I think you are missing the point. He reframes the dark energy of grief and turns it towards something life enriching and productive. It prevents slipping into depression and gives purpose and direction--something to do with it instead of wallowing in it and feeling helpless. Grief is natural and he simply utilizes it and turns it back towards life.

frabulop It’s the same as I was trained at cal state Fullerton in counseling for crisis where at the end of the intervention to introduce the idea of “ you didn’t have a choice in what happened (loss) but you do have a choice in how you are going to honor this person (or other loss). It is beyond just a funeral or restructuring when everyone is still in shock. Something ongoing and related to clients strengths (like growing a plant) or creating a memorial fund in relative field or doing something with life that is honoring the person or thing lost like staying in school or rebuilding a burnt house etc. the specifics don’t matter it’s whatever is important in the clients eyes
