"Drusilla must you make noise?" 😂😂 I absolutely loved your video. I didn't think you could get anymore hat crazy, but somehow you've managed! Watching you talk so passionately about hats is weirdly heart warming and very enjoyable
I 60 years old & I didn’t even know I liked hats until I found your Channel, now I can’t get enough!!! You are absolutely darling! I’m loving listening to you and learning from you👒TY
I love the little scone conversation at the end. I love your videos! I’d love to see you make a plait hat. I regret not buying a vintage 40s red straw chimney hat on eBay and now I need to learn to make it haha
At 23:40 now and I considered doing that Windrush talk (they offered it virtually as well) but my department only offered to pay tuition for technique classes/demos. So glad to hear your synopsis/thoughts!
Hello from New Zealand. I'm a latecomer to your posts, & absolutely loving the content. I thought your red striped hat was perfection with your red dress, especially the way your hair was softly tucked in. Those confections of artistic freedom, especially the flower garden hat. Just wonderful to see
Literally laughed out loud at the random cat noises and the "Must you make noise?" followed by silence and then more noises while you talked again. Too funny!
Hello April! Yes, Drusilla can be such a nightmare at times - but I love her so much regardless of all the noise she makes! She makes me laugh a lot ❤️ 🐈⬛
Ilona it was such a wonderful thing to experience London Hat Week with you! Thanks for the class reviews, fun periodical suggestions and sweet interviews. I look forward to seeing your straw plaited hat with velvet bows. Keep up the great and gorgeous work! Much love from the Midwest US 💖
Hello! And thank you! I am so glad you enjoyed my video 😊 I don't know when I'll have the time to do the velvet bows! 🎀 I'm super busy filming the next set of videos!
Hello Donna, Thank you so much for watching my videos! ❤️ I don't organize LHW, and am in no way affiliated with them. I just attend the event like every normal milliner 😊 The best advice I can give you, is to come down to London with a few millinery friends so that you can save money on accommodation by group booking an AirB&B. If you can't make it down South, they do do online events 🎉
Hello Siobhan! I am so pleased I have introduced you to the wonderful world of millinery! Be sure to join my monthly (ish) livestreams to chat about all things hats 👒
Commiserating at the 20:00 -ish point about working with wet straw and the way it dries the hands out! I keep a tube of hand cream in my studio because of that issue! I've had other milliners recommend something called "Corn-Huskers Lotion" (US product), but I prefer a hemp hand cream from The Body Shop that is less greasy/oily. But I'm sure everyone has their own preference of moisurizer and the point is, everyone working with straw for millinery will need it! 😆
I am currently switching between Aesop and Neutrogena hand creams depending on if I'm working in the office or in my kitchen! I also like to use nail oil on my finger tips - especially after sewing with thimbles all day. Nail oil is just jojoba oil mixed with a bit of Vitamin C oil - it's very nourishing!
I'm just going to comment several times as I go through the video I suppose, as I'm at the 13:30 point now! 😀 I did the streamed version of that "Veils 3 Ways" class--really enjoyed it and she did a quick tour of the John Boyd Hats workplace,, plus gave some background about him which was all fascinating. For the demo portions, I wished they'd had better camera angles/lighting, but regardless appreciated her commentary/technique modeling.
I am working on remaking that feather hat right now! Hopefully it will be finished in the next couple of weeks, and I can show it in my next livestream 😊
@@ByIlonaMillinery I love feathers. It is getting harder and harder to find good qualityfeathers. I have been using Goose Biots all along. They give a hat some moving drama. They too are getting hard to find
Just an idea, but can you possibly offer a Patreon subscription for those of us who want to support artists as yourself on a more basic level? I'm not a hat maker, just an admirer who wants to contribute, not just take.
Hello, I have looked into this, but unfortunately Patreon take such a big cut that it would be unfair to you to offer lower tiers. I have a ko-fi account: ko-fi.com/byilonamillinery This can be used for ad-hoc or monthly tips to help support me and my channel. Thank you so much for your kind words - I really appreciate it 😊👒
Love that faux feather headdress around the 7:10 mark! Those printed fabric “feathers” are sold in bunches for floral arrangements here in the US, and I have used them on theatrical millinery where real feathers might be in danger of getting crushed backstage.
I loved everything….this video was so much fun to watch. Your last dress and hat you made is gorgeous….I am a seamstress and love all of this…thank you.
Hello Alma! I am so glad you find my videos interesting! 😊 The dress making ones are being planned and filmed now🪡 - so hopefully they will be out soon enough! I'm really excited about those! 😀
Hi Sylvia, while it is impossible to imitate real feathers, there are alternatives which I talk about in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TscxFlcIsyo.html
Thank you for your video, Ilona. It’s the closest I’ve been to LHW and it’s seems you had a very busy week and a great time there with a dancing included! I love it! xx
Thank you so much for sharing your experience of London Hat Week, so enjoyed watching it . I was delighted to see the third hat from the Culter Trust Luton as I recently found a fabulous vintage boater hat in a charity shop, the straw is exactly the same, I've been searching for its origin, and it's definitely not modern. I love finding vintage hats. I shall look up the CTL it might tell me something about this straw. Thanks again for a very interesting and informative video.
Hello Gerri! I am so glad you enjoyed this video 😊 you might also want to have a look at the Stockport hat museum, although I am not sure if they have an online archive. The V&A museum has online collections with a lot of hats available to view also 😃
Hi!!! Thank you for another great video 🤩 Especially for the feedback about the pop-up shop, I found it a bit dry 😅 I wanted to check if it was worth to exhibit there…not sure! I’m in love with your channel!!! I was hoping to spot you during the Hat week 🤷🏻♀️ hopefully next year 😍
Hello! Thank you so much 😊I spent most of the week trying to not get into people's way, but maybe next year I'll post more about where I am planning to be in advance so people can find me 😃
