Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to record, compile, and share this effort. This looks like a fun project.

I homeschool my kids, and we were reading about the ancient tribes’ milpas the other day. I am also using an intense nutritional therapy to combat tick diseases. Those two things made me search for ways to implement for own small milpa farming system. Thanks so much for taking the time to compile this video to show me that even I can do this!!!

I have my seed on the way! I'm curious if you incorporated their no-till recommendations. If so, how did you do it? Great video. Gets me excited to get started!!

I didn't incorporate any of the no-till recommendations. I would have preferred to, but I am limited to access to a drill. Therefore I end up discing to open the ground enough to get seed to soil contact. No-till would be my preference.

Awesome work! I am very interested in starting a small milpa project at the school where I teach science, but we don't have any animals. My plan was to just let the foliage go during the winter and then plant seed the next year.

I just planted my milpa plot for testing. Is there a fall milpa mix?

If not, you could always select a few cool season plants and have them mixed for you.

How much watering did this take? I just ordered my first milpa!

We didn't water it. It grew off of the rain that we received. I'm sure production would have been even higher had we consistently watered it.

Man, the incorporation of the multi-species grazing will keep this ground producing well for decades!

Now the seeds are free with the First Acre Program through Green Cover Seeds. Just donate 50% of harvest. 50lbs or less (you choose size) free seeds.
