As a deputy with Shelby County Sheriff office, It was an honor to have worked his funeral. I didn’t get paid and it was my days off but it didn’t matter, he gave me so much beautiful music that I’ve loved since a giddily little girl. I owe him that. He was the most kind and gentle man I had ever met (several times). I’m in one of the videos

Did you notice the two officers who saluted as Elvis went by in the hearse? I've always wondered if that was protocol or if they did that on their own because of their great love and respect for Elvis. I have always suspected the latter was the case but don't know for sure.

@@LM-hb6yn Since they were police, they were accustomed to saluting fellow officers to show respect. I'm sure they did the same for Elvis, just to show respect. Saluting is not normal in civilian processions but is in police and military funerals. So, I'm with you. These officers were showing their respect for someone they cared about.

Wow, I'm shaking and crying watching this. It always chokes me up. I wasn't even born when Elvis died, but I heard his music from my earliest memories and I saw him on TV when I was about 5, and I fell in love. He had a profound impact on my life growing up, both through his music and the kind, humble, generous person he was. I just love him. There will never be another like him.

I was 19 and due to see him for the second time in four days. I was in shock. Cried and cried and felt a piece of myself is missing. I couldn’t function for days. Still hurts to this day, always will. 😢 The most flowers that ever were bought were for his funeral. To make manners worse, a few months later they found out there was an attempt to steal his body from the Mausoleum and to be held for ransom. Thank God the people were caught. Elvis and his Mom were moved to his resting place now at the Meditation Garden at Graceland. I paid my respects there in 2001 😢 Along side him are his parents, Grandma, a plaque for his twin and his Grandson Ben his Mom Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie are across from Elvis 😢 R.I.P. ❤ I believe I will see him again in Heaven ❤

The man touched people of all ages. No other artist whether they sold more records etc...touched something in people the way he did. He was a phenomenon and to this day I can't explain my own love of him. He was a deadly combination of looks, voice, charisma and the ability to connect with people. He knew how to win people over with humility and humor. I was 14 when he died and believe me the world stopped. It was unreal. Vicki

I was 11 yrs old and my dad was stationed at Ft Hood, TX. My mom worked for a lady who had been Elvis's landlord when he was there. I can still remember as plain as day the announcement coming on the radio and me screaming and busting into tears. My mom had been outside and came running to find out what was wrong with me and I told her. She couldn't believe it and called the radio station and when told it was true, she fell apart. She absolutely loved and adored him. My dad came home and brought Elvis's newest record and flowers for my mom. He offered to sell some things so she could fly to Memphis for the funeral but she wouldn't let him. But I can remember her and I crying for days. We watched everything they showed on tv, from the specials to all his movies. She collected everything she could about him. Years later daddy took her to Graceland and Tupalo as a surprise. Now she is up in Heaven and I am hoping she gets to see him all she wants.

I live in South Africa. Elvis was huge here. I was 18 when he died. The tv and press coverage of his death continued for days... His songs were played over the radio for weeks. I also remember every detail of the day 16th August 1977, the city newspaper headlines on the sidewalk read: king of rock and roll has died // Elvis is dood // Elvis dies of a heart attack.. It felt to me that I'd lost a family member. Very nice reaction. Thank you. ❤🇿🇦😢

Bigger than any presidents funeral. Ever. His funeral lasted three days. On tv every minute. Nothing else played. Every white Cadillac in the country was flown, driven or otherwise made it to Memphis for this funeral. Such a huge deal. I don’t think k any of us slept for three days. It was heart wrenching. He was around so long, #1 for so many years that he just became OURS. He was family to us. We loved him. We prayed for him. We forgave him anything. He belonged to US and he always will. You can’t even imagine. You don’t have the context. Tv was new. Radio was king and this guy broke through. Around the WORLD. He changed the world and we adored him.

Elvis, the day after his death received more flowers than anyone else in American history, and he still holds that record. President Jimmy Carter issued a press release to acknowledge the entire country's tragic loss when Elvis died. There were funeral services held all over the world for Elvis for the fans not able to make to Memphis to mourn and every year on the anniversary of his death, millions still gather for an anniversary a candlelight vigil every year. If that doesn't show you how beloved he was and still is, I don't know what else would...

Some of his fan to this day STILL believe that Elvis didn't die , and that he's still alive in hiding somewjhere , which is ridiculous , of course...But they.believe this because they don't want to let him go. Yes, Elvis doubted very much that he would even be remembered.. If he only knew HOW MUCH he is remembered almost 50 years since his passing, he would be amazed . If this world is still here a thousand years from now , or even ten thousand years , all these future generations to come will know about Elvis and there will still be fans of his worldwide...Though Elvis himself IS gone , his memory will remain . His incredible fame is a form of IMMORTALITY ...R.I.P., Elvis . This world will ALWAYS remember you and miss you !

I was stunned and terribly heartbroken the day Elvis died. He will always be a worldwide music legend who shared his many God given blessings with the world. Talent, generosity and kindness. He is an American rags to riches icon who treated all people with respect no matter their ethnicity, religion, or social class. And he loved Jesus. For these reasons and more he is still remembered 70 years after his first record was cut and almost 50 years after his passing. He was an imperfect man whose good deeds far outweighed his personal struggles.

I had hoped my parents would take me to see his concert for my 10th birthday which was coming up so it was a devastating blow that I would never see him perform live and that we had lost such a great talent, one we would never see again. Elvis funeral was televised. The road was lined with mourners. Sad sad day and unbelievable he died so young. man I remember that day and when the news came on the radio. I was 20 and grew up listening and watching Elvis. Every radio station in town played Elvis songs and they had "call ins" from the local people to express their sorrow on the radio. This went on for a few days, all day long until they went off the air at midnight. When I went home that afternoon, my Mama was still crying. My mama LOVED that man, and so do I. I have lots of memories of listening to his records and watching his movies on our 19 inch black and white TV. Whenever a Elvis song came on the radio, my daddy would always say that Elvis was the only Rock and Roll our radio knew how to play. The king, the best, the this or that whatever you want to call him, he just defies description of how he affected people. He surely had the ability to send everyone into a tizzy. And by golly, he's still doing it all these decades later....

My husband and I went to Memphis that weekend to take our daughter shopping for fall clothes and take her to Liberty Land. Sunday before going back to Arkansas we stopped at Graceland. We were walking and looking in the yard when the gates started opening up and a Limo pulled in. 3 days later we were parked in a Sonic and and eating with the radio on; and we heard about Elvis; and just dropped our mouths open and looked at each other. It was similar to when President Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr. & Bobby Kennedy died; for a moment in time the world stood still. Elvis's death was in all of the newspapers, on radio stations and on TV. Elvis's dad, Vernon Presley was kind enough to let thousands of fans inside Graceland to pay their last respects to Elvis. I remember where I was on the day Elvis died; I was in the car with my wife and my 3 year old & 6 month old sons. Pulled the car over into the nearest parking lot & my wife and I both cried. We had grown up on Elvis & he was always so genuine that it felt almost like a family member had died. Still miss him; thank goodness for video & You Tube; and, thank you for your reactions.

I was an Elvis fan from age 6 onward. I was 16 on August 16, 1977 and had just gotten off work. I was waiting for my best friend who was still in the building. I walked up the hill of the small driveway that led to the back of the building. An older woman who ran the snack stand on the golf course was coming back at the end of her shift to unload her vehicle. At the bottom of the driveway, she got out of her vehicle and with a smile and a laugh yelled up to me. I couldn't make out what she'd said and yelled what?. That's when I heard Elvis had died. I'll never forget her laughing about it and never liked her after that. She knew I was an Elvis fan and seemed to think it was funny that he'd died. I would have been furious if I was not in shock, which was quickly followed by intense grief. I had been raised to never cry, especially in front of people, and hadn't cried at all in about eight years. But in that moment I began to cry and could not stop. I made my way to a semi hidden spot and was sobbing uncontrollably by the time my friend found me. I was crying so hard that I couldn't even speak to tell him why. He was beside himself, having never seen me cry before. I cried a lot that day and for many days/weeks afterwards. The news coverage about Elvis seemed to go on for at least a week. Radio stations played Elvis music and television stations played Elvis movies non stop for weeks after his death. Most entertainers get a day, maybe a few days and a very few get maybe a week of coverage. I'd never witnessed anything like it for any other entertainer/singer before or since. The world stopped the day Elvis died.

Yes, I remember where I was the day I heard the news Elvis died. We had just come in the house from a day of shopping for school clothes. I go into my bedroom turn on the radio, and as soon as I turn it on the only Am Rock station (because FM was yet to exist) the DJ says, “Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll is dead.” And, my world fell apart as my heart broke. Every day after school I changed my clothes and sat in front of the stereo playing his records for weeks before I could begin going on with fond memories refilling my heart. I never saw him in person but will see him in Heaven.

Dr Nick was a scapegoat for a lot of people. Pushing the narrative that Elvis was abusing drugs - to cover up for themselves. It has been proven in the years since, that Elvis had very serious health reasons for all the medicine he was prescribed. Also, prescriptions were ordered in advance of long tours (in the states where his doctors had licenses to practice) to be carried on tour - for the entire group of musicians, orchestra and singers. I was in the music business then. That’s how it was done in those days.

@@tammyjackson3113 I blame Elvis for making those bad choices, he did not need all that medication. I also blame Dr. Nick and any other doctor who gave him all that medication. They broke their oath of office. They may have warned Elvis about taking so much or mixing them but in the end they kept giving them to him knowing it wasn’t good for him and the reason they did was because he paid them a lot of money and they were living in the lap of luxury and in the limelight because of who Elvis was, they got to be mini famous just for being part of Elvis group and they didn’t want all that to end so they compromised their principles and integrity to keep their cushy lifestyle that they had become accustomed to and wanted to keep at the expense of Elvis health. And the excuse that Elvis could just get some other doctor to give him the medicine is just that an excuse. Doesn’t matter if someone else would have given him the medicine. Dr. Nick still broke the law and broke his doctors motto to do no harm and all in all threw his integrity and morals out the window by giving Elvis the meds. And again he gave them to Elvis because he wanted to stay in his good graces and on his lucrative payroll and that’s what makes it even worse. It wasn’t love for Elvis that made him give him the meds, it was love of self and what Elvis could do for him and that’s one of many reasons Dr. Nick and others were wrong for giving him meds. As much as I love Elvis and hate to say this, in the end Elvis could have said no, should have said no at any time to the meds. He could have checked himself into the hospital for help to get off the meds but he didn’t. I still love Elvis and his music and generosity to others. He was an imperfect person as we all are but it doesn’t give any of us an excuse or pass in culpability when it comes to breaking the law, using meds we know we shouldn’t have or should not be taking and dying because of it. Elvis is to blame for the choices he made and the awkward position he put his friends and Dr. Nick in by asking and demanding they get/give him those meds which he knew was wrong and illegal. With all that being said, I’m a die hard Elvis fan still to this day. He was a talent on so many levels and like no other. We knew it then and know it now that no other entertainer will ever match Elvis on every level. He had God given talent and I cried the day I heard he had died, it was devastating news. Unless you lived then, I don’t think people quite understand what a world presence Elvis had at a time when tv was still fairly new, there was no internet to send his music and image all over the world and yet he was known all over the world which was a feat especially back then. People don’t realize the world mourning him like a President but more so. Everyone knew that someone truly special and unique, never to be duplicated again and loved had died and that’s why it was so devastating and shocking. It was unbelievable to us that Elvis could be dead but yet he was. It was a blow to everyone no matter your age. I was 9 years old at the time he died but I remember it like yesterday. I was at home when it was announced that Elvis had died and I couldn’t believe it but other media was also reporting he had died and I started crying and my mom was just quiet and still like she couldn’t take the news in. The fact that Elvis is still loved and mourned almost 50 years after his death I think speaks volumes as to his huge impact on people and the music industry during his relatively short life. I can’t think of another entertainer/political figure/celebrity that is still just as loved and still mourned 50 years after their death. He was special! RIP Elvis.🎶❤️

What a lot of BS. He had medicinal problems that were no one fault. Your full of BS. He had sleeping problems his whole life, Glaucoma, Fluid problems because of his heart and his heart. This crap that he fell apart and that people cover their own butt is crap. He had problems and probably was never born to grow old. So tell me: did Marty Robins cause his health problems too? Were Glady and Lisa to blame for their health problems too? Cut the BS. Elvis had health issues that were inherited and part of life , he was just young at 42.

I use to sit in front of my mirror imitating his hip and leg movements. I do remember I loved his music. Thank you for your kind Elvis reactions. Like it alot. Elvis is the one who opened the door for everyone. He is the biggest influence and the biggest impact. Many stars have come and gone, but E1vis is the whole universe and the big bang. Please react to E1vis magic voice by singing BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER 4k, live in Las Vegas 1970. Thank you😊

I was in freer tx. Sitting in my dad’s car because he would let me drive it to the 7-11. It came on the radio and the WORLD stood still. I kid you, not. The world stopped turning for a few moments. I’d never lived in a world without Elvis. It was profound and took years to accept.

When Elvis died, I was 13 and on vacation in Tennessee with my parents. We spent that night at a place named Sieverville, Tennessee in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. God cried via one of the wildest thunderstorms I have ever seen.

On holiday in Memphis in 2001 from the UK we met a retired Police Office who was an outrider in the funeral procession, he said his abiding memory was of some of his hard-bitten fellow Officers, lining the route and saluting the coffin, with tears rolling down their cheeks ...

Fast forward a few years and i came to realize what a one of a kind, legendary figure he was. Im a HUGE Elvis fan now and realize he was a once in a generation talent and influence.

The world's heart stopped beating when Elvis died, and I'm not so sure it ever started beating again....the performance of American Trilogy you just saw still sends chills up and down my spine, the hair stands up on the back of my neck, and the tears still flow. i became am music teacher in part because of ELvis and the Beatles...I'm retired, 68 years old. When I hear this it makes everything else sound like absolute musical bullcrap.
