I've noticed several negative comments in reference to the cultural change of the city. I was born in Durham, but have lived most of my life in North Jersey and Philadelphia, the diversity of culture and opportunity attracted my family years ago. What most of you really mean is that the areas growing diversity of culture's is now moving the area forward and you haven't grown with it. Well embrace it because what you had before was a lack of culture and diversity, not as vibrant nor as progessive as what the area is morphing into. You had dinosaurs in suits running the place before, and ancient thinking citizens following them, moving the city nowhere except backyards. I love what the area has become. You now have a brighter future. Progress like time waits for no one, and its happening in most urban areas all over this country.
Gentrification with NO CONCERN for those PUSHED OUT! You ALL ARE NOT DEALING with POOR/WORKING POOR ,WHO DO ALL REAL WORK, but SMALL PAY! Like C.Bus.,’OH., Detroit, etc...... ! Where can THEY AFFORD TO LIVE ?
Speaking as a person who has lived in Raleigh my entire life and I'm a Gen X. I was perfectly satisfied with Raleigh until all these people moved here brought increased traffic and crime to the area. Now everyone wants to turn this area into something its not. Lets see what happens when the next deep recession hits and jobs dry up we will see who stays and for how long
As 63-year-old native who never even moved out of her neighborhood (southwest downtown Raleigh), it's hell! I stayed here for a reason and it wasn't to see it turn into a Mini - New Yuck City. I look forward to moving now. Stayed too long.
