Thank you kindly Bob! Yes man I'll definitely be uploading more videos about this bike. In fact I'm preparing for a full rebuild and the entire process will be documented. I'll be posting updated links in the video description above as I include new videos. Feel free to check back in or subscribe to tag along. Have a great day buddy! -Ryan
Thank you so much! Did you make a video on your bike? I'd love to see how you did it Amo! Thanks for watching and thank you for taking the time to comment!
Thanks big brother! Build one unfortunately yourself! You wo t regret it and once it's done you can always sell it. A lot of civie guys like the authentic military touch that only guys like us can bring to the table!
I friggin' love these mad max builds. In the 80's 90's when i served, the Marine Corps had Kawasaki klr250's as "courier" bikes. (Way before the big 650 diesel KLRs,) They were mostly stock with all their overweight, underpowered, under suspended glory. As a dirtbike, they, how should we say this politely; sucked. But the mission wasn't to win races. It was to get there. That amazing rattle can paint job is military authentic. Don't you worry about it. Whatever works and makes it keep going no matter what is what should be on there. Anything that takes away from reliability and toughness is for a different purpose. Cool ride, dude.
Thanks so much my brother!! By the way I bought Cerakote equipment and I'm going to the Cerakote course. I'll be redoing it better in the near future! Thanks for the comment! You rock!
I commend you for all the work you put into the big DR. One of my favorite bikes. I have a'17 650 and wouldn't trade it for anything. By the way, don't change out the front forks. Put a set of Plex Valves from FFRC into them. Makes your rod forks more like a modern cartridge fork. Don't even have to remove the forks. Look them up. Thanks for the video.
Get some catalyzed Bedliner and go with that look. It is rugged, durable, flexible and totally protects the metal. I fully intend on doing that someday. You can get pretty much any color you want or mix it up and you don’t have to be a pro to put it on.
@@landrecce I Am looking into getting a off road set up to use for recon/ bug out type fun. I personally dont know much about bikes but I do know about being out in the woods for long periods of time so Bikes make a ton of sense. did you ever get around to upgrading like you mentioned in the video?
@@ninsam6913 Roger brother! We're the exact same animal! Actually no as I was using the garage for a third gen Firebird restoration. The bike is good as it is, so the priority to upgrade isn't high. It deserves my full attention and some money so I'll be getting to it when necessary. This bike is absolutely excellent for your purposes but you may wish you consider its little brother the DRZ if you're primary use is in the bush.
It looks good, I'm planning to do something along similar lines, maybe matte black. You might benefit from reading on the pros and cons of various carbs. Consensus seems to be TM42 isn't such a great improvement. I'm very happy with the TM40 pumper. As to heaviness, don't try Tenere or Africa Twin...
I would really appreciate a tutorial of your molle tank harness setup. It's the one diy mod I am dying to learn, would really be useful to make the ugly acerbis tank look badass. Your bike is amazing, I hope you never sell it 😂
Fond of those well thought out from others experiences but lack experience type preppers. Such as myself. Best advice hate to quote philosophy experience is the best teacher but get out and put on some miles put your platform to the test before shtf or other wise more combat vets unfriendlies are gonna see right through you and try take yours.
Yeah dude no doubt! I've found people to ride in the bush with and that's made all of the difference! I'm sure you'll be fine my friend. A lot of people are going to help each other and anybody that acts selfishly will only end up shot. I'm positive that the apocalypse isn't going to be as terrible as we've been taught. It all depends on perspective and life direction. You seem really cool so I'm sure you're going to be fine my friend!
Yeah it was brother! That was really observant of you! I had bought a Chinese dash cam and was going to use the higher quality forward camera on the rear to make a digital rear view mirror. The forward facing cam was to be used to collect ride footage or to use as evidence in case of an accident. You're right though man it's probably something I should still incorporate but I can't cheap out on it. The Amazon cameras were total garbage. I literally threw them in the trash. Thanks for reaching out man!
Hey Lucas! Sorry I missed your previous buddy! It was just Krylon Camouflage "ultra flat" olive green rattler can. You might want to consider the Rustoleum camo series too. For a WW2 colour consider Skillcraft eco-sure industrial enamel paint in flat olive drab (34088, A-A-2787A Type 1). You'll want something better wherever gas might hit such as on the tank. A good quality clear coat should do the trick. Of course none of this is as good as hiring a body shop painter! Good luck man!

Yeah man this was just a budget build and we used rattle cans in the army. That said, you're right, auto paint is better. Ironically, recently I've been looking at "Spray Max" for some electronics that I can't bake in Cerakote. It's got a hardener in the can and it can be made to any automotive shade. I still have to do my research on it, as I'm after something that won't scratch off.
