Greetings, if this device is not available by November this year, are there any alternatives out there to buy already? I have an event and want to buy a bunch for our group
No, they automatically reduce volume as the devices approach each other until the volume is off. Large centre button is a mute button as well if you don't want a side conversation heard.
Hi DanSolem and thanks for the question, Milo does not require direct vision (line of sight) between devices. We have tested around hills, ridges and so on without major issues, but to be clear, like any communication device, radio propagation is affected and it depends on how much mountain terrain is in between the two users.
I found the range of 600 meters worked as advertised but it was line of site. For example, walking in the neighborhood, 2 houses between my wife and I blocked the signal. However she could round the corner of a block ahead of me and it still worked, i.e. 1 house. Keep in mind that if you have multiple devised the matrix is larger and the range extended. Bought them for cycling and field tested them twice already and very satisfied.
seems like it could be a cool product, but this video does not really tell you how this product is different than any other communication device on the market, if it is. Things like radios, sena or cardo devices... If its a more transferable, durable version of the existing mesh motorcycle communicators that would make sense, so you could use it for multiple activities.
It works on a mesh network so your group of communicators is on a secure closed network. Compared to radios where you agree on a channel and subchannel in advance and then you can still run into other groups that picked the same channel that day. I have Motorola radios and the voice activation does not work as well as a Milo. The Milo is very light and portable. I.e. switch from arm band to handlebar clip in seconds. Much lighter than a radio. Noise cancelling technology is also more advanced than my Motorola radio. Filters out wind and passing cars. Did not filter out a sharp sound like a car horn or siren which when cycling is not a bad thing.
