The military half spin knife throwing technique is very power and combat ready. In this video, I give a brief tutorial. #knifethrowing #militaryhalfspin
What I find crazy about military throws is that you don't have to throw it hard for it to sink in good because the half spin is whats actually providing a lot of the power.
This is by far my favorite type of throw. What ive found to be helpful in half spins is also using my index finger on the back of the knife. Ive also noticed if you throw it to hard, you risk it not completing the half spin. Its all about finding your rhythm and ultimately takes time. Took me almost a year to really get the hang of it. Patience is key. One of my favorite hobbies though. Thanks for the video!
You covered a lot of good tips in this video. Excellent job. As a knife thrower myself, I carry a few knives on me at all times. I have even custom made a few knives for throwing. All live edge knives. Mostly spring steel, but built for how I throw, with easily concealed sheaths, so if and when I need to I am confident I will deploy it correctly. You only have one shot, so it’s got to count. I also train to deploy my next knife immediately after my throw. Whether a charge or a retreat. Fast movements but like you mentioned body is committed.
My friend, you've scored another winning video! Your opinions are very well reasoned and very articulately expressed. You are truly a great example of what RU-vid content can be. Keep up the good work! Also, I give up all the blame for my recent purchases to you! Completely due to your videos, I now own 2 pairs of brass knuckles, 1 pair plastic knuckles, 2 large saps and 1 small pocket sap! What are we going to play with next?
Great video. I just tried to throw again after quite a while and it's like I forgot everything lol. I never was a pro but got it down at least enough to stick it more than not. Not this time lol. I think your tips helped, I guess we'll see!
This was the first way I learned to throw but I’ve since gone to full rotational throwing. I throw rotational like I throw an axe and I’ve yet to find a way that feels as powerful to me especially since the blade is in line with the rotation. That being said I’m not as athletic or skilled as you so I’m sure you’re right.
Great video. Question I would have is how best do you prevent bending the tips of your knives? Throwing with the blade horizontal is going to increase drag while moving through the air, but also the momentum of the handle has to be stopped by the weak-axis of the blade. I've been throwing, forcefully, for years, and always tried to keep the blade from rotating; so that the blade is vertical when leaving the hand, and try to have it vertical on contact with the target. Due to the energy in my throw, I find if the blade is not vertical on impact that even stronger, quality blades will bend with time.
I've been throwing half spin with machetes and Bowies and daggers and even bo-shuriken with great power and success compared to rotational and no spin which I have a more difficult time with. I'm able to do a hammer grip no spin but only from about 5 to 6 ft away. I keep trying your technique but I'm just not able to do it. My other issue is that all my throwing is pretty solid at around 8 ft I struggle outside of that range
The only good reason to throw a knife is to distract and delay a melee assailant while you close distance with another weapon. Same as what shuriken and throwing darts were intended and used for. It's never going to have enough energy to do serious damage unless you hit a lucky spot, it's just meant to make an assailant go 'WTF‽ I've been stabbed‽' before you're on 'em for the follow-up.
I’ve been buying some Russian Kizlyar fixed blade combat knives and they are definitely full tang, built well, and razor sharp! Should we tape our wrist so as not to fling it that it rotates till we get muscle memory?
Trial and error will teach you not to do that. I wouldn’t tape your wrist because you will learn instinctively afterwhile not to. When it comes to know spend throwing the entire arm can be a nuisance. The arm just has to be an extension of the bodies torque in that kind of throwing. After enough error your brain will begin to train you in the right direction
So what you are doing is more like the motion of throwing a punch than slinging right? I'we been doing a lot of no spin knife throwing and been hitting pretty good. But the throws are kind of week that way. And like you my interest in knife throwing is more the combative interest. Thanks for all your great Videos. Eveey time I see one of your Videos I always think that if we where neighbors, we would become best friends because we seem to have all the same i interests and also a similar attitude.
@@411Outdoors thanks for your reply. Yeah it also sounded like it hit with a lot of force in your Video. And with some Training/experience one should be able to Tell where on the blade to hold it at different throwing distances right. Best wishes from Germany. And keep the great Videos comming. Christopher.
I totaly love the military half spin. I started throwing that way after watching your Video and the Power the knife Hits with is sooooo much higher! Thanks for a great Video!!!!
I’m actually using a sweet little budget blade in this video. It’s the grand way fixed blade knife. It is so inexpensive and great for throwing. Go to Amazon and type Grandway fixed blade knife
The very budget friendly but useful Grandway Fixed Blade Knife on Amazon. It’s 13 dollars and throw perfect. Gonna get several. I did a review couple weeks back
In my younger days age 9-20ish. I used to throw throwing stars all time. I have it down to hit targets up to 50 yards or more. Then they just "disappeared" and couldn't find them.
@@411Outdoors ... Yeah mine was like cold Steel. Big thick and deadly. But this was the 80s & 90s. Bought them at a gun show like place. From a vender.
I am very new at throwing; it looks like the knife does a full rotation. I am having a tough time getting the knife to the target, 10 feet away on just half of a rotation.
A friend of mine recently gave me a set of CS throwers to add to my knife collection. I had no throwers in the collection and didn't know how to throw them...that was before finding your channel, now I can stick em good! Btw....that Grand Way knife you're throwing is one of the first fixed blades I bought when I started collecting last year. It never crossed my mind that I could throw it! 😂 Good job! Love your channel!
I've personally found that instinctive no spin and military half spin are an easy transition after practice. I use no spin up to about 6 to 9 feet, depending on the knife, then transition to half spin.
Great video there. I was wondering what knife you use here? For me while I use normal throwers that are handleless Essentially sculpted steel darts which are the most durable ofc, but tactical knives like this throw real nice, the glock knife worked like a charm.
This is a very budget fixed blade from Grandway. It throws really nice. I love throwing combat blades because I love how hard they hit haha. This knife is very inexpensive but it’s fun to throw.
Hey man I really appreciate the info you put out. This is kinda weird but I was going through a really stressful time a few weeks ago and I’d put your videos on and it was like sitting around with a friend talking about stuff I like. It really helped me at the time and I want to thank for that.
I love your videos I also follow you on Tik-Tok love this video in particular cuz I've been debating whether or not I want to learn the military half spin I've got full rotational down I can throw a full spin half spin a little bit of no spin but my distance is very short on that
@@411Outdoors thanks! I’d like to get one for my dad and I. He was in the army in the 80’s and isn’t really one for throwing, but this looks like one that will do us both some good. ⭐️
I have small pointy throwing knives, not sharp ones. But thanks to this video I finally learned how to throw them accurately. I threw one and hit my sister dead in her left eye. She's a cyclops now, but it's totally worth it just for the accuracy
