I finally got a video showing how to put this system together. I watched three other videos on this subject and all the guy's did was bullshit what they did in the Military. I now know how to put this bag together. Thank you.

I have used mine for many years, bought three for my grandkids, and just gave mine to my sister so I get to buy a new one. I have used it in the winter in the Colorado Mountains under the stars at 5 degrees with several inches of snow and was very warm...until I got out. One of my grandkids used it during a rainstorm, again under the stars, and stayed perfectly dry. Do take the time to understand how to assemble and use the bag!

A few months ago I found the bivy at my local goodwill for about $15. I just went back today and got the green bag for $6. I didn't even know they worked together untill I started researching. Maybe one day I'll find the black one too!

The Bivy is the gem of the system. I bought a used one and pair it with everything from bag liners in the hot, humid summer nights, wool blankets, and nested Carinthia military bags as it gets colder. No snap in bags, but it still works well with any combination of bags or blankets. Great, succinct review Dave!

5 years after being published this video still rocks! I have used this system all over the world, in extreme places and weather and I still love it. The only thing I added was my poncho liner "woobee". If you don't have one of these and you expect to be sleeping in extreme conditions, it is worth every penny to get one, and in February of 2022, you will pay $700 for this set.

Tennier Industries (the company who makes them) srlls them for about $300-350. Never overpay for this. It is a great system, but so many places overcharge for it. I recently found the bivy and patrol bags with the smaller stuff sack for $18. Great condition also. I already had the large stuff sack, so I just need the intermediate cold weather bag. The local surplus store usually has it dor $50-70. I also have a poncho liner and a civilian version of the Therm-o-rest sleeping pad that fits inside. It is the ugly orange color, but works well inside the bivy.

Great video , I’m about to pull the trigger on this and found an XL version that’s longer and slightly wider, it says it’s from Tennier industries- but have you heard about them making an Xl version? Just want to make sure.. cheers and have a great year!

For those of us who have had to deal with sub-zero temperatures this type of bed roll system has been used for ages and ages. It was common to take an extreme cold sleeping bag, stuff it with a mountain bag and wrap it up with a poncho. Good for whatever Mother Nature throws at you and I've been using this bed roll for the last 40 yrs. Both bags are feathers and down and wash up very easy. I would never stuff these in a bag, but roll them up lengthwise to surround the outside of a pack. Was able to replace the poncho with the new bivy I found at a garage sale for 5 bucks last spring. Just an oldster giving out a tip or two, it may work for you.....

I roved Europe lugging a two-man tent that I only used occasionally, although when I did it was really valuable. I wish I had this system instead. For really cold conditions, in addition to the patrol and immediate bags, I use a tight-fitting down bag I got at a yard sale for $1. (All it needed was cleaning up.) When it gets cold enough for that down bag, there are none of the moisture issues that trouble down, and that down compresses down incredibly well.

I think it's warmer than the British 3 bag system. For Arctic sleeping a large bag fitting over the summer and fall bars would work to say 20 F. Me? I have a Western Mountaineering Megalite down 3 season 20 F. bag and an LL Bean -20 F. winter bag. Wearing extra clothing including down pants and light down jacket are good with either bag for another 15 F.lower temps. Remember, a double wall tent is goo for at least another 10 F. (with adequate ventilation, of course) TIP-> zip up your GTX shell and put it over the foot of yer bag for more warmth and to keep fros from the tent walls from melting into the foot of yer bag.. YOUR MATTRESS MUST BE ADEQUATE FOR THE TEMPERATURES. R3.5 FOR 3 SEASON, R5.8+ FOR WINTER. Learn what the R ratings mean for YOU. Everyone is different.

Great demo on the MSS. This will be overkilling construction for the average outdoor adventurer. But it can serve as a model for someone who wants to us less rugged construction and almost cut the weight of the total MSS in half. You can also add a Ninja.suite for a first layer. for summer skivvies and for winter poly pro or merino long sleeve Tee and long bottoms (in black to be a Ninja. Best sleeping system ever. I have been using the lightweight version that I put together myself. My first contact and use of the system goes back to the 1970 when Eddy Bauer sporting goods made a one pound down liner to go inside their down sleeping bags. Over time I added a one pound Bivy from REI to enclose what is now called the MSS. The MSS works best with the sleeping pad inside the Bivy. There are so many ways to create your own variations.

I bought mine nearly brand new. The guy I bought mine from on eBay sold it to me for $127 but he said he looked every where for the compression bag and couldn't find it so he refunded me $10. He looked every where but inn the box. It was in the box that he shipped it in to me. I offered the $10 back. He refused but thanked me for letting him know. I've bought a zipper closure fleece liner and a liner that's like a bed sheet material (Ozark Trail) for my MMSS. I figure that would keep me even warmer inside my set up. And I bought a nylon facemask with just the eye holes. So I can keep the bag dry. And I have a camp pillow from Ozark Trail as well. I'm trying to talk my lady into buying an MMSS as well. I bought a waterproof dry bag to put mine in as well so it stays try. They say also if you sleep in say a dry set of thermals with wool socks and some gloves you can survive to -50*F. I do appreciate the length measurement. I hadn't thought about measuring my bag until tonight. But it's in my vehicle (35F outside) I didn't want to go out to get it just to measure bag. I'm 6'5, which is about 77 inches. I was looking for measurements of bag earlier and couldn't find any. Definitely the added bonus to your video for us. Thank you very much...

I bought same system however I think it have been stored wrong (compressed so that the fibres are wrecked) - IS way colder than my old haglofs - and other bags - HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT Tried the green outerbag in summer - would have been better of with a poncho liner :-O

I slept with this whole system and a sleeping mat in a -13f snowstorm, with a pitched tarp to keep the snow off. It was cold, but I was comfortable enough to sleep. This bag is huge and Heavy though, not ideal for backpacking

Good system .But I prefer the Danish Special forces bags with the US Bivy or a stock Carinthia

Couldn’t find this for as cheap as y’all, ended up forking over about $300 for it but after using the digital camo version in the army it’s worth every penny

One thing not mentioned is that this system is heavy and takes up a ton of space in your backpack. It’s a bomb-proof system, don’t get me wrong, but it definitely has drawbacks compared to ultralight systems. Just food for thought.

I am in one of these bags as I watch this! Two nights ago, our temperature plunged to below zero with daytime highs if only about 10. Stayed nice and toasty inside!

Bought a complete system for $150 at Allied Surplus in Phoenix. Inspected each component for wear. Each piece was in VERY good condition given that it was surplus. Snaps, zippers, draw cords all good to go! As the video says, this is an amazing system. It IS heavy with all components - not something you're taking on a thru-hike!

I love this system, but being 6'1", it drive me nuts b/c they made it too short. I cannot extend my legs unless my upper torso is outside of the bag. Finding the long version is very hard and expensive to obtain.

I've been using this system since 1988? Never let me down. It is a bit heavier to pack, but I still get a chuckle when I hear ultra-lite packers teeth chattering all night long. So, I guess its worth it.
