His mission was instantly clear to me when I heard him say in an interview that he felt music to be a better representation of a country than any politician. Those words resonated in me and made me fall in love with him.

Having listened to Asturias an uncountable number of times, I think what I like so much about his version of it is that it is just so cleanly played - some artists it just kind of blurs all in together, but with him, you can feel him hitting each note of it. Fantastic.

He's honoring repertoire of the past and does not intend to only do old repertoire. He's starting out with songs that influenced him before he introduces new material. You know why he gets attention? Because as a boy he believed in himself, sacrificed a lot, worked very hard, and he's actually talented! He got rejected by many companies before signing to DG but kept at it. Yes there are better guitarists out there but that's life.There are also talented singers that don't get recognition either.
@FordHallam
@FordHallam 12 лет назад
Perhaps you should listen to what he actually said. He didn't call it a flamenco piece at all. What he suggested was that IF any classical piece COULD be called flamenco then it would be Austurias. He then went on the elaborate why he felt that. A perfectly legitimate thing for him to feel and express.

Milos is without a doubt a good player and some may find him great. I thinks he is good, but not exceptionally. What actually surprises me is the effect of the marketing strategy in general. Milos plays at a Master level and does that very well. Also he is capable of reaching millions of people, and that is from the perspective of the result of diverse musical-industrial strategies and his playing and personallity. But he is presented here as the new prince, the saver of the classical guitar as if there was nobody before or nowadays... and that is rubbish.
@MikeLive1285
@MikeLive1285 9 лет назад
I agree, but everyone is hating on him because some label execs decided to throw money at him. I'm glad he's doing well and able to make a career out of it. And let's not forget he's in his twenties, let's give him more time to develop as a musician, he surely has the time and money to do it.

Segovia was marketed !! It's called earning a living as a concert musician....I leave the floor to you. You are up next on stage to show us how to really play classical guitar !! Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Peter Van Schmuck !!
@Deerse
@Deerse 8 лет назад
+Mark Harris yes I heard a mistake at 4:25...but you didn't get the point at all. What I wanted to say is that there are many young classical guitarists ( follow the GFA competition and its winners e.g.) on a grandmaster level beyond this level. Furthermore I see a record industry trying to make money by adding strategies like imagebuilding in combination with the playing qualities of Milos. And furthermore to you: show some respect and think and listen carefully before jelling.

He may to a certain extent dictate his choice of repertoire due to his label and his audience but there is no doubting he is an excellent musician and as a Conservatoire student myself i just find it so refreshing for the instrument to get som recognition and exposure. Also compare his albums in a few years and his music will develop, he is still a relatively fresh graduate. just look how xue fei's repertoire has progressed.

He's a hottie and he can play just fine, thanks very much. Looks do not hurt a career at all. It's a real howl reading all the so-called "critics" on these youtube vids--so many opinions, so little smarts.

I find Milos playing absolutely amazing. He is a skilled guitarist whom has inspired me to start playing again. I love his selection of music. For those of you who feel it necessary to post negative comments, maybe you follow the wise old statement. If you have nothing good to say about someone, then you should say nothing at all. Be kind, your life will be better for it.
@christofinb

I haven’t seen any negative comments, why would people criticise his playing ?
@jgonsmith

because his technique isn't good. look at Segovia or David Russell for a real classical guitar player.
@christofinb
@christofinb 3 года назад
Jonathan why isn’t his technique good ? Give some examples. He has been under David Russell anyway so they come from the same school.
@jgonsmith
@jgonsmith 3 года назад
@@christofinb you can hear that when he returns his right hand fingers to the nail, they're hitting the string and that's just for Romance (the first piece he played). This also applies to the second piece. For instance, see 4:24 his right hand is clunky, and he butchers the end of the first coda at 5:15 because his left hand placement isn't accurate...yet he isn't even playing the piece fast, he's playing much slower than the piece is typically played....See the recording of Asturias (leyenda) by Julian Bream for an example of how it should be played. Another example, see how his left hand bends the string at 13:46 when he is far up on the neck? That's not an artistic effect to change the pitch, that's just bad technique. The string shouldn't bend up, his left hand should be perpendicular to the fret so that it doesn't bend the string.
@christofinb
@christofinb 3 года назад
@@jgonsmith thanks very interesting, ironically I find almost the opposite with him I find him to pedestrian to clinical. To me if I have a criticism of his playing that would be for those reasons ergo that it's not 'authentic' sounding enough, to robotic. His playing doesn't really move me like some other classical players but interestingly enough it's probably not for the reasons you've outlined...? You sound like you know what you're talking about, just interested to know why he would not be respected so much compared to other well known players, to my ear though his technical ability is not so much in question, besides it's not a sport, music is subjective.

Oh and that's where you are wrong again. I do know of Julian Bream and Andres Segovia- they are the greats of classical guitar and I can admit that Milos is not at their level especially Bream's. Bream is a genius. I also know that Milos was a recipient of a Julian Bream prize when he was studying at RAM, and it was given to him by Bream himself. I think that says something. Milos is doing a good job of introducing classical guitar to newcomers in order to create more players to begin with.

Anyone who feels envious and feels the need to judge another musician is someone who knows NOTHING about dedicating ones life to an instrument. I was just about to type "I have found my new hero" but again we read judgement comments. Haters who know nothing more than how to play Power Chords with the worst distortion possible. I have dedicated my life to this instrument and I know just how much it takes to move from beginner Power Chord noise maker to the beautiful sounds that only comes from the string and wood. I would never judge another serious player. Those of us who still love to play know just how much work, isolation, insanity, loneliness it takes, but we push further. We push past all those annoyances because we have to, because we can't stop, because we feel every note. This man feels every note, he wanted this he worked hard to have it and he deserves it. Only an amateur (that's french for village idiot) would sit back and judge, blindly not seeing this mans honesty and brilliance.
@rhiprhip
@rhiprhip 9 лет назад
With no judgement comes no improvement; Milo's teacher giving him advise and correcting him is judgment too. While I do think that there are good and bad judgments, but it does not take a classical musician to judge one other.
@nunocardoso6999

+John It's alright to judge, but for this kind of classic music, it can't be anyone. It MUST be a true musician
@sargijapunk

+Nuno Cardoso Why? There is a lot of human beings who listen to a lot of music without ever playing an instrument. Don't they also have a right to like something or not or to have an opinion? When music is played it is played for any listener to enjoy it or dislike it and yes, even to judge it, it is not something reserved just for other musicians hearing.

I agree with craigalake, the greate players , Segovia, bream, Williams all spent a great deal of there careers playing new pieces commissioned for them which extended the repertoire and reputation of the instrument, romance is the 1st piece I ever learnt when I was 14, 30 years ago, it's simple. He clearly has great technique though but I'd rather hear him play more exciting pieces.

@nebrulla it's not possible to explain why guitars play out of tune in 450 words but you will find an interesting article on the subject here. timberens com essays tuning.htm use a . for the com and slashes in the other spaces to make the link. It's an interesting subject if you care to study it. The human perception of pitch can be quite variable. Almost no instrument plays perfectly in tune yet can sound fine to the ear.
