I'm 55 now, and I was 13 when I first listened to this album and this song. and it was this song, and Ian Paice's fantastic drumming in it and on the whole album, that led me to learn to play drums. My idol - the one and only and unique, phenomenal Ian Paice.
I have noticed that every time Jon makes a great solo on his Hammond reactors tends to think it's Ritchies guitar. Ritchie would kill to get that sound from his guitar.
Another good one to show that DEEP PURPLE was and is the greatest hard rock band ever !!! Another good one with RAT in the title is ,,RAT BAT BLUE !! Then you got Highway Star , Child In Time , Lazy , Woman From Tokyo , Space Truckin , Burn , Pictures of Home , and , of course Smoke on the water !!!

The riff reminds you of the main riff at the beginning of After Forever by Black Sabbath, which although they are not identical and Geezer Butler is more unleashed than Roger Glover, the guitar, the rhythmic base and the feeling are very similar.

In Rock is usually regarded as the best Deep Purple album. Perfect sound. They have been a major influence on bands like Maiden, saxon and more. After the beatles they were the pioneers of british invasion. Matter of fact the beatles is another issue to study
Um, no. Everybody can have their favorites, and it's fine if this is yours, but the album that is USUALLY regarded as the best (at least by fans), is Made in Japan--probably followed by Machine Head.
Machine Head is usually regarded as the best Deep Purple studio album. Most think the Made in Japan is the best of all them. Don't get me wrong, Deep Purple In Rock is a great album. However it is not what most people regard as their best.
@@RolandTumble23Sorry no. Deep Purple in Rock is far superior. Straight to the point, none of the musical meandering, which whilst Made in Japan is technically and artistically brilliant is overblown and self indulgent.
@@beawsbiz We were discussing "usually regarded". While you _may_ be correct in your assessment (though I personally disagree), you're in the minority in holding that opinion. The *_usual_* position is the one I stated.
That jam reminds me of some Chile peppers jams. Especially Chile peppers live. Also the other gentleman is correct ... those sounds and crazy first solo is all from Jon lords organ. You should consider doing deep purples burn or highway star from the made in japan album live. Both full of insane drumming, organ, and guitar solos
