thing is they don't break. you just service them. the biggest issue with them in the military was they don't get used... they sit there until all of a sudden they're needed and something breaks. but I was always operating, and I never had any issues with my HEMTT. these things are especially built well... maybe except the high pressure fuel pump.
This truck will only have a 166gal. tank max. and be able to go a max. of 300 miles before needing a complete refill. Semi's take on more fuel at a truck stop than this this does.
My father and I bought a 2001 Volkswagen Polo for 500 euros in almost perfect condition (cleaning the interior and replacing some consumables). My story is about on par with the military all-terrain vehicle for 18K. :)
@@fl4ff976 AI: according to the manual, the replacement of this part is not a 10 level task, please annotate the issue on Form 5988, contact your UMO, and inform them of this issue, which will require depot level maintenance.
Dude it’s not gonna cost that much in fuel they wouldn’t make things that waste fuel 😂😂😂😂 it’s gonna cost him as much to fuel that up as it cost to fuel a semi truck
Thing about that is the premise of mad max is that theres a shortage on all resources. So why is everyone using up so much gas, and how has it lasted this long?
@@schnoz2372Mad Max is only like… 10 years into the apocalypse. The first one is basically within the first few years. Plus, in Fury Road it’s established that they have a refinery so new gas is being made. As for why *everyone* has so much? Idk, just movie bs.

I remember when I was with crash, fire and rescue and we got three of those stuck in the national forest helping put out wild fires. They are a beast but when it gets stuck boy are you in trouble.
@@Floydian4everr the issue is *if* you get them stuck, they are really stuck. It's hard to do, but in a forest with likely a lot of water making the ground a bit muddy? Probably a lot easier than a hill climb course.
it is not even close to the perfect bug out vehicle, where would you get the gas to run it? cars are dead if the world goes to shit, bc no one is moving oil around anymore, it will be hoarded by militaries, you wont have a vehicle
@@yourfavoritetoy I never said it was “MY” perfect bug out vehicle, I’ve just shared my uncles ideas that’s all, I’d say use a push bike as it barely needs any maintenance
I knew so many guys when I was in the military that did this. If you were single and wanted to go experience life first, then have a family, most of the guys went and did this. I was single all the way into my 30s. I did it, in fact, one of my buddies had a deuce and a half, he converted into an awesome self-contained motorhome. You could go from cab to quarters by just turning around. It looked a lot like those Antarctic Russian machines. My other buddy did the PLS and one of my other friends got a hold of one of the command center trailers and converted it. His was so cool because the PLS could drop it and he could take the rig to go do whatever and it had enough room on the back of it to have his little fiat

I fell in love with the Oshkosh truck, when it featured in the "fast and furious" movie. The shape was just mind numbingly fabulous. All thanks to the F&F franchise for featuring the truck, or else I would have never known about it.
The 6x6 was tested for military use but ultimately not approved for mass production. Probably due to the smaller wheel base causing issues under heavy load or something. Good eye.
@@dingusumadre Thank you very much! I was as confused as heck! :) I searched for 6-wheel HEMTT, 3-axle Oshkosh, and other variants, and just found HEMTTs, PLSes, MTVs, MRAPs, and an Oshkosh Striker, a civilian vehicle only superficially similar to the General Dynamics Stryker. There are tons of comments about fuel economy and capacity, but that isn't a HEMTT tank. Maybe it is a PLS tank, I never worked with one of those, I just saw them in Afghanistan. It looks like the bigger variant has a larger fuel capacity somehow.

I don’t understand why people gotta lie 14k is not paying for a build like that the parts cost more than people think I would say 60k plus and even at 60k it would be hard to achieve this.
I was going to say. Aint no way that truck alone is under 14 k. My 1/2 ton was 34k and a trailer would easily be another 8 - 14 k... that don't add up.
Beautiful and practical. You just need to fill the 100 gallon tank to get an economical 4 mpg. The army has a fuel truck for every 5 of these in the field.
