Diamonds everywhere! Million carat diamonds! Dan and Chelle walk out onto the black sand shores at Jökulsárlón onto Diamond Beach, which has it's name for very obvious reasons! There are diamonds everywhere! Big ones, small ones, perfectly clear ones, blue ones! Okay, so they're not really diamonds, but you could've fooled us! Just up from the beach is a massive glacier that feeds into Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and out into the ocean, where chunks of ice come crashing back to shore and made clear and smooth by the constant crashing of waves. Dan and Chelle admire the ice for awhile, spot some seals swimming up river, and then head across the street to Nailed It Fish and Chips for a little, warm snack! They head over to view the lagoon and watch chucks of ice flowing down the river and out into open waters, and also explore the epic glacier Fjallsarlon! Afterwards they head back south towards Vik, but stop to try and find one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland! They hit the trail and pass numerous waterfalls as they make their way back to the epic waterfall Svartifoss! The jagged black rocks surrounding the serene waterfall are definitely a sight to see! They head back to their Airbnb, grabbing some noodles from Wok on Vik on the way.
After we filmed this video, we received what would be the first of many texts, voice calls and video calls over the next two days. We found out Chelle's dad had possibly suffered from a mild stroke and may need to be hospitalized. Not knowing the severity of the situation, we ultimately decided we needed to get home as soon as possible. The next morning we hit the road back to Reykjavik, but couldn't get a flight home until the next day. We were grateful to at least have been able to move our flight up to the next day, but were incredibly anxious to get home. As updates continued to come through, we prepared ourselves to have to say our final goodbyes to Chelle's dad. Our focus shifted from not just getting home, but getting home before he passed on. They were the longest, hardest, saddest days we've both experienced in our lives. We are so grateful to have arrived at the hospital around midnight to be with family and say our goodbye and we love you to a truly wonderful man.
