i were never born, if only” STOPPP 😭😭😭😭 what is with john saying the most HURTFUL words ever…. also at the start the piano keys are going down, kind of representing mikoto’s mental health degrading due to his stress the bpm of this song is 140 and its also in the a major key :D i love double so much, esp music and lyric wise.

From what it seems, the ‘real’ self is the one full of remorse, the ‘duplicate’ is the identity he had created to protect himself. The question of “So why are you crying,” is being asked by his double, who is only capable of seeing all else as ‘dolls’ (people not of any significance). Miko-Two (double) wishes to be acknowledged as something more than a ‘scoundrel’, the one who was able to preserve Mikoto from his insanity. He resents us for demonizing the both of us.
