Unless you’re wealthy, have a successful business that brings in reliable income every month, or you have your own stream of income to count on, you can’t afford to “not give a fuck” unless you like being broke and destitute. Bottom line is, if you rely on working for some one else or asking a company for a job, you have to play by corporate America’s rules if you want their pay checks. After I saw this video with you speaking to this young man I decided to cut mine then I doubled my net worth. I had an afro when I was younger, always switched between low-cut & afro. When I got my 1st job at 15, my boss who was an investor & wealthy white man sat me down in the office and told me he wanted to promote me but I needed two be presentable, he recommended I cut my hair. Well I cut my hair, and was promoted the day after my cut to sales. 3 months later I was an assistant manager. A year later I was promoted to store manager. I left that job for another company which had remote work from home, & the boss told me '' I don't care what you look like just get work done.'' My grandmother passed away around that time & I started growing my afro back. Then I finally started my twists which turned to locks. During my locks journey I noticed how much maintenance & difficulty I had to keep my hair healthy, go to sleep comfortably, take showers comfortably, do work in wealthier neighborhoods & esp when I got back into sales temporarily etc. I also noticed a big one, where people would be scared of my hair or me, they would literally look or stare at my hair and not take me seriously esp in business. In my experience an athlete or rapper gets a ''free pass'' w the locks. Independent business owners can as well but it needs to be maintained at all times. I promise people treat me better & take me serious in the business world with low cut hair vs locks. Longer hair ( in African American men ) is perceived as not serious or associated with idk what but gives off negative perspective.

Speaking as a black man working in a legal firm where there's already so few black men among attorneys and legal staff in general, I haven't seen one other black man with an unconventional hairstyle. All of them either are shaved bald or have some sort of short fade, all "boring" styles (which isn't bad). I'm the one I generally see that's most unconventional (and that's only slightly, since I just keep my hair curly but stylized - still "professional"). Of course it also depends on the industry too, but I know a lot of black male IT folks who likewise have the same "safe" hairstyles, though I've come across a couple of black software engineers (generally working remotely, or who are already established in the industry) with braids. To this date I haven't seen any black male in my sphere who's in an executive position or who's a partner at a firm that has an unconventional hairstyle though. It's already hard enough for a black male to reach that level due to gatekeeping, so I couldn't fathom being able to do that unless if the black man actually owned the company.

I don’t see a “millionaire” saying cut his dreds off. I see a black man correctly educating and advising a young man to set a better course in life through perception. One’s monetary worth doesn’t matter when it comes to raising someone up 💪🏾. Also the day is is far gone when being clean cut is standard etiquette. We’re holding onto a lost era. Think about it now it’s bragging having a bespoke suit made, whereas prior to the Industrial Revolution, EVERYONES clothing was custom made (and cheaply at that).

I’ll be honest . I’m just growing my hair out in my 30s and it’s said how much discrimination I’ve dealt with since doing it . People see you as a threat or something on top of your black skin. Promotions , business deals , and opportunities In general I have to sell myself even more now . Honestly thinking about cutting it smh .

I also noticed a big one, where people ( mostly white) would be scared of my hair or me, they would literally look or stare at my hair and not take me seriously esp in business. anddd the fake white quick smirk smile they put up. In my experience an athlete or rapper gets a ''free pass'' w the locks. Independent business owners can as well but it needs to be maintained at all times. I promise people treat me better & take me serious in the business world with low cut hair vs locks. Longer hair ( in African American men ) is perceived as not serious or associated with idk what but gives off negative perspective

He looks so much better with the haircut and looks like he's already winning.. get your money right first, then you can do whatever. But, when your hair looks a mess, no one is going to take you seriously. If he had short, clean dreads, it would've looked more professional.. he also looks a lot happier and content with his life. He was rocking back and forth the first time, but see how he's more relaxed and just looks like he's grown into himself..

It's sad that people think that wearing dreads you don't have to keep them coiffed. Not fix them up not do anything to them is crazy. If they're not coiffed they look terrible. I don't understand why people think that they could just get up and walk out in the street like they just woke up out the bed is if they don't have to do nothing to their hair. This is crazy. Children has no way of knowing what decency is anymore.

Lol, when’s the last time you went to a corporate office and saw a white dude with a mullet, or chest-length hair, or white dreads? Probably never. All races are held to a standard of professional appearance. Black people are no exception. Some dreads styles can be made to look professional. His weren’t. Corporations don’t exist to indulge your personal sense of self-expression. They exist to make money and do business. If you prioritize your hair over doing that, then you ain’t got no business being there, as far as they’re concerned.

@@TheOfficialCBE Yes, that’s how all organizations work. The reason you have a phone, a RU-vid account, and the ability to read, is all because you abide by other people’s rules. And unless you intend on living out in the wilderness on your own, you’ll continue to abide by other people’s rules. The workforce is no different. If you want the privilege of being paid high amounts of money by an employer, then you work with the understanding that you’re not being paid to ‘express yourself’ on their dime. You’re being paid to do a job and conform to their rules.
