Nice old machine, I enjoyed the education about the governor. If you persist you will find the carb. or kit on Ebay. I realize this is an old post but do myself work on older engines and equipment. Therefor I mentioned a good source for finding these old equipment parts. Recently I found several parts no longer available made in the 1930s, one such part was new in the box unopened. Thanks for the video.
So I’ve got the same welder , mine to smelled like varnish. It’s a kohler engine but the carb looks the same . Can you tell me where your carb rebuild kit is from , also the screw on the bowl underneath, clock wise more gas counter less ?? . It ran fine for an hour then died now it’s like it’s not getting spark . Also my fuel line runs into a some little box with a spring loaded lever underneath it then to the motor ?? Any help is greatly appreciated
The surging may be from the variance in load the governor is sensing. Hold the governor arm to see if the motor runs steady. While you are welding the governor feels full load and the motor sounds good to me. Without load I think the surging may not be carb related. If it is, the throttle shaft will be loose in the brass bushing allowing air to intermittently rush by and lean out the mixture.
Hey buddy, I just bought one of these and the wire I see on yours going up under the carburetor and that is blue then turns black at the connection. Could possibly tell or show me where it’s going to? Mine is broke and just laying there.
This is very late, but I just stumbled across this video. I have a Roughneck 1e and had the same problem when I got mine. My manual showed the components needed to rebuild the static exciter board. About $30 in parts.... New blank proto board, capacitors, diodes, etc. Fixed my issue right away and am back welding.
Ebay has the carb. Guy in New York has a couple of them left for $200. Little spendy but I haven't found any anywhere else. Just put my order in for one of them. Has a few left. I have a carb that has been giving me problems. I rebuilt it and it will only run with the choke on. Know it has to do with the seat. Tired of tinkering with it. So if you would like to buy mine and use it for parts your welcome to. Has a new carb kit and everything works but seat. Let me know. www.ebay.com/itm/MILLER-BLUE-STAR-2-E-WELDER-ROUGH-NECK-TECUMSEH-OH140-OH160-LMH-CARBURETOR-CASE-/251685409298?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a999e9212
