There’s absolutely NO reason you need to be taking Ubers all the time if you live in NYC (or any other extremely populated city with reliable transportation). She could save so much money by taking the subway. You’d probably get there faster anyway considering NYC traffic.

Living in Staten Island or Queens if the buses not working you stuck. She live in Manhattan which is different, but not all parts of New York City has access to good transportation.

Try having a business call on a loud subway train. :). There are some companies that reimburse Uber or Lyft rides as well. Or if she’s using it for a business expense she could prob also write it off. 🤔

More weddings I go to, the more I realize it's money spent for others to enjoy the wedding. Just elope and use the wedding budget on a kickass honeymoon or down payment on a house.

I like how Vegas does things. Go through a drive thru. Order a couple of burgers. Do you (bride)? yes! Do you (groom) yes! It's done! LOL! 😂 I know it is not the most romantic thing in the world to do it that way. 😁 It would save a ton of other wise wasted money though for sure. Then be smart and invest that money to make money. BOOM! That would be the smart approach.

One thing she’s doing a good job at is “justifying” her expenses. Just don’t understand having a $25,000 wedding when you have $100,000 in student loan debt.

As someone currently planning a wedding, that's just how much they cost and the post covid wedding boom made it worse. The average cost of a wedding is $30k. You have to pay for: venue, catering (most of the cost is food), entertainment, stationery, flowers, photography, transportation, plus tax and gratuity. Sure you can elope and save that money but not everyone wants a courthouse wedding.

@@kayj9006 I have been married, I know what goes into a wedding. I feel like some of the stuff common to a wedding could be left out or minimized. In fact, the better weddings I've been to are the ones more personal to the couple where they create their own unique experience. Our culture has brainwashed people into believing they need all these things to make a good (successful) wedding celebration and its not true. Also too many marriages ending in divorce for people to be splashing out so much on a wedding. One couple's I attended had a beautiful reception and they split up only a year later.

She is inviting 25 people. Very intimate, with NO friends. So that’s $1000 per guest. Maybe she’s reserving a whole evening plus the guest rooms at Waldorf Astoria or something, with Marco Pierre White as the head chef for their dinner, and Olivia Rodrigo as their wedding singer. Lol idk how much things cost in NYC, but 25 people shouldnt cost that much, even in NYC. My wedding costed similar money, but we had over 10x her guests list (Asian wedding ugh).

Because I feel like there is some sort of price extortion going on where they just take advantage of you because they know that you want to make the day special so they just inflate the prices for everything knowing that you are willing to pay more than what it should cost just to get that special day

I spent less than $300 for my wedding! Had close friends and family come over. My mom and sister cooked for all of us. All of our guests were served steak and Alfredo along with a drink. It was great!! 🙂

I doubt her $25K budged is $1000/person x 25. It’s probably $400 per person max and the rest is her dress, hotel, transport, cake, flowers, etc.

Totally fair point about colleges and which degrees are worth it but the sad reality is that no one is going to hire someone without a college diploma, or very few places will. Even if you learned the skills through other channels, you still need a piece of paper saying you graduated to get hired in the first place, even with a media studies or a film degree.

This doesn't make sense. At $160k your post tax income is around $8400 in NYC. Is she just not paying taxes on the freelance part?

I think an education is a good investment. A lot of employers use it was a minimum requirement for applicants, so without it it would be harder to get a good job.

But it doesn't have to be a 100k education. Go to a junior college and then complete your degree at a state university for a fraction of that cost. I don't have a college degree, and it's rarely been an issue for me. A little harder to get started sure, but then my work spoke for itself.

We don't have to pay for university in Germany only about 100€ in administration fees and transportatiin in your city. The idea of having to take on so much debt in order to get a degree seems so intimidating especially when your only 18.

Good thing about Australia is the student loan from the government dies when you die. Hardly any interest on it and it doesn’t affect credit score. I pay the min it tells me to pay but I will probs not worry about it :’)

I agree with you on the student loan thing. A lot of 18 year olds will take those steep loans without realizing the magnitude of them and they will come and bite them in the ass later on. I wish more education on this would be provided

Graham, if you want to judge people for spending money, remember that she lives in NYC. Assuming she doesn't want to take a bike to get around the city, a monthly pass on the city's public transit is half of what she's spending on Ubers. $2.75 gets you pretty much anywhere in the city one-way.

It's not 1k per person, it's the gown, hair, makeup, photographer, venue, and floral which dont depend on amount. Only rentals, food and venue per person cost changes with size of wedding.

you clearly don’t live in NY. You can’t do Sunday brunch for $55 a plate. My wedding in CT was $150/person for just the venue, food, drinks & tip. Plus, I chose a mid-rate location. But, our average gift per person was $135 so it really doesn’t cost that much.

Omg, weddings are so overrated. I spent $6,000 on my wedding and the majority of that was the rings. Got a cheap cake, had dancing after everyone went and got their own dinner, and spent $230 on an airbnb. Excluding the rings, we spent a total of $1900. Why must our culture pressure us to spend so much?

Idk why you're being trolly @thecarpenterunion. Just wanted to get some nice heirlooms that will last forever and be passed down. Also didn't get a diamond because they are not rare/in limited supply. Its investments for us that will last more than a century, hopefully 🤷‍♀️ .... if the world doesn't end before that lol
